Who decides that this tournament is eligible for world ranking points...???

It's a limited field with no cut,,,,,, totally unfair to the rest of the uninvited players........

Agree with you on the points being awarded. This event didn't have points associated until 2009 and it's done predominantly because of the strength of field. It's interesting though that this event gives more points to the winner (46) than last week's Australian Open which only had 34 with a much larger but weaker field on average. The strength of field this week is 275 while the SOF last week was only 175.

The Nedbank Challenge is also this week and it has 38 points available to the winner and has 14 of the top 50 in the field while the HC has all the players in the top 31.

Ahhh....The Tiger haters are back out in full force i see. Complaining about RR points. This field is stronger than the Australian Masters last week and doesn't give an automatic invite to the British Open. Where was the outrage last week?
Well hold on a second. All we hear about is how Woods' 14 are better than Nicklaus' 18 because of depth of field. The fact that Woods never had a Watson, Trevino, Player to have to compete against is supposedly null and void because "any guy can win out there today." But now, the fact that there are top players, but only 30 of them, makes it stronger than a full field event? Are you guys Tiger Woods lovers, or politicians? Talking out of both sides of your mouths.

Shouldn't be points in Sun City, and there shouldn't be points at this. It's the silly season for a reason.

"The Nedbank Golf Challenge became part of The European Tour International Schedule for the first time for the 2014 season and will be the opening event of the 2015 European Tour season."

Feinstein said the same, that any limited field no cut event shouldn't award OWGR points. Personally, I think that's baloney and has simply been used to discredit Tiger's amazing record in the WGCs. That said, even I agree that the Hero World Challenge event gives out too many points, lower it down to 20 to the winner or less, not the current bloated 46 or so.

So much fail in this post. How you draw a conclusion to field strength back in Jack's day compared to Tiger's day based off my comment on field strength for this event compared to last week's event is comical.

Go back and look at the field last week in Australia. Besides Speith, Scott and Rory, there weren't that many top players in the field. Maybe Geoff Ogilvy, John Senden and Brenden DeJonge could be included in that list, but that's a stretch. For heavens sakes you had Amateurs contending last week near the top of the leader board.

Here are the final results from last week. I ask you to click the link and peruse the results and see the quality of the field that was in Australia last week.

Meanwhile here is the list of the guys in Tiger's event:

Zach Johnson

Hunter Mahan

Matt Kuchar

Graeme McDowell

Steve Stricker

Keegan Bradley

Billy Horschel

Chris Kirk

Tiger Woods

Jason Day

Bubba Watson

Rickie Fowler

Jordan Speith

Patrick Reed

Henrick Stenson

Justin Rose

I get why then do it, but I don't like points for no cut events, personally.
I agree. The limited field of players with no cuts should'nt be awarded points.
So WGC Firestone shouldn't award points. The Tour Championship either?

Interesting.......
or the Masters, or any of the invitationals. Memorial, Colonial. The ranking points issue in small field events has nothing to do with Jack vs Tiger and 14 to 18. This is an elite off season event that awards some points based on the field. Will not show as a PGA tour win and certainly not a major win. On the other hand I am sure Jack won some events that had fewer quality opponents in it than does the Hero Challenge!

So now tigers silly season event is being being given equal weight to WGC's?

The defenders of the gaudy amount of points being handed out have asserted that objecting to it, of course, = Tiger "hate". I think we've seen enough from these usual suspects to justify a counter argument that their undying love and admiration prevents them from reasonably considering basic facts and determine in an unbiased way that, were this hosted by ANY other player, 46 Points would have them screaming "thats ridiculous"

WGC Events give out 100 points, so i'm now sure how you draw the conclusion of a silly season event being given "equal weight"

Your next point is.......?

tim and the pga tour make the decisions. but its tigers fault...for all of the no cut, invitational and limited field events that have been played since the 1930s. and shame on augusta for ruining the game too

Justin Rose

The defense rests your honor.

When it's convenient, amateurs contending represent "just how many good players there are", and when it's not.... I seem to recall one of the guys on your list finishing 4th as an amateur at the Open championship. So that must have been a crappy event that year.

Either there are so many guys out there who can play today that it's tougher to win, which means winning an event with a 156 players is much tougher than winning one with 18, or the quality of the top players in a field trumps the numbers. The Woods fanboys have used the first argument all these years in order to prop up 14 vs 18. If that's the argument that will be used, then fine, just don't then turn around and say a field with 18 players, regardless of who they are, is better than a field of 156.

Who decides that this tournament is eligible for world ranking points...???

It's a limited field with no cut,,,,,, totally unfair to the rest of the uninvited players........

Totally agree. All of them. Just personal preference.

I seem to recall Jack saying he could basically mark off every player in a field and get the # down to about 10-15 guys he had to actually beat each week. Those fields were 156 man fields as far as i know.

Perhaps someone who has a better memory or knows the actual quote can find it for us. Also, my sincere apologies if i am way off base w/ my recollection of the quote.
