It just me or are a lot of pros switching to Nippon Iron Shafts?

I tested these shafts the other day. Buddy of mine set me up with an mp5 head from mizuno cart, and said hit these shafts. Ns pro 950 felt nice,105 meh,120meh then tried the 130. Wow!!! Found my new iron shafts.

I'm long time project x user. Flighted and non flighted 6.5 and 6.0. Not a high spin player, but do have high launch. Funny thing is the ns pro 950 and the modus 130 both felt great to me. The 105,and 120 just were meh. Am I the only one that found this out hitting these shafts?

Tried nippon before. Have the WV wedge shaft and won't play another wedge shaft. Unfortunately, these are hard to find now.

Like the guy above, I also thought the 105x felt the best. This is also coming from a long time DG X100 user. I thought I was going to like the 130 better but it was the 105 that I liked.

Different strokes

question

the 105x - Likers - swing speed on 6 iron? / release early/mid/late / transition and tempo ?

vs the 130s -Likers

trying to Nail down which one I like the best

130s feels like more work than the 105x, but better blasted, height, carry

105x's consistency and smoothness feel unparalleled though

i'm struggling on deciding

appreciated

If you like working the ball, the 105 is easier to work. The 105 is easier to hit. The 130 is straighter, but if you like curving the ball, 130 takes alot more effort. 130 is low spin. 105 is mid spin. Which one is gonna help you play better Golf for your game? I've played them all, so pm me with questions.

Not trying to be overbearing but just put a set 5-PW Adams XTD Forged in the for sale forum with extra stiff Nippon Super Peening Blues for less than I paid for the shafts. These are first time installs not pulls.

is anyone hitting the 105 and something else in their wedges? have the 105x ready to install but unsure if i want them in my wedges. may want something heavier.

105 in irons and s400 in wedges.

I like my shafts, but my next set will probably have this combo.

I'm thinking of going back to the 125s in irons, s400 in wedges are a mainstay. I really (really) like the 105s, but the light weight has me overdrawing it at times, nearly subconsciously. The 125s also helped me maintain my tempo when I would tend to get quick.

I like everything about the 105s, but I've played with weight in the irons for so long that the feel is ingrained and I know what to expect with that feel.

I still standby everything that I've said about the 105s though.

I have hit the 120s, 120x, 120x ssx1, 105x, 105s, 130s. All feel really good, but the best results have come from the 105s. I can't believe the apex, height and distance I am getting with the 105s. Thought it would be too light for me, but it is not. Next up will be a 105s hsx1 to compare. Oh, BTW the 565 and 765 srixons with the nipppon shafts are awesome!

wondering how the 105x performed against the 105s

on the metrics you cite as well as you comment that you would look to hard-step the 105s possibly

what is your approx 6 or 8 i speed / release / transition characteristics so we can get a sense

I like the nips I was playing last year, but I have a higher swing speed, and I was using a lighter x flex shaft...ended up bending the tips of 4 shafts just from regular play. So I'm back to me c tapers.
Ive bent more c-tapers in S+ and X, countless others have too, most actually avoid C-taper all together due to constant bent tips. I've never bent a DG or Nippon. Surprised to hear it.
Thats strange! I have been using the same set of C-Taper 130X's for 2 years now, and had no issues.

In most cases the bending occurs under the ferrule and goes undetected until the shafts are pulled.

I thought the 105x didn't give me the height/spin I was looking for, the ball went very straight for me, so I am thinking that the 105s hard stepped might give me the best of both worlds...my driver ss is 98-100 mph. I have an early release that I am working on, trying to keep the lag, moderate transition. FYI--just added my 9i&6i 120s modus shafts to BST, pg.6.

all the nippon are good, better then anything i used before. the 105 wins, the 130 is second and the 120 is 3rd. Way better then steelfiber, dynamic gold, px and kbs tour. give them a shot they are smooth and straight

Would you consider the 105X soft-stepped as similar to the 105S hard-stepped? I like the 105S, but need a little extra weight.

interesting comment on the 105x going very straight

how would you compare that to the 130s in your trial - the 130 s is notorious for being straight and less workable

thanks

no. 105X is about 1/3 soft from 105X

Unless you use 105X straight, the dispersion can be more to the left if your swing is not super smooth. And depending on your swing type+swing strength, it can also have high flight. 130 has little high but nice projectile flight. but dispersion is not as good as 125. I think 125 have the best dispersion out of all modus series.(101, 120, 130). If any one remembers old Super Peening Blue, 125 is very similar to it with little less weight than SPB. If you want to have fun, go with 130 and 105. If you want to have more accuracy, go with 125

I found that the 105x doesn't give me the feel, feedback & ball flight I am looking for like the 105s does. The 105s goes high, straight and does very well into the wind. The performance is great. I think that I just want to hard-step it x1 to compare the dispersion. Also found that the 130 goes very straight and high as well. Anyone using the 130 in a sand/gap wedge instead of the 125/115 wedge shaft? What are your results? Currently using it in a 9i. I guess I need to try the 125 as well? U guys using the 125, what nippon/other shaft would u most compare it to?

Can anyone recommend some "modus" shafts to try out?

I currently have ns pro 1150gh tour shafts in stiff flex. I really like the way this shaft feels, everything about it is perfect apart from the ball flight, I can't keep it down!

I have tried as much as possible to learn how to hit the ball lower but I still struggle and on windy days I would like a shaft that will help me a bit

My SS with 6iron is 86-88

Driver 105

Mid everything really, tempo, transition, release but I would say slightly more of a hitter than swinger

Any recommendations are appreciated, I want to narrow my choice down to two shafts ideally that I can test over the winter against my current ns pro shaft

I'd say 125S or 120S hardstepped / 120X softstepped. The 1150 to me had a real snap/thump feel like DG and was oddly balanced to me. Felt a lot tip heavy. That makes me lean more towards the Tour120 for you to try.

Just dropping back in to say thanks and update!

After around 10 swings with both a 120s hard stepped x1 and the 125s straight in I knew I had found my shaft from the modus line and it is the tour 120

Thanks to all who have posted with info but a big thanks to Mark for your expert knowledge on this brand and for taking the time to reply to everyone's requests!

Through this website I have come to the realisation I love soft butt shafts

Graphalloy bi matrix in my driver

Fujikura pro in fairways

Modus tour 120 in irons and wedges

Never felt more comfortable with my swing!

Anyone know how the 105S compares to the C Taper Lite S?

I have the C Taper Lite in a 18° UDI and never really cared for the feel. I want something that feels a bit more solid/stable but maybe something a bit lighter since it is a driving iron. I have tried the 125 and the 120. I liked the 125 more and I thought since the 125 and 105 have similar profiles, but the 105 is lighter, the 105 would be suitable. But after reading that the 105 doesn't like quick transitions it seems like that might not suit me since I know when I get quick withe the C taper Lite dispersion does seems to suffer. The pro shop does have a 105 in a 7 iron. So I might go and give that a hit.
