I think it’s a hognose:

Sorry...forgot to follow up. Yes, it is a hognose. Michigan DNR got back with me and explained the different snakes, etc. Pretty interesting.

I hit the 3 wood from 255 over weekend on Par 5 to 10 feet with a shot that never left the flag. Old 3 wood was solid, but never that good.

Pierce Lake is really fun, one of my favorites in southeast Michigan. I'm also really fond of Leslie Park in Ann Arbor. I work down the road and play there often. I hear Stonebridge is nice but haven't played it myself.

Then there is the semi-private UofM course (McKenzie) and Radrick Farms (Pete Dye). Definitely not cheap (at least to my standards), but I think they are gettable even if you arent a UofM student/alum/staff member.

Washtenaw and Leslie Park would be top 2 public I would play in A2. I live there and just played Leslie a week ago and it was in really nice shape. Love the layout.

Stonebridge is fine, but really just an average Art Hills course that winds through a subdivision. Pace of play has been a big problem there, in my experience (basically always on weekends). In my opinion, it’s because of how they color code the tees. If I remember right, the Blues are farthest back, at somewhere near 7000 yards. The whites are next, and it’s about 6600 from there. Then there’s gold or something next, and that’s closer to 6100, which is plenty long for most average players. Of course, a ton of people just go straight to the whites, because that’s what they play everywhere, and it’s way too long, and it plays slow as hell. Just about every time I’ve played there, I’ve been stuck behind people hitting it 180 to the right needing 3 shots to get to most par 4s. It’s been several years since I’ve been out there, because I swore it off after the last time it took over 5 hours to play.

Been mapping the course layouts and checking out the specs for an upcoming trip to Tullymore and Bucks Run next week and have some Bucks Run questions:

(1) The online scorecard that I'm able to find shows both the Black and White tees at 73.0 Rating and 120 Slope...is that correct? https://course.bluegolf.com/bluegolf/course/course/bucksrungc/detailedscorecard.htm

(2) How could the extra ~500 yds not impact the rating & slope at all?

(3) I don't often see a course Rating higher than 72 coupled with a Slope less than 130-ish. On the map, I'm not seeing a ton of greenside trouble, but there appear to be 6 holes with water in play and plenty of others where the driving alley is maybe 40-60 yards wide. If the Slope is really only 120, why is it so low?

If you are actually in Ann Arbor and don't want to drive 30 minutes, I like the Leslie Park and Washtenaw Golf Club recommendations. Washtenaw might be less crowded and slightly better pace of play. Neither are 7,000 yards from the tips so if you want that experience, consider driving to Pierce Lake, Majestic or Moose Ridge. I have lived in Ann Arbor over 30 years so I hope I know what I am talking about.

I live in Lansing and play my league out at Eagle Eye/Hawk Hollow. I can also second Timber Ridge. Hawk Hollow properties just took over ownership this year. Really nice layout and I have heard rumors about vastly improved conditions this year (have not played it this summer). Also the Emerald in St. Johns would be my top choice besides Eagle/Hawk. It is about 30 minutes away with corn fields all around but it surprisingly has great topography and great greens.

That's a tough one. I think it really comes down to personal preference because they are on a equal level imo. Buck's run has a much nicer clubhouse if that matters.

Hemlock has some really interesting holes with sand formations mix with traditional up-north style wooded holes. Buck's is your traditional up-north wooded course. Both are pretty difficult.

It's a bit South of I69 off of 75 but Shepherd's Hollow is always a good stop. Would probably be a half hour there and half back to 69 so maybe an hour total out of your way. Forest Dunes is in Roscommon which is fairly close to Gaylord but would be a great option too.

I would look into The Dream or The Nightmare in West Branch. My group always plays there on the way up north. I have heard great things about Apple Mountain in Freeland.

Eagle Glen in Farwell is pretty much on the way if you take a route 10 minutes slower according to current traffic conditions.

Edit: just saw the route you’re taking so nevermind!

Forest Dunes would by my top suggestion. Dream/Nightmare or The Quest for more budget friendly options.
