This showed up in my doorstep today. My first set of 1950s persimmons.  According to the Kaplan book they date to 1955.   The Irons could be ‘55-57. But by the looks of the shape of the shafts and grips I’m going to guess they have been together for the past 60+ years. 2-9 for the Colokroms and 1-4 for the 945ws.

Great find! A lovely '50's set up!

I am having no luck with M85 Colokrom's. Bought a set a couple of years ago, great condition but I was perplexed by the very thin shaft entering the ferrule. Examination under a magnifying glass confirmed them as M65's! The seller had mis read the stamp when listing! He was very apologetic and offered to refund but I kept them......I am not getting any younger so senior flex may soon be helpful!

They don't come up often on this side of the pond so I jumped on another set a few months back. This time only 4 of the 8 arrived with the 6,7,8&9 having gone AWOL in transit! One of very few losses or damages I have suffered in transit. Again a brilliant seller who did all he could to resolve but to no avail - they are lost for good. We agreed a partial refund so neither of us lost out by too much (not the sellers fault) and I kept the clubs so I am half way to my dream of owning a set of original M85's!

Enjoy these, they look great!

That's a stunning find, you must be one happy guy.

It's not all about the score.

Thanks for all comments.  I lucked out I was shopping for Colokroms and these just popped up at auction and hadn't really been listed for more than 5 minutes.  I saw the woods and thought what the heck.  They came in much nicer condition than expected.

This probably won’t get as much attention as my post from last night but these were a recent pickup and they seem to be quality.  Irons are fantastic and yeah the woods are laminate but these all seem to have been together since the 60s.  I really like finding sets of irons and woods that appear to have spent more time together than I’ve been alive.

One nice plus is they have True Temper Dynamic Shafts. I’m guesstimating these are circa 1966-1967ish.9767B8F9-A2F2-4DC8-8DA3-FFC411613EF5.jpeg.68d7a6ce458d0f8d14649b3ac782264d.jpeg6E0555DC-949B-4649-A698-C79D545C549C.jpeg.4e6cc7007c95e90ba66ebef6e3ec9963.jpegFFFB2086-BC5E-4BEF-AA78-961D82FEECD5.jpeg.0f85cc8d877fbd9835330487580fcbd4.jpegEA512F76-A160-4EB4-8649-A2D3211079D3.jpeg.ec719f677c421b65aaf8000260d227d5.jpeg520C0425-B8BC-4311-B05A-D918DAF1A7BD.jpeg.5c3da87362298c6a7939efa9700fc2cb.jpeg

It is funny how we apply emotions to inanimate objects but I am completely with you on not wishing to split sets that have spent their life together.

I picked up a set of Mac PT1 irons from 1961 a few years ago. They came with a set of 1967 MT woods with impact weight inserts. They had a great history having started life in the states but spending most of their life in Afrika before landing in the UK and finally coming north to Scotland - bit of a climate change from Afrika!

I always enjoy when clubs come with some history and I couldn't now separate those woods and irons even though they are not a matched set. I am sure they would be none the wiser but even so....

Yep, although the 3 thru 9 iron have really well kept original grips and the 2 iron and both wedges have badly aged Victories.  Not sure if they were purchased separately or not.  Interestingly two of the my sets have sandwedges and both of them it's almost as if the Macgregor stamping on the sole has melted.  Polishing them it was pretty obvious that the sandwedge was made of softer steel than the other irons.

1960’s First flights are solid blades, should be a great set.

Scored big tonight.  FB marketplace ad.  Got a set of tour grind Ram FX Pro Set irons 3-9, a Titleist Scotty mallet putter, a vintage Titleist leather bag, and a random Nike Victory Red S forged 4i.  Also got a set of Top Flite clubs and stand bag.  Got it all for under $50.  Listed the Nike, Rams, and Scotty on the 'bay.

Interesting. I've only the 3i-PW, so I've no SW to compare.

Some of you may remember the 1954-55 Tommy Armour 653s I posted last week.   Well they had a name around the shafts and I did some internet sleuthing and discovered they belonged to a 90 year old man.  His son in law was selling the irons(not in as nice of shape) and after telling him how I intend to use these again he threw in the putter he believed was part of the original set.   It’s a green shafted Tommy Armour IMG Silver Scot and the irons are MacGregor Tourney M75s.  This gentleman’s sandwedge must be long gone but I’m happy to report his woods, irons, and putter  are all back together

IMHO that green pyratone shafted Ironmaster is the holy grail of all Ironmasters and no I do not have an original-- I do have the green shaft remake with the composite shaft---- Those pyratone shafted ones have a unique feel to me

Stu. You are the second person that’s told me that.

I have a few IMGs from the mid 50s to the late 60s. The early 50s ones with the A site line are my favorite.  They seem to be more “bottom heavy” for a lack of better technical terms.

Not sure what year this green shafted on is but it has that heavier head feel that I like in the 50s models I use.  4D375D83-A54D-4D0D-9E0A-C9F6A77E29DF.jpeg.d0dbb48ceb03dbf613db12eddc8a0046.jpeg

Let me be the third. If you want my pyratone Ironmaster, you will have to negotiate with my kids when they settle my estate. There are five or so putters that are above and beyond special, and an Armour with a green shaft is on that list. Part of it is the history, part the shaft, and part that the putter just plain works.

August Golf ( Augie) and myself have been in a conversation over on Macgregor collectors on FB--- He pretty much knows his stuff and he says they were made from 1935 to 1939 but I believe they ran all the way to 41. Yep what little I have used one they have a unique feel. I firmly believe the pre war steel had something to do with the weight and feel.

Out of all the putters I own a PGA brand Ironmaster is like that. For some reason that one putts more solid than any others I own and it is the only one I have with the "A" alignment aide. LOL a few years back Augie told me when he came down he would bring his and I could hold it even putt with it but NO WAY COULD I KEEP IT OR BUY IT FOR ANY PRICE. Back during hurricane Florence when he lived up the road from me we kept in constant contact via phone during the storm. I tongue in cheek offered to bayby sit it because the storm was worse up there than here. No dice nice try Stuey.
