Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck is seeking the public's help tracking down vandals on all-terrain vehicles who damaged two holes on the east course Sunday.

The famed Winged Foot Golf Club is seeking the public's help in tracking down the drivers of two all-terrain vehicles that did tens of thousands of dollars in damage to two holes on the east course.

About 3 p.m. Sunday, two ATVs — one smaller and lime green, the other a large, yellow utility-terrain vehicle — were seen entering the Winged Foot property from Old White Plains Road, just off the No. 5 East green, according to the club. They did considerable damage to the No. 5 East hole and the green on No. 6 East, the club said. No. 5 East will be closed for the rest of the season to make repairs, the club said.

A member of the club and a caddie witnessed the incident. There was one person on each ATV. Winged Foot will be working with the Town of Mamaroneck Police Department to identify, arrest and prosecute the vandals.

Anyone who has seen the vehicles in the neighborhood and can provide any information, or who witnessed the incident on Sunday, is asked to contact the police at 914-381-6100 and ask for the Detective Division.

Winged Foot hosted the PGA Championship in 1997 and the U.S. Open in 1929, 1959, 1974, 1984 and 2006. It will host the 2020 Open.

In my hometown, someone drove their truck and skidded over like 10-12 greens. Ended up being a course maintenance guy who was fired earlier that year.

They caught a guy doing circles in our first fairway last year .. in a pick up truck

The best screw up story was a former assistant pro that crashed his car into the clubhouse at a club an hour north of here about 5 years back .. the place ended up burning down !!!

As a person that rides dirt bikes off road, this really bothers me. Probably 4-wheelers, the bane of our existence. They get more riding areas closed off to us than anything. But, support opening riding areas to give asswipes like this a place to ride instead of closing them. If they have no place to ride, this crap happens. Sorry but we have no control over these idiots either.

Happened in one of my ex-home courses. The course runs along a public road. Any car can come in and mess up the field but it was a golf cart that did the wheelies and runined 2 fairways. That's what really hurt. It was someone in golf cart who intentionally messed up the field ... another golfer. Some people should not or are not meant to play golf.

We have had problems like this at my home course as well. When it has happened it's generally just been kids on dirt bikes although one time one of the greens had Golf is Gay burned into it...I now suspect Patrick Reed.

it is interesting.....people drive by homes with lawns all day long but you never see them swerving over to peel out a few doughnuts and kick up dust. but for some reason the allure of doing that on a golf course is too much to pass up. pathetic

I rode my dirt bike to the golf course to play with my clubs on my back. Parked it in the parking lot. A friend wanted to ride it so I told him OK. I though he'd take it down the street or something. No, right down the fairway. He was a member longer than I was and I just looked the other way. Didn't really do any damage but I was taken aback a bit. Nothing came of it, fortunately.

One night at my old course some kids took about 70 divots on 16's green. Took months to recover. It's ridiculous that people do things like this.

At the beginning of last season some guy put weed killer on the majority of our greens (about 12). The sections affected went a bright blue like if a Smurf was massacred on them. Really messed them up for the whole season. But they were on great condition for the last week it was open. It was a real shame because we lost a lot of business and the rest of the course was in beautiful condition other then the greens. I know of a few disgruntled members that would love to get their hands on the guy who did it.
