All Things Michigan Golf....the Mulligan (MOD EDIT: NO POLITICS, NO COVID-19, NO ECONOMICS)

Golf course and Pioneer are great, but total gridlock getting out and it's $50 (maybe more for this game). Last game I went to, I parked north of the stadium by Fingerle lumber, and it was still fun, plus easier to leave. Keep in mind I'm heading north up 23 to head home. From Pioneer and the golf course, they tend to not let people go north because you are on the south side of Stadium Blvd and that's just the way they direct traffic. Even IF they only get 70,000 people, that's still a lot of traffic (don't count on that btw, they'll have over 100K there for this one)

I'll be at the game as well, but tailgating with some friends who have a reserved spot near the stadium. Should be fun....planning to bring plenty of "medication", though I think they have a good shot to win this one.

Need some help guys....I'm feeling like trying some new drivers, but don't know what to hit. I hit my Jetspeed great...my only complaint is that I sometimes hit it too high and get no run out. Since I've got my swing grooved now, I'm thinking of trying some new stuff, but obviously there's more coming in a few months. Do I wait? Or is there something out now that's worth hitting?

When I went on the Launch Pad last month the lowest spinning driver for me was the Bio Cell +. I really love the look and feel of that club and if I was to ever stray from Titleist that is the driver I would choose.

The way you were playing, I probably wouldn't have let you hit it. You were making Sweet and me money the way you were nutting' the Jetspeed.

Good question....I know for a 3:30 game we got to the course at 10 and were probably a couple hours early as far as being able to get a spot to tailgate (this wasn't a meaningful game though....not that this one really is either given our record, but you get my drift). The 7:00 start is different I think. I have a feeling people will roll in before lunch and do two tailgates, lunch and dinner. That's our plan anyway. I'd say if you got there by noon or 1, you should be good to go. But I haven't done a night game before so it's really hard to say!

Hi Gents! Glad I found this thread. I was subscribed to the previous one and was always lurking...

Anyway, end of my first summer in MI (GR area) and unfortunately, didn't get out much because of a new addition to the family, but hopefully I can get out more next year.

But if this winter is as bad as the last one, I'm moving back to NY!

I keep seeing this comment about getting no roll. This year, it's more a function of course conditions than anything, I think. It's been so wet, I don't care how low your spin rate or descent angle is, it's not going to run out much.
But this is WRX, so if you want low spin, low launch, try a Ping i25, maybe the new 915D3, Adams XTD (cheaper option), or grab a Superdeep head if you don't care if it's new. I hit the Bio Cell + like crap the one time I tried it, but I know multiple good players who have gotten great numbers with it. It's ugly as hell, IMO, though.

Doz, I have a work trip to San Fran in early November. I decided to fly out a day early to try to play Pebble Beach. It's going to be a crap shoot because I will have to call in 24 hours beforehand to try to get a tee time since I am not staying on property. Did you fly into San Fran? GoogleMaps says it is a 2 hour drive. Is this accurate from your memory?

Also, what was your caddy's name?

Max, if I recall correctly, you can book at Spyglass or Spanish Bay in advance without a hotel stay. I'd book one of those so you have a fall back. You can upgrade to PB the day before based on availability.

Great point....on the whole issue of increasing roll out I picked up one of the TM UDI's to mess with. It is fun carrying a 1 iron, actually...plus it keeps the lightning away! Plus with the fall wind, it's nice to have a wind cheater.

I fly to SFO and SJC a few times a year for work, and 2 hours sounds about right to get to Pebble, though it depends on what time of day, and traffic (it sucks hard around Silicon Valley). If Pebble falls through, there's some other really good options that aren't nearly as much of a drive from SFO. Half Moon Bay is about a half hour or so away from the airport, with two courses and the kind of ocean views that will blow you away. Not a bad fallback option.

Any of you guys play the Magnolia at Disney before?
will be there in 2 weeks and looking for any inside tips available...
so it's Disney in 2 weeks ...home for a week...AZ for a week...home for a week...and then possibly the BIG move (depending on how the job hunt pans out)
[/quote]

My family has had a Disney timeshare for some time now so I have played both Palm and Magnolia, honestly last time was a few years ago but doth remember enough that will help really. I do remember wishing I spent more time practicing bunker shots as there are quite a few large ones, as well as being smart about your course management cause of placement of water and such. Also do remember it was one of the few courses I didn't play the tips, as the tips were more than 7500 yards, and I was 16/17 haha. Most of all, bring a camera, really a beautiful course, in normal Disney style.

BTW guys, dropped my irons off at Miles today to get them checked and set back as I felt them getting weaker and hadn't got them checked for a few years. While I was there asked them if I could get some time with the 915, well they said today was the fist day they are letting the public use them and the first one today to ask haha. As I just got my SLDR from them it scared me to hit another driver cause I felt I'd love it, well I do haha. I balloon the ball but hit a 7 cranked to a 6.5 with X white board and it was money, I generate a ton of spin and couldnt believe how much less this thing spun compare to my 910 I had. I think I may be getting myself a christmas gift lol. I know a few guys have fittings, all i gotta say is get excited ;)

I flew into San Jose, 70 mins to Pebble. From San Fran, rule of thumb is 2 hours. What day would you be playing Pebble? You don't need a hotel if you can play during the week...I didn't have to book a hotel during my round (Wednesday). If you call Reservations and start poking around, they will get you a tee time without the hotel stay if it's like a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday...Thursday - Sunday might be hotel stay dependent. I will say try to get a 10:30 - 1pm time...morning fog will burn off by 10am typically. If you are going to grab lunch or dinner, my cousin owns the Taste of Monterey if you like wine...beautifully located on the bay for wine tasting and dinner.

Caddie was Paul - Guy was phenomenal...been there for 20 some years.

If your timing is such where you have to book a hotel and you don't a get a round in at Pebble, the next best option in the Monterey Bay area is SpyGlass, up in Santa Cruz is a must play, Pasatiempo (Alister MacKenzie Design and his residence during his end days). If Pebble wasn't doable for me, the next best option is Pasatiempo hands down, add to your Alister MacKenzie courses too. :)

Thanks 3JP. I actually got to play both Half Moon Bay courses last summer when I was out there for a wedding. You are right though, the Ocean course has some terrific views. I did not care for the Old Course, but the 18th hole is one of the coolest finishing holes I have ever played.

Great day at Carl's with Pete and Greg! 915 stuff is no joke. Will post a full review tomorrow.

Here are the winners from yesterday's 915 fitting at Carl's Launchpad with Pete and Greg. They are great to work with for anyone looking to get fit and the ability to try a number of higher end shafts and many different shaft weights outside of the stock options. I have been swinging the club much better as of late due to some major swing improvements and not taking it so far inside on the backswing and getting stuck. During the fitting, we realized I am much more consistent with heavier shafts as it controls my timing better as I have a very quick transition and don't allow the shaft to load. We tried a number of different shafts and instead of boring you with them I will tell you the winners.

915D2 8.5 New Diamana D+ 70 Stiff
915 Fd 15 New Diamana D+ 80 Stiff (the sole design of the Fd was actually easier to elevate and produced slightly better numbers and felt more solid than the 915f; their were a lot of thin shots due to the sole design of the f)
915f 18 New Diamana D+ 100 Stiff
