I am pretty pumped to go for my fitting tomorrow although my grandpa passed away yesterday morning at the age of 86. Maybe golf will help take my mind off things for a little while before i attend the funeral all day. I have been battling a sore elbow from working out heavy so hopefully I am able to swing comfortably.

Sorry for your loss Thunder. Sometimes it is good to have distractions like golf during tough times.

Finally was able to jump on my laptop to post some numbers. Below is what I bought compared to what my existing clubs are. What I am most surprised about these days is how well the stock shafts perform against the high end shafts. Over the last year or two I always try to throw in a high end shaft (Graphite Design, Oban, Fujikura) to get that "cool" factor, but the stock Titleist shafts always perform the same, or better. On the one hand I save a lot of money which is great, but I missed having that "cool" high-end shaft. Anyways, on to the numbers.

913D2 -- Smash: 1.43, Ball Speed: 165.9, Launch Ang: 7.7, Spin: 3038, Carry: 270 (D+ shaft)
915D2 -- Smash: 1.46, Ball Speed: 171.8, Launch Ang: 6.8, Spin: 2508, Carry: 278 (Rogue shaft)

910F 15* -- Smash: 1.41, Ball Speed 156.2, Launch Ang: 8.5, Spin: 3748, Carry: 248.7 (Diamana White shaft)
915F 15* -- Smash: 1.52, Ball Speed 163.7, Launch Ang: 6.5, Spin: 3370, Carry: 261.5 (Diamana White shaft)

TM 2009 Rescue -- Smash: 1.42, Ball Speed 149.4, Launch Ang: 9.0, Spin: 4036, Carry: 232.8 (Oban Devotion shaft)
915H 19.5 -- Smash: 1.45, Ball Speed 152.5, Launch Ang: 10.1, Spin: 3653, Carry: 245.5 (Diamana White shaft)

Played Purgatory just north of Indy today. Good track, remember reading some posts talking about how difficult it is. Did not find that to be the case. Played it at 6400 and fired an 82. Greens were fast and pure, big too. Lots of mounding and bunkers. Not bad for starting with a piece of central Indiana flat as a pancake land.

Tried to post the numbers previously so you can see them but the numbers were too small when I transferred them. Here is an easier to see table of numbers. For my swing speed I'm not much more I can get out of clubs without increasing swing speed. Here are the averages from trackman:

Welllllll...THAT was embarrassing. Really disappointed in the way that I played today. Just could not seem to string any good shots together. On the bright side I am happy to say that I did not let my awful play take away from the experience of playing one of the top courses in the country. I can honestly say that I enjoyed every minute of it. Seeing courses like that first hand give you a great appreciation for just how good PGA golfers are. We had optimal conditions today (except for 3 holes of rain) and it still played pretty tough. I cannot imagine what that course is like when the grow the rough out and have the greens rolling at a 12 or 13.

Today's round seem to cap off an alarming trend in my game from this summer. I had arguably my best summer of golf ever and my handicap is as low as it has ever been, but I can't seem to elevate my game when playing a tougher course. I have been hovering around a 4 index all summer, but my scores on tough golf courses are pretty high. Oakland Hills-93, Crystal Downs-87, GTR The Bear-97, Forest Dunes-83, etc.

I'll keep plugging away next summer and try to get better at these tough courses, but man is it frustrating because you don't know when you will get a chance to play them again.

Just because this is WRX....If I would've had my 915 woods I would've broken par today :)

I guess I sort of notice that when I think about some rounds the past season or two. It seems when I am playing some of the REALLY great courses, I don't do real well either. I couldn't muster up anything better then an 85 at Muirfield Village, or the Golf Club in Columbus, and I played both of those from the one ups. A few weeks ago I played the Pete Dye course in West Virginia twice, and shot 85 from the one ups and a sweet 90 from the tips. I do know that I have never been as nervous standing on a tee box as I was on the 1st at the Golf Club. I am sure that has something to do with it. My index seems to travel fairly well at most courses, but the tougher/better courses seem to make my index look foolish the majority of the time.

Mr. Thunder, condolences on the loss of your grandfather.

Mr. Max, learn from the stumbles, embrace the successes. Club Champ and winner of the Erskine Cup. You had a great year my friend.

BTW, Valhalla was AWESOME! not a single bad hole on the course. 4 or 5 memorable holes and #18 could be one of the 5 best holes I have ever played.

My index is the lowest it has been this summer has well and I have been more consistent, but when my game is not there - my ball striking really struggles. I have had some good rounds at tough courses, but have also had some really bad ones. Key for is to make bad rounds not terrible by eliminating doubles. I played poorly in the 4-ball with 3JP - but part of that was not having tournament rounds. I find hard courses are about knowledge - which sucks because you only play those courses rarely. Having played 36 at Kingsley this year, I improved 6 strokes from morning to afternoon.

Some pics from Valhalla. Like Max, I've struggled the couple of times I've played highly rated courses this year. I went 84/91 at Muirfield Village playing from the Memorial tournament tee boxes, and shot an 87 on Sunday at Valhalla playing it from one box up (6975 yards on the card). At Valhalla, I had a bad start, picking the wrong lines on the first 3 tee shots, all of which were well struck, but ended up in bad spots, but I managed to limit those to bogies. Then I had a stretch of really bad swings off some tees on the back nine, carding 3 doubles in a 5-hole stretch. One was basically topped, which I haven't done with a driver in probably a decade, at least. Add that to the fact that I made nothing outside of 2 feet all day (but hey, no 3 putts...), and the result was a disappointing number. But it was still a ton of fun, and a beautiful day![attachment=2457597:photo 5.JPG][attachment=2457599:photo 3.JPG][attachment=2457601:photo 4.JPG][attachment=2457603:photo 2.JPG][attachment=2457605:photo 1.JPG]

Thunder, sorry for your loss bud.

Nice pics from Valhalla, man what an experience that would have been.

My golf goals for the summer have been completed, I wanted to shoot under my index in tourney golf and put a round up in the 60s. I shot a few even-+1 in Publinx and shot 72 to win a club tourney a couple weeks ago in tough conditions. I should have shot in the 60s numerous times but it never worked out, fired a 68 yesterday though. I came to 15 tee at one of my home courses 2 down which I've done 5+ times as all the par 5's are early, normally screw up the tough par 4's 15-18. Hit a drive through the dogleg and thought "here we go again", had to take an unplayable from a tree trunk and a yard short I would have been fine. Stuck it and made the putt for par followed by two more sticky birds for the 68. I hit it inside 4 feet from 86, 133, 137, and 142 on 13/15/16/17. It's the 8th time this year I've hit at least 15 greens, I missed two a foot short of the surface and had the aforementioned drop.

Let the ho'ing begin!

2 over standing on #9 tee box at Valhalla. Playing box up from 3J and ITW. Proceeded to make triple and turm in 41.
47 on the back for an 88. The final 5 holes on that course are brutal hard. Feel like my ballstriking improved this year. Short game did not though. Putter is not an issue. Bottom line, some improvement, still a ways to go.

Thanks for the support guys. I wrote the eulogy and attempted to present it but only made it through the first 2 sentences before I had the pastor step in and finish it for me.
