Make up Outing for Southern Dunes

So Devin really wants us to reschedule another group outing at Southern Dunes after the flooding debacle. I really want us to get back down there but timing wise things kinda suck for another outing down there this year.

 

The late overseed means the course will return to decent playable condition mid to late November and that puts us up against Thanksgiving. After that we run into Xmas and holiday travel plans etc plus rising costs to play.

 

Here is what I am thinking. plan it way in advance to do a massive late spring early summer event when rates start dropping again. I really enjoyed the Ryder Cup Style outing at Desert Forest this summer. If we plan it this far in advance I think it would be awesome to do 36 holes, one day individual match play and then 4 ball the next or 36 in the same day or maybe even a Troon shoot out play SD one day and another Troon course the next. The ultimate bragging rights outing. This would give us time to try to get some cool prizes from vendors etc. and get a large turnout.

 

Now this is just brainstorming at this point and would be a ton of work to organize especially with Troon's policy on securing the $$$ but. If we start it now I think between mine, Marks, and Blakes history setting these things up we can get it done.

 

I know it all boils down to pricing but I have some connections at Troon and might be able to work something out pricewise in trade for some free goodwill publicity on WRX and social media etc.

 

Feel free to add thoughts on what to do and lets try to make this an awesome event.

This is one of the reasons I was thinking pushing it out to May, we can set a date early to allow people to plan for it. Looking at the Troon Card rate schedule for 2015 they have a rate drop 04/13 and again 05/15 this would bring us back into the window where it is affordable for pretty much everyone vs trying to do it in winter when it would be $100+ or rush it prior to holidays when guys already have plans

Personally I voted 36 at southern dunes and 1 day mostly out of laziness as setting up an event at two courses over two days would be a huge PITA,

I did not leave an option for Matchplay or just show up and play based on the responses so far the match play was a big hit.

If you object to the match play idea let me know and I can add it to the poll.

In for both. 36 hole one day ryder cup format and the league. Only day I can do 36 is sunday. Would be ok with 1 day 36 hole event at a place with 2 courses as well. Just don't want to have to pack up then go to another course and unpack again. It takes a lot of misc. Preparation to play as awful as I started on Sunday.

Devin from SD emailed me today,

I ran the 36 hole one day event by him we will see what he says, I thought about it today and it might not be something they are willing to do. If we have 25-30 guys we would essentially be taking up a large section of their tee sheet for the entire day so it may be cost prohibitive to us and them.

As an alternate we can do something like 18 holes with 9 hole individual match play then 9 hole as 4 ball. I will keep you all posted as I get more info.

huge PITA and prob not worth it.

Look at it this way NSMGA has 160 or so members, a big turnout is 80 or so players. We simply do not have enough guys to make it worthwhile and it is a ton of time and effort to arrange all the events

Right before I moved out here I was in a 9 hole traveling league. We would all meet at the designated course, play 9 and guy that shot farthest below his avg picked next week's track. Everyone threw in 10 beans a week and we had an outing at the end of the season. Was pretty simple really. And it doesn't mean I am volunteering to be the commish either.
