No new acquistions...?

Forgan of Scotland had a Powerpakt model in the early 1960s, three variations shown below, not that I think your clubs are by Forgan.

But Forgan were acquired by Spalding so perhaps they took the Power-Pakt name back to America where they made your clubs as a store-line set?

Interesting stuff Jiggered.  Is it just me or does that first picture look a lot like a 1958 Wilson Staff Dyna-Powered?  An homage perhaps?  The two chrome strips on the face are very similar as is the flag mark on the back, albeit a single rather than double as per Wilson.  Maybe Wilson got it from Forgan?

I think Forgan were already owned by Spalding at this point so more likely the designs were based on a Spalding Power-Dyned or something, which may have been based on a Wilson Dyna-Powered!

The Forgan flag had been in use for a long time, back to their hickory days. Whose came first I don't know.

The Flag Cleek mark originated from James Spence which was acquired by Forgan in 1926. Eventually, Spalding bought Forgan.

That putter looks good to me. I like the flange.

A little bit of reading up on the Net reveals it was the most sought after putter in the hickory playing fraternity during the '90s and '00s. Nowadays I don't know, I'm out of the loop. Randy Jensen, aka 'Hickory Tiger' used one. Both Louisville Golf and Tad Moore make replicas retailing at over $200.

HB stood for Hollow Back. It was the forerunner of the Ironmaster and 8802, apparently.

Can't wait for it to arrive. This one looks like it needs a bit of tidying up.

I had a similar one that was all steel, not sure what the make was. It was a good putter and it went in one of the sets that I sold.

Middle of summer I got these early 90’s I believe Bridgestone J’s Professional Weapons 4-PW in the 2nd Swing discount barrel for $60.00. I couldn’t leave em behind. They are pretty much excellent condition, not even that much bag chatter on em, with Dynamic Gold S300 shafts. I figured the shafts alone had to be worth close to that price. I had/have no idea what I’m gonna do with them other than maybe pass them on to someone who would truly enjoy them. Has playable Golf Pride velvets grips so I’ve enjoyed swinging a few of these. PW feels great. I’ve read some say these where one of the softest feeling forged irons but just felt like a normal quality forged iron in my hands.

I had the aluminum face/aluminum shafted persimmon MT driver but stumbled on the fairway woods with aluminum shafts. Feel foolish and honestly didn’t realize till I took these pictures that they weren’t persimmon so turns out I didn’t fill out the set like I thought but nevertheless aluminum shafted and faced I guess. I have no idea what the GB1W is but it’s a pretty decent sized tallish head.

I think you have scored with the George Bayer. Circa 1958 and prized as a deep face driver.

Yours has had a slightly ham fisted refinish and what looks like possible water damage to the face but essentially solid and with the correct original shaft.

Nice find!

Yep, that's a '58 George Bayer. It looks like it was played hard and suffered toe damage and perhaps some heal-side damage, although that might be a shadow.

In my opinion, the Bayer Head is the best design of all the Macgregor deep-faced drivers. And of all the Bayers, the '58 is the most beautiful.

That is a great club, but it should go through a competent refinish to fix it. The epoxy fill on the toe damage should be replaced with a persimmon patch at the very least. You would have to strip it to see if any of the original stamp is left or if someone carved that in free-hand. If the original stamp is there, that would be nice, but it may not be salvageable. In that case I'd probably fill in what's there and leave the top smooth. The other issue is that line coming off the head. Is that a scratch or a crack? Even if it is a crack, I'd try to epoxy it and try to save the head.

That is a lucky find, if you put some work into that it could be a great player.

Thanks guys, this is all news to me. Honestly I really never looked at it much. Just suspected it was an old McGregor and for $4 bucks why not. Im embarrassed to say I really don’t know anything about George Bayer. Did really like the deep face. Maybe I’ll take some more close up pictures. I got my playing set version, kinda, of Nicklaus 86 Masters clubs together and will get those pictures up soon also.

More 80’s McGregor repop persimmons and my prize set that really didn’t cost very much. As much as I’d love to have one of the numbered set of these irons with his grinds and of course the holy grail driver and 3 wood non of this has big value so can play em and never think twice. A set of reproduction Eye-O-Matics that I never knew existed until i saw them. Another EBay purchase and cheaper than I got the MT’s for. Got them to go along with my Muirfield 20th irons to fill out my 86 Masters Nicklaus set. Pretty sure it’s as close as I’ll ever get to a real 945. They have regular flex shafts in em and initially I was worried about that but it turns out I hit them great so that lighter shaft fits me well. Fly much higher with fantastic ball flight than my stiff shafted Muirfield persimmons and seem to be more forgiving also. Other than shaft flex and weight in back of these they compare pretty directly to the Muirfields side by side. The 5 wood is an absolute treat to hit. After playing it I realize why I gravitate towards hybrids nowadays. I’ve posted pics of the Muirfield irons before but I’ve modified them since then. Basically I set them up to the same lie and length specs of my 2022 PXG 0211’s that are fitted. Lofts are set to standard but close to 3 degrees flatter than old standard and lengthened as much as 1 inch in longer irons. 49 degree pw so about identical distance as my 50 degree PXG A wedge. One more thing, I don’t know if this is a forged iron thing or maybe a 80s MacGregor shaft thing but when struck well you can really feel these shafts kick. Especially short irons and they are stiff flex. I picked up a Response 615 for next to nothing to fill out the set and is actually a decent putter once you get over the size of it. Did a bunch of work stripping it and sanding it smooth then I ruined it with a crappie attempt at a paint job so gonna strip it back down before I show a picture of it painted. I dedicated 3 weeks straight in July to playing and practicing with only this set and had a blast! Had a best of 87 after 3 rounds on a 6600 yard par 72 course with 2 doubles and a triple so had plenty of good holes and not a horrible round for me all considered. Looking forward to doing that again next year. If courses are up and running here maybe I’ll play the set Masters weekend. Oh yeah I also picked up a 693 3 wood reproduction from late 70 or early 80’s for this set but haven’t played it yet. In good shape but it’s really short. Think somebody may have cut the shaft down and it may be too much to extend it so I need to find a club smith for a reshaft. Think our local expert here just retired and closed shop. 3F586754-178B-4823-847A-25BFC3033386.jpeg.671de2f75b8eeff5cf0a12a1c5b31054.jpeg0FF4EE25-9ED7-40AA-9907-E312BBFAF650.jpeg.3ab0e63eeffaf10d84e02587de2d60a5.jpeg9FFC44B8-A22B-4DA4-AC3B-23E4BF196866.jpeg.a64d44eb4f91448f8fe8a8703cfc7489.jpeg88CFDED4-8F17-4F40-9705-2065912ADB33.jpeg.a65a4cf87f09f702337ee591a2ddb1e3.jpeg5E37B073-115D-4E3F-9402-A0348A3B7D9A.jpeg.2ecc7214c5867a32e154e805a8625d37.jpeg63C3723B-499B-4C55-A0B8-A4FDEBF2444C.jpeg.153544d732296cd507675f4418202572.jpeg

Snagged these Haig Model 66 lams off eBay as players to go with the ‘74 blades.  $45 shipped was a fair price for me.

**Any help on year of release would be appreciated!!**

That's a great "to play" setup. I love bagging my Mac 20ths, and was really happy earlier this year when I snagged a 2i head to add to the 3i~PW I already had. I usually finish the set off with a VIP SW that I think was a 90's reissue, possibly for the Japanese market.

Thanks, I didn’t know what to think of the sand wedge at first until I actually played it. Rounded leading edge and either low bounce or it just hides it well but actually works really good. Great out of rough and wet or heavier sand. These irons will make damn near anyone throw pro style divot’s.
