? if you play a 43 1/2" driver how long should your 3 wood be ????

title say's it all. I'm having hard time with toe hits on the 3 wood and play it at 42 1/2"

and have no issue's at all with a driver that plays 43 1/2" and d2 sw

 

 

any answer's would be helpful

Well, based on your profile, you're playing a driver that appears to have been cut down by 2-2.5 inches, but X flex. Why not start cutting down you 3W shaft a half inch at a time. If after the first cut you like the way you hit it, all set. If not, try another half inch. You will be dropping by 3 swing weight points for every half inch. But if you are hitting the 3W the way you want, who cares.

Depending on how well you can recover swingweight, or how much you care at all about SW...it could easily be under 42. That being said, depending on yourbspecs, hitting a close to normal length 3 wood might be just fine. I play a 43" driver and my 3 wood is like...41" I believe. Makes a lot more sense. If most stock drivers are 45, stock 3 woods are 43...2" difference

right now the sw on the 3 wood is d5 so I have room to cut it down and I have access to a hot melt gun,
but I am more worried about the lie angle being to flat after the cut.

If the fairway has already been cut down, there may be some swing weight issues if weight hasn't been replaced. Also, I don't know how this works, but cutting down the fairway might result in a flatter lie angle, which might not be what you need if you are fighting toe hits.

Your 3w is the proper length. Make sure you're not reaching a bit when addressing the ball. I do this sometimes when I'm trying to crank it good. If I do, I hit toe all day.

I would say 42" might be a bit better increment but despite that I would also say it's most likely a weight issue (static or SW). However, you can try choking up 1/2" to 1" to check.
