Why not add Canada to the Ryder Cup?

As a Canadian I have a lot of brotherly love for the US. I vacation there and shop there from time to time. As two countries we seem to get along so well. With the USA struggling maybe opening up the competition to Canada would be a nice twist to turn the tide.

 

Now I understand Canada isn't loaded with golfing talent but I think Graham Dalaet would have been a good addition.

Maybe get rid of the presidents cup and have some kind of world alignment. Maybe Europe and Australia vs the rest of the world

Great idea. But.......I am Canadian and there is no chance in heck that US would ever let Canada join in. For most of US they don't even like Canada. Some think we only have a few paved roads. Agree Deleat would have been good but there was no helping Tom Watson.

Canada plays against US in presidents cup.

I'd like to see a more global event, the Ryder Cup is great but so many players are excluded. The presidents cup is dumb and the Internationals don't care and neither do their own fans.

If they did a regional thing, teaming Canada and the US would make sense

Give the US Canada, South America and the Pacific Rim...Europe can have Austalia New Zealand and South Africa

Not as players. They would get out of the way and concede. We don't need a synchronized Ryder Cup with twirling legs. But maybe as coach. Canadians have no problem with that. Their curlers go to China and elsewhere to coach national teams, even against Canadians. Kevin Martin is just bald and boring and articulate enough to lead USA 2016. Besides, curlers deal with strategy and placement on literally every stone. I don't doubt they'd be astute with team pairings.

Trying to recreate other events to be like it or tweak the RC is just silly.
Not everyone everywhere needs to have a competition just cause some other players do.

Some great footballers never get to play in the World Cup due to their country of origin/choice. Them the breaks.

Also with the exception of Weir from 2000-2003, no Canadian in the modern era of the Ryder Cup would actually be an upgrade on whoever the Capt's picks were.

Adding Canada to the US Ryder Cup team would have the same effect as adding Mexico, which incidentally would make as much sense. Graham DeLaet was 37th on the Fed Ex Points list. When you take out all the non-US players that still puts him outside the top 20 for the Ryder Cup. He would have had to have been a Captain's pick. Not that he is worse than those that were picked, but there are still better choices.

Not many really....

Weir in the early 2000's would have been a good choice, though his best season was 2003 and there was no RC this year. Dalaet is a streaky player who'd probably be a good team play guy due to his ballstriking.

But it's not like it would affect the outcome. If you did it , it's just so in case some golf equivalent of Andrew Wiggins comes along you can lay claim to him

Legit? Well we're all lovely chaps and endearing ladies :)

 

But in golfing terms. George Knudson likely wouldn't have been out of place on the '67 or '69 Ryder Cup teams. Otherwise, really just Weir maybe in '04 off the back of his fantastic '03 season and decent '04 season.

 

But really when it comes to legendary Canadian team golf competitors, no one. I repeat NO ONE has ever topped the feat of Ray Stewart, Dave Barr, and Rick Gibson in the 1994 Dunhill Cup: No doobt aboot it!
