Can the mods explain why were are not allowed to discuss COVID impact on Michigan golf? It is a real thing. I keep seeing people’s comments being deleted. I know this is your site and you make rules. I just want to understand reasoning.

interesting development at least for Kent county. This has been the policy at my home course as well. Nice to hear someone finally ask the golf question regarding clubs with members, not just asking about the general public.

JMO, not a mod, but I think it's got to do with flagrant discussion baiting, thinly-veiled insults, and repeated patterns of violations from this thread. It's a touchy subject, for sure, and hurling insults and swears is most assuredly not the way to maturely handle the discussion.

Almost every covid related thread I've seen has been locked up. Not sure if they don't want us talking about it, or it's just that people either start talking politics or insulting each other for caring about golf during the pandemic.

I screwed up and missed the memo on what we’re allowed to purchase, painted the walls of my house when we bought it but never got around to doing the trim around the floor. Was going to work on that this week with the weather being crappy but apparently I can’t buy paint now. I’m gonna lose it if the power goes out, hopefully this wind today isn’t as bad as they are saying. There was a massive tornado down south that was on the ground for 100 miles, the flying debris actually showed up on radar.

You can buy paint at some stores like smaller hardware stores (ACE, True Value) or paint shops like Sherman Williams. The restriction was on Mendards, Lowes, etc because too many people shopping those stores.

All our club members were circulating the Grand Rapids story. Our board has said no golf allowed, but we can use property to walk if we want. I am guessing the Governor's office or Michigan AG will make a statement on it at some point.

Thanks for the heads up on paint, need something to do this week. We’ve been open for members this whole time, a local judge who’s a member at another club wrote a letter our GM was going to use if needed basically saying nothing wrong is going on here leave it alone. As far as I know he hasn’t had to use it, obviously if they were threatened with a fine we’d have to stop playing. The only thing pissing me off is the amount of non members out there, on nice day’s there will be a group on every hole and about half are members.

We had to put a bunch of no-trespassing signs up on the course - way too many non-members using it to walk their dogs. Also some people golfing.

Thanks! I have 9 foot ceilings and a 12.5' foot width so it's a little tight for righty/lefty, but I've been able to comfortably hit my 18°hybrid so it will be more than enough to keep myself and my family entertained.

Oakland county sheriff was on the news saying not going to enforce the golfing restriction. Didn’t clarify if this was for private or all courses but at least some positive news.

I have been happy to see that the local courses are performing some degree of spring maintenance like cutting the fairways, blowing leaves and sticks off the course, fertilizing greens, etc ... If/when things open up, conditions should be decent.

As expected, Dates for Michigan Am qualifiers have been changed (and they pushed back the entry deadline to 5/11), in many cases. I think it's probably wishful thinking that these will go on as currently scheduled, but here are the new dates:

I am getting emails from courses trying to sell memberships saying that if you are a member, you can play.

Probably E6. Initially I'm just going to use the 5 courses it comes with (which I understand to be basically an E6 "light"), but I did just buy a gaming laptop for the eventual upgrade so I know it's happening, it's just a matter of when.

Most private clubs that got permission from local police are opening for play with very strict guidelines. Tee times only, no guest play, cups turned upside down, must park two cars away from another in parking lot. Tee times 20 min apart to prevent “gathering”. Just one tee marker for each set so you you have at least a 6 foot area to tee off. There will be no money exchanged , no carts, no contact with employees, in fact this is probably much safer then going to the local drugstore

The issue was at least at my club was people driving by calling the police reporting people outside on a golf course, these were pry the same people reporting people being outside doing yard work. Now that that has been cleared up, let’s hope the weather gets back to what it was like 2 weeks ago.

 

Side note, Does anyone know anyplace open to swap out adapters on a new shaft?

Got an email yesterday, I really liked the gowanie setup(70+ people so 8-10 spots) early in the year, have had some success there. Which one will your play in?

I'm signed up for the one at Salem Hills. In normal times, I play there in the mornings once or twice a week before work once the weather starts to turn nice, so I know the course probably better than any other.

If the goal is to qualify this is the one to play in every year. Its on the same day as the first round of the Horton Smith so most of the better SE michigan Am players don't have the option to play there. Its also a very east course if you can move the ball left to right. I typically caddie for a buddy who plays there and he makes it through easy. If my ball turns right its because I shanked it so I've never tried there.
