It just me or are a lot of pros switching to Nippon Iron Shafts?

I'm RH also, but have lefty friends, so... yeah :)

Pointless anecdote caused by memory trigger... I'm told until age 3 or so, I was actually left handed. On my own, with no prompting, I switched to being right handed. I could switch hit in baseball with no practice, until age 11 or so when I gave it up entirely. Maybe my 3 yr old self knew I'd be starting golf in 32 years and had better get with the program? LOL

I had been using the 105X ssx1 for the last 2+ seasons. Had the proto version and then retail. Towards the end of last season, I felt like I could do better. Was seeing shots appearing to fall out of the sky due to lack of both launch & spin more regularly (not getting any younger), so I switched to 130R hsx1. The extra weight has been welcome. Like someone mentioned above, finding the best weight for you is critical, for me that's 120g. The initial results have been promising. Looking forward to this season getting going. Enjoying the 130Rs in my wedges as well.

Previous go to has always been KBS CT S ssx1. Almost identical weight.

Got out to chambers bay last weekend with my newest built set with 130S in irons and 125 wedge shafts in my wedges. Coming from S400 wedges they absolutely perform. The only way I'd switch is if 130s perform any better when I get around to getting a set of 130s for my wedges.

Is the general consensus the nippon modus 3 wedge shaft is the newer version of the wv wedge shaft?

I use the wv but can't find them anymore for a wedge build I'm doing.

It is the new version, though they are slightly different in stepping and feel. In this thread (have to do some searching), some prefer the new over the old, and vice versa.

Looking at new irons this spring, and honestly needing some seriously aid in shafts. I'm coming from s300 which are now basically like cooked spaghetti to me. I've been a full year at the gym doing powerlifting type work (safely, no Tiger drama for me) and I'm honestly now just too strong for what I have in my 690.mbs. Nippons intrigue me, and having read through all 130 pages of this thread has offered me some knowledge but no real answers. Driver SS is 118 ( though having fun on the monitor i can get to 128) and I have no idea what my iron SS is. the s300 this past year went way too high, ballooned and went nowhere. I overpowered it and felt like I had to knockdown swing everything. I think i'm a late release with a moderate tempo, maybe aggresive... I don't know. I believe that the readers on this thread are incredibly knowledgeable, and would love some advice for when I get fit this spring. I tried the 120 S in a 716cb head last spring, hated it.. Please help me clear some of the clouds from my head. Thank you, may the force be with you.

I'm similar to you from your description. I also powerlift, and my driver swing is close to 118. I also was ballooning the s300's, well I wouldn't say balloon but they definitely spun and curved. I went with the 130X , my launch is still high, but no way is it spinny. Also I enjoy the firm handle and midsection of the 130X even though on paper with my 'smoother' transition I should like a softer handle.

I would definitely give the 130X a demo. I'm sure the 125X or even Super Peening Blue might work for you as well. Hopefully someone else will chime in with more info as I've only hit the 130X and I'll never switch haha. Good luck

I'm using a Graphite Design Tour AD GP 7x. Don't be scared to try the 130x, I'm no gorilla that's for sure, but I'm not short either. I was worried about what I read here about the 130 x being rebar, as I ordered my clubs blind based off the Titleist shaft chart before I joined WRX like 3 years ago. I finally got to hit them recently (long story) and I was surprised how stable yet soft at impact they are. I don't feel like I need to swing 100% either. They also want to help you hit the ball very straight. Compared to the s300 where I was curving the sh*t out of the ball. Of course everyone is different but this has been my experience so far. I'd say demo one if you can.

+1 on what Palauan said. I play a AD GP 6TX in driver and I've been on a tear with the 130S but I just got to hit the 130X i recently built to compare and they don't feel boardy/rebarish/too stout at all. I was definitely able to swing 50-75-95% and each shot felt like Modus buttery-ness. I'm going to get on trackman to see which gives better numbers for my swing, but don't turn away from it until you give them a go yourself. You might be really surprised and happy you check them out!

*as a side note- I tried the 120X and TX side by side with the 130S and I really really did not mesh with the 120. At all. These shaft profiles are definitely suited to different players in each weight/flex.

The Modus3 wedge are all rated a W flex but have three different weights. Are the flexes the same

me or slightly different?

Flexes are different. 125 is the most stout, with the others being reported as more flex. Apparently, it is not a huge difference, though people notice.

125 wedge is a perfect match for a S or X flex Modus set

smoothness and trajectory control are impressive

anyone else testing these out ?

Just got the 125 Wedge installed into 2 new Clevelands Monday after coking the raw finish heads. All nice and rusty now. I will not have a chance to get out with them until this weekend. I'll have some feedback then. As noted, I have been playing Tour 125X 9 iron (tigerstepped) in my wedges for over a year. I actually ordered the 125s originally from Tour Spec because they weren't released in the US yet so its been that long. They have been my go to and its going to be tough for me to switch. These shafts and wedges are an experiment. If I don't like them, I'll default back to my Glides. I'll be posting them on the BST and someone will get a great deal.
