It just me or are a lot of pros switching to Nippon Iron Shafts?

I received a call regarding my Order which was for Srixin Z765 w/ Modus 125X and RTX3 with Modus 125 Wedge.

I didnt realize there were not different flexes to the 125 Wedge Shaft. So my options are just the 125 Wedge or to use the Tour125X. Torn which do to - does the Wedge Flex play similar to a S400 or softer?

If I use the Tour125X wedge shaft, should I put it straight into match irons or softstep it?

Edit: These will be for sand and lob wedges. I will use the Tour125X in the AW regardless since that is a full swing club.

125 Wedge is similar to S200 in feel.

To be completely honest, I'm kinda bummed. I was hitting the ball quite a bit higher and with more spin (not trackman verified, just from experience). I'm a 1 handicap, so i have fairly consistent ball flight windows. I was launching these quite high. I will say that it was a bit windy out though, so i'm hopeful this was a anomaly. I was though also quite disappointed in the feel. Not nearly as smooth as the 130 modus. I was fairly surprised to find the shafts kinda life less...? I may be jumping to conclusions with a small sample size and no on course time. I should be able to say more after my round tomorrow. My first impression though is not what I hoped, i can say that.

I'm surprised to say/admit that I think I liked the S300 shafts that were in the set better than the modus.

How does the Modus 125 compare to the Modus 120 shaft in terms of shaft loading. I know the target flight is a bit higher on the 120s than the 125s. I game 120s and really like them. They work very well with my '99 Hogan Apex blades.

First round completed and i've formally confirmed I'm just a Ctaper guy for life i suppose. Was getting a fairly silly high flight from the 125X shafts in the iblades. The wind didn't impact the flight too much which was really nice. The feel is not what I would have hoped for either though. Think I will be letting them go.

Has me scared to receive mine. How was dispersion and overall distance compared to C-taper?

As to dispersion, it wasn't great, but I'm thinking that is likely more me than the shafts. I'm not sure what the swing weights are, so maybe there is something there. I also don't have my standard grips on the sticks. In general though, it just wasn't good overall. Oddly, i was hitting shots fat, which i rarely if ever do. Not sure what that is all about.

Distance...actually this was ok for me. It wasn't windy today, so the shots i hit reasonably went my expected distances. The ball also held its line fairly well even though the ball was in the clouds most of the day.

Of course everyone's mmv. Your experience is likely not to be mine. I do like the 125 in the wedges and i found them my ch nicer to chip and pitch with than the 130 shafts.

Out of all the modus/nippon offerings, I do like the modus 130x SS. Also the 1150gh x flex.

I had c tapers and bent them twice and said no more. But loved them. I installed some c taper in my buddies clubs, and that 80 shooter shot 3 under with them....probably honey moon and confidence he had playing something new.

The Ctaper bending thing hasn't happened to me, as far as i can tell. That is one reason though that i was hopeful to go all in on the modus line up...Japanese quality. Unfortunately, it appears they just won't quite work for me.

I've got a modus 105 comparison question:

How would they compare with Tour V 110 and Project X LZ 6.0 in terms of spin, launch, and peak height? I had some softstepped Tour V 120x that i liked, but they seemed a little too stiff. Right now I'm in Modus 120x, but I'm kind of undecided on them. Going to give them a little more time, but unsure. I tend to have a fairly high flight. 7I ss 86-89 when I'm swinging it well. Thanks for any info.

Gonna game the iblades again tomorrow. I regripped them and added a bit of swing weight, hoping it helps. I am liking the 125 shaft in the wedge though. Think i might buy two stiff flex shafts for the GW and SW, then move the X flex from the SW to the LW.

Well....i guess the grips and some lead tape has made a pretty big difference for me. I still don't love the feel, but now I'm realizing it could be more the iblade heads (long time mizuno guy). Performance for me this morning has been excellent though. Guess i need to stop jumping to conclusions. Getting new grips i like and the swing weight corrected seems to have made a good difference. Ball flight is a bit high, but not unmanageable. Think i may be in good shape now.

So I've been gaming the 120X in my Apex Pro's for 3 months now and the jury is still out. Went with X b/c of the very soft butt (always played Stiff previously - KBS Tour last year; PX 6.0 before that). I'm an assistant pro and I like to work the ball, but I have a hard time getting these to cut. The miss starts left and draws. Strangely, dispersion is better in the long irons than the short irons. I have a forceful transition, and feel like I might be over-loading them when I swing all out (6 iron swing speed is 88, mid release, quick tempo). As has been reiterated by multiple people throughout this thread, my mishits creep heelward; scarily close to the hosel. Yesterday I had some time to kill at the range, so I tested lie angles on the PW, 8 iron, and 6 iron using both a lie board and a sharpie line (separately). I do all of the club fittings at the club, but I am pretty baffled by the results. I started with the 8 iron, and it was apparent that the heel was catching the board first (indicating they are too upright - which is what I suspected given the ball flight I've been fighting). However, the sharpie line was angled slightly up towards the heel (indicating the lie is too flat!?) With the miss currently being a pull, the last thing I want to do is make them more upright. I then moved to the PW, where contact with the board was more square, but sharpie lines were again angled slightly toward the heel. The 6 iron had by far the most neutral results, with sole grounding out dead center, and sharpie lines pointed straight up and down. Obviously no alteration is needed there, but I am trying to figure out what to do with the short/mid irons (set is currently standard/standard). Any insight/advice/recommendations would be much appreciated. I've attached a picture of the test results.

I think you've selected a shaft that does not work well for your swing. The soft but section can cause all sorts of problems if you do not have a smooth transition. Maybe going to the tour extra stiff would've been a better option than the regular extra stiff. I would work on your tempo and go from there. If you're going to adjust your clubs, I would adjust based on what ball flight is telling you not the impact tape. .

Comes to show that shafts are more about feel than performance. Dialing in the right weight and flex is probably more important than the shaft profile.

Ball flight is still a bit higher than i'm used to, but I'm thinking it may not necessarily be the shaft but the iblade head (compared to my MP-5s). Dispersion was good today (obviously i suppose). Still not a huge fan of the feel but i think it could be that the X (ssx1) is maybe a smidge too stiff for me? Dunno. Anyway, dispersion was quite good. Playing again tomorrow, so will see how it goes.
