Comparable to Mizuno Windlite?

Recommended Posts

I have found nothing comparable to the Windlite, I usually will just wear a white crew neck undershirt and the Windlite and have never had any issues in the colder temps and also no swing restrictions wearing the Windlite but it does make a little rustling sound, but not enough to be any real issue.

I just bought a Mizuno Windlite off the BST. I haven't had a chance to wear it on the course. However, I do own two Ashworth Performance Pima Half-Zip Wind Sweaters (hm... that doesn't roll off the tongue like Windlite....). They keep me nice and warm in the mid 50s while walking. I normally have to take them off when I wear them to the range because I overheat. I haven't had any trouble with wind.

That being said, I have no idea how it compares with the Windlite. Just from wearing it in the house and trying it on, I would say that the Windlite feels a bit heavier, which could keep heat in and wind out. But it also feels a bit more bulky.

I haven't found the windlite to be that warm. It is great at blocking the wind, but other tops are warmer when there is no wind. The windlite is just too thin.

I'm not saying that you did not experience this. However, after reading all the other posts about how the wind lite is the holy grail, what you are saying is blasphemous! ;)

Which sort of windlite do you own?

Nike Wind Resist jacket looks similar and can be had for around $100 as an alternative.

I have the Windlite. It is awesome, but it needs to be like sub 40 degrees for me to wear it as it is very warm.

I wear a Windlite over a long-sleeve thermal compression shirt and I am completely comfortable in temps as low as 40 or even lower. This is the compression shirt I own and I love it:

http://www.amazon.com/COOVY-Winter-Thermal-Compression-Layer/dp/B00D5ETOH8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1415734198&sr=8-1&keywords=coovy

$65 for a Windlite (what I paid new) and a $25 thermal compression shirt. For $90 (less if you look for deals or just better prices as mentioned above) this should be more than adequate.

My experience is the Windlite is great in the cold. I'm 65 with a touch of Arthritis so cold is an issue with me. Not when I'm wearing the Windlite. I wonder if the previous poster had a knockoff or was mistaken about having an authentic Mizuno Windlite sweater.

The windlite sweater?

You can't really wear it over 50 degrees or you'll roast. I played 3 rounds Saturday and Sunday in Minneapolis and the high never went over 42. Even then, with a baselayer, I was sweating. But it was too cold and windy too take it of or I'd freeze. So I decided that too warm is better than too cold and kept it on.

I wear mine, with a cotton polo and no baselayer, as my winter jacket down to about 20 degrees. Lower than that, I'd need a baselayer or I go to my carharrt or marmot winter jackets if I don't feel like layering up.

Blasphemous for sure.:)

He may have the polar fleece version. I just accidentally won one on eBay and have been trying it out. It's definitely lighter than the sweater, but blocks the wind just as well. I haven't tried it in the COLD yet, but just guessing by the weight of it I imagine it won't be as warm as the sweater.

It's about 25 out now and dropping. I'll give it a shot without a baselayer tonight as my jacket at work.

My windlite arrived in the post today.

Its really nice quality and fits well, but Its no where near as warm as I was expecting though. Have worn it round the house with the heating on and wasn't hot at all.. Its the newer flex model, so maybe they aren't as warm as the previous incarnations?

Still a very nice jumper though, be good for autumn golf over here, I don't think just this and a base-layer will cut it in the depths of winter though. Might try and keep my eye out on the bay for one of the older ones too.

I have the Windlite Flex. Maybe you have something different but I have found my Adidas pull over to be warmer. Just not impressed with the Windlite. I have an old Slazenger that I find warmer. I bought the Windlite based on the praise for it on this board, but I haven't found that to be the case. Maybe it's just me.

I can't imagine someone thinking they're not warm enough. By far the best I've used.

Played today in an older Nike Longsleeve cotton mock turtleneck and my windlight. 35* and I was sweating a bit.

I don't wear it if the temp is over 40*
Have you got one of the older models or the new flex version?

I think the flex version is pretty good after wearing it a few times. But Its not quite as toasty warm as I was expecting from the reviews though. I've been wearing it with a base layer and a polo in temps 40-45 degrees and it is just about adequate. I'm tempted to go base layer, thin mid-layer then windlite tbh.

That sounds like it is the real question. I wonder If they changed them. I actually have one of the early ones (in the bright blue Mizuno color) and then two from two years ago (from the Rock Bottom Golf two for $89 ((or something like that amount)) deal).

I do think the original one might be a bit warmer, but it was one of the newer ones I was wearing yesterday, and was still very warm.

I just looked on the label of my two Windlight sweaters and they both say "Windlight Flex". However they are two years old and are distinctly different than the new Mizuno products. Can anyone check their label and see if they say Windlight Flex also? They work fine and keep me warm so I'm just curious. Thanks. Photo of one of my sweaters attached.

I've worn mine with snow coming down on a windy links with a long sleeve base layer and a golf shirt. Was warm enough.

This is the windlite I have, it says Windlite flex in the label. It is a good jumper and pretty warm, just not as warm as I was expecting. Its not the same style as chrisphoto posted above.

My new ones do say "flex", the original one just says Windlite.
Is the only difference the label or are the sweaters actually different (warmer, heavier, etc.)?
I think they're pretty similar. Trying to add a picture. The blue one in my picture is the older model. In the pictures above, the blue one looks heavier than the gray one.
