OK, Michigan peeps, let’s see if we can spur some mid-winter activity on this thread.

What Michigan courses are you looking forward to playing this coming season?

I’m on the West Michigan coastline, so besides my regular club rounds and possibly some local tourneys, my wife and I usually head up to Hemlock once every summer.  Then I try to play at least one round someplace I’ve never played before.  I keep a list of all courses I’ve ever played so I like to see that list continue to grow.  On my radar for this summer is The Falls at Barber Creek or Quail Ridge.

How about you?

Headed to the UP in June to play Sweetgrass and Greywalls.  I can't wait.

If you make the drive play graywells twice. Sweet grass is nice to, but not in same ballpark.

That is what I told my buddies I am going with.  I convinced them to stay an extra night and play 36 at Greywalls.

It is going to be an interesting year for me golf wise.  I am going to have to change my grip to take pressure off my thumb to avoid reinjury.  I took some 75% swings this weekend and the only way I can avoid pain is to take my left thumb off the shaft and wrap it on top of my middle finger of my left hand.  I can still interlock and keep my right hand the same, but results are very inconsistent to start.

I just got caught up on the thread after not having checked it for a few months. I was fortunate enough to make a hole-in-one back in December and thought I posted about it, but in the excitement of the aftermath and celebratory drinks I never hit submit lol.

TBH all the policing of this place back in the spring really turned me off (much like OW), but I think I'm ready to start checking in regularly again.

So far this winter I've been to SC, AZ and FL, with two more Florida trips in the next month (one with wife and one for work). I actually love traveling during covid. I've been upgraded to first class or comfort + on literally every flight, and I've flown over 10 times since May. Hotels are cheap and flexible too.

One other thing of note: I literally rebuilt my swing from scratch in late December and I'm finally seeing results. I've needed to do this for some time now, but could never hit enough balls over the winter to make it stick. Having the swing bay and launch monitor is a game changer.

Oh, and I went to Carl's for a driver fitting last week and put an order in for a SIM2 with a Rogue silver 70s. This will be my first TM driver in over ten years.

Sorry for the novel...I've been absent too long!

I've got connections, or at least used to, and a buddy who's supremely interested in playing golf that lives up there.  I played a round at Heritage a few years ago, but didn't know if Greywalls was run differently.

On another note, how the heck does Maple Hill operate at a profit?  I bought my set of Ping G400's there last summer, for *less* than the trade-in value I'm seeing on 2ndSwing and Callaway Preowned.

How bad is the snow on the West side of the state? Over here, we'd gotten a couple of snowfalls each week of about an inch or so for the past few weeks that had piled up on top of each other, but we'd avoided any big snowstorms before this week. Now there's probably around a foot on the ground with another 2-3" expected the next few days, but then it looks like high temps will be above freezing for most of next week. No real warm days, though, so it's probably going to be a while before we see grass.

Here in Battle Creek, we have about 2 - 3 feet on the ground.  Snow bank at end of driveway is same height as mailbox.  I had to shovel out a path in the yard for the dogs.

Good grief, don't they sell snowblowers over in Michigan?

And isn't your hand issue a perfect excuse to get one?  DO a few neighbors driveways and you pay for whatever clubs you are saving for instead!

I'm not that desperate...yet

Is anyone here a member at Western G&CC or Dearborn CC? TPC Michigan would probably be the most cost-effective option in the area, but it's about a half hour from my house, and that extra drive time doesn't seem like much, but would probably affect how often I'd be able to get there to play.

I just read this, I live in Northville on the 3rd hole at NHGC.  I’m a member at TPC, the drive each way is not that big of a deal for me.  Course conditioning is pretty good, greens are fast and the food is great.  the cost isn’t bad at all, much less than what I was paying in the Columbus Ohio area up to fall of 2018.  My only complaint is that in the last year, the tee sheet is PACKED.  Definitely need to plan ahead.

One big plus for TPC is that I like to travel, the access to private TPC clubs at cart fees only, private clubs on the TPC Passport as well as the Club Corp perks make it a steal for me.

Beats the hell out of playing in my neighborhood at a 5+ hour pace.

pm me if you have any questions.  You’re welcome to join me if you want to play the course before signing...

Oh that's when it gets really fun.

On a serious note, one of the ways a snowblower really saves if the fact it throws the early snow further away from the driveway, so that as the season wears on and more snow piles up, it isn't as high right near the edge.  Getting the snow away from the sides early on can really pay off later on.

There's a fine balance with our machine - too high/far and the wind carries it right back into your face.  To low/close and it just piles right on up.  My dad's old machine had a super nice adjustable chute, but ours is one where you've gotta manually adjust it, so I like to set it at about 30 degrees from horizontal then lock it down for the season.

How's your hand? I saw sports specialist today and had X-Rays/MRI and no damage to tendons, but I have significant arthritis in a specific spot at the base of my thumb.  They are going to start with a steroid injection next week in that area and see how that helps.  If it doesn't, then I will meet with a surgeon.

I also got referred to a golf specific athletic trainer to help work on any mechanical or grip adjustments that I can make to alleviate stress on the area.

I will also be looking to make equipment changes - probably switch to graphite shafts in my irons and wedges.  Does any one know if Miles has them for fittings?

It sounds like my hand issue isn't nearly as bad as yours. I'm pretty sure that mine is a fairly benign thing called a carpal boss. I have a little pain sometimes, but it's usually not a big deal, and a couple of advil makes it feel better.

AH yes, the good old blow-back.  The prevailing wind here comes from the west.  Because of the fact our driveway is 3 feet away from the one to the east, I have to throw my snow to the west.  My neighbor showed me the ski goggles he wears, and that was my first purchase after getting the blower.  Unlike 3 Jack, my neighbor isn't a jackass, so I'm not justified throwing it in his driveway!

That sucks you need to manually adjust the chute.  That would get old real quick.

It looks like we're going to be seeing a pretty decent thaw over the next week or so -- I'd think that most of the snow here in the Detroit area will melt by the end of the weekend. I'm sure we're still a ways off from being able to play, but hopefully the groundhog was wrong this year.
