Please don’t get me wrong, those grips might be as pretty as the other end of the club! I know they were a premium manufacturer but was Spalding a more expensive club in comparison in these days? Their grip game looks wise was off the charts attractive. These and I’ve seen other sets this vintage with black and red like the 60s set a few posts back.

I picked up a backup to my backup set of ‘63-64 TFs and they had been regripped previously so I thought they’d be perfect candidates for some NOS Victory grips

I think these were custom.  They have a very unique serial number too.

IMO Spalding was putting out a higher quality club than Wilson and MacGregor during the 50s and 60s.
I’m sure many will disagree but their leather grips were a class of their own and their forgings were incredible and sturdy.  Rare to see them flake like many of the Wilsons did and no Colokrom or FC4000 gimmicks(which I love) like MacGregor.

 

Their persimmons we’re on the same level as MacGregor IMO as well.

Another find from two or three weeks ago. Pair of Spaulding Jack Palmer "Persimmonite" clubs 1 and 4..$2 ea, I know they're from around 1969 almost new condition. Not much known about persimmonite so far. Anyone know what it's made from?

Hogan fifty three, Sand iron, Ping Zing. Final pieces to fill out a vintage set. Pretty good condition, exceptable face wear and chrome is good to ok. Zing is wonderfully tarnished. Oxidation makes it looked more scarred in a few spots than it actually is. For whatever reason most of my vintage sets are brand and period consistent way more than sets I ever actually played with. Was gonna wait to pick up a Special SI I will inevitably stumble upon but saw the fifty three and had to have it. Was a bit of an impulse buy and turns out it’s not a match for the set like I thought, medallion is different.

Maybe a Hogan guy can let me know. Doe’s have same AMF shaft label like the sand iron so it is at least 84 or older but they are different shafts. The sand iron is 1 inch shorter, different step pattern and even gets smaller under grip. Perhaps a woman’s or senior??

Together with their playing partners, 1976 stuff plus a Zebra putter I picked up in a thrift store just in case. In the process of regripping irons and putter as we speak. These get me a 4th vintage forged and persimmon set ready to play. I have late 50’s, 70’s, and 2 80’s covered now. In need of a late 60’s birth set. I’m Wilson lacking so…sure I’ll get sidetracked on the way

I've just bought some 1959 Dyna-Powered irons (2 - 9).

I have an old Slazenger wedge (forged, Dyna-Powered inspired design) that I can pair with them, so all is good.

They are a bit rough around the edges but still a lot better a club than I am a player.

Looking forward to picking them up when I am in Australia in April.  Might even game them on the spot.

Persimmonite wasn't wood. It was some type of plastic composite.

Yea just not sure what they used. Picked these two Spaulding Tee Flight  clubs for a buck ea at a yard sale last month not sure what these a made of either. Doesn't feel like the persimmonite stuff. Can't find a shred of info about them.

Had a full set of them brand new.  They’re some form of plastic and won’t perform like metal or wood clubs.

I've got something similar, they're some sort of polymer and I find them great for winter play when you don't want to get your wooden woods wet in the cold damp grass.

They play decent too, the same size as old woods and similar distances.

I just picked up 2-pw of the Vibration Matched Tour Grinds.   Lofts seems a bit wonky but they are in pretty good shape overall.

I've been thinking about scoring one of these for quite a while.  Finally took the plunge over the weekend, this arrived today.  Maxfli TM-2 putter.  🙂

 

Pics are from the ebay auction.  Having the putter now in hand, the third pic of the face is gives it the appearance of more wear than there is.  I think it's just a reflection of the room lighting.

I save that type of grip removal job for a time when my wife isn't at home, because the language involved is of the variety that I remember my dad using whenever he tried to put up wallpaper. 

 

But for those irons it will be worth it!

Looks like I’m gonna let a pro handle the ferrules.  Tried the hot water remedy on a few of the clubs, won’t budge.  PGA Tour Superstore’s gonna get to try now.  
 

Did the grips with Lexol conditioner, much softer and stickier.  Colors didn’t fully come back from sun exposure.  Still real happy with them.

Picked this up recently for a little more than a Jackson. Turns out to be a 1/2-3/4 toe hang, awesome as I haven't tried that orientation yet. Better still, there's no bag chatter, no wear to the FF GPride grip, or chaffng to the Apollo shaft. I believe it's never been played, and is from the late 80's or early 90's.

At 472grams, and 3 degrees of loft(yes, I wrote that on there), I'm loving it!

I wish I had better history on them.  They came to me with a set of woods on eBay last year.   The seller had no idea.  But someone over on the Persimmon group said they looked to be custom orders.  I have a standard set of these with the red/black grips and compared the heights club to club and the heads aren't loose or pulled out any as they were the exact same lengths as all my other classic Spaldings.

This is my birth year of 1957 set, hence the purchase.  As I mentioned to you, I wish I’d have grabbed those matching model 76 woods you had for sale.  That would have made a real looker set to play in a yet to be found Spalding tour bag.  Those woods were every bit as nice.

Those irons I THINK came with a different set of woods.  Those grips on the model 76s were matched up a different set of irons I had.
