My swing is certainly not in mid season form, but I think I've noticed the left side miss here and there with the Blue.  Maybe I should test a black 6S.

If that's happening I'd definitely try the Black.  Much stiff in the butt section.  Soft butt shafts always give me a little more speed but dispersion isn't as good.

I really do too, if they come out with the Glide 3.0 in stealth/raw finish I'll probably stay with those since I like the Project X LZ and those are like $40 upcharges from Callaway.

Those would be nice.  Not sure Ping will do that though

Update:

Played last week just before we got hit with some snow so small update.

Hit the TSI2 on almost every tee and results were very similar to round 1.  It wasn't a money game but more of a casual round hence using it on most tee's.  Spin and flight was higher than my Mav SZ and the TSI2 is maybe 10yds shorter off the tee.  Off the deck it's probably a good 10 yds longer because i'm hitting it so much higher (which i love).  Keep in mind my SZ is setup with heavy weight forward and it's 13.5 not 15*.  Off the deck the Tsi2 is light years better for me (even when the heavy weight is back in the SZ).  Loft surely plays a factor but i love the flat face of the Tsi2.  Just looks easy to hit plus it has a deeper face.  Everything about it makes me feel confident in my next shot.

Overall the TSI2 is a great stick and will probably be a permanent fixture in my bag.  Winter is here so testing will be sporadic but I've seen enough to tell me it's a great fit for what i'm currently looking for.

I'll drop this in the thread as i got asked by a few people via PM.

Question (give or take a few words) - So is the TSi2 in the bag

Answer : Yes.  Of course i'll have to test the new stuff coming out in a few months but as of now the Tsi2 is a better, more versatile club for my than what i'm playing.  I'm also continuing down this new path for how i set my bag meaning a new toy might be ordered soon 🤪

  • 3 weeks later...

New Toys arrived just in time.  Great weather this week to do some testing 😎

Mav pro #2 / Fujikura Ventus Black 9TX

I’ve had tremendous success this year with my Cally Mav pro 20* hybrid as a 3iron replacement but it’s not long enough off the tee so I figured lets try the 18* in place of a 5 wood.

My thinking: I tend to come from in to out a little too much so this should be a more accurate option compared to a 5 wood.  Shorter club should = tighter dispersion

Cally Xforged UT / Mitsu MMT 105TX

Love the new profile and minimal offset.  Maybe the best looking utility iron Ive seen.  Purpose:  4 iron replacement.  It’s bent to 22* so I’m thinking this will take place of my current UT or I bend the current UT to 24/25* and have it replace my 5 iron.  Not sure yet but I do know the UT’s are much more forgiving then a standard players CB.

  • J13 changed the title to J13's - WITB- A few new toys for January

Nice! I fiddled with a Mav Pro 18* with DI-85X this past fall. Nothing lacked about the performance at all, in fact it was a howitzer. However, the shape was just a little too round to suit my eye. Same reason I can't play the PM wedge, too many curves and lines on the face of different lengths. Trying to overcome the visual distractions made even that considerable amount of juice not worth the squeeze for me. I've found the shape of the '21 Apex Pro hybrid to be much better aligned to my quirks and hang-ups, so will be curious to see how others receive it.

This iteration of the UT concept is nasty, and agree that it may be Callaway's best yet. Had they been available in a lower loft than 24, I probably would have opted for them in my 3-5 instead of the '21 Apex Pro.

Usually i like a squared toe look but something about the Mav Pro just looks great to me.  I really like the onset look of the face and with a few grams of hotmelt in the toe it's very anti left (especially with ventus black).

The UT is incredible, they got it right.  The icing on the cake would be if they offered cavity weights for purchase.  Fingers crossed

Sounds good.  Will tune in.  I literally went through the entire store looking at long irons and driving irons in this slot.  I first go off looks.  I picked the X forged UT hands down as the best looking driving iron at address.  And I also threw in there in there the mp20 HMB, the MMC, and ping i500.  I went home with the i500 as it was somehow more consistent.  But the callaway UT for very close (excellent) as well.  I think the difference was the callaway had a cheap graphite shaft in it.  But I may get one anyways.  Looking forward to it...

Yes! Didnt like that smoke shaft at all.  Would definitely go with the 105TX MMT to start or shaft it with a ventus 9tx or 10tx or tensei white 100TX.   Maybe a 105 gram steel shaft... Toying with those now....but will see what happens here with J13!

@Deuce78 Yeah the UT profile is superb.  LOVE the lack of offset.  Just looks super clean from the top so i hope it works out well.

@bcflyguy1 Yep.  Most don't know but you can order the MMT at no upcharge.  For me it was an easy choice as i'm already playing the MMT's.  Right now my UT with 105TX is at D6.

Testing : Just a reminder but my process is take everything to the course as is then make my adjustments.  Sometimes you get lucky and don't have to mess with anything.

UT - D6 SW, might need to grab a lighter weight - can i do that?  Don't know lol

Mav Pro - D3 sw so i'm thinking this will be good as is as I already had it bent.

Hybrid 9X. I see yours is a TX but what I was really getting at is it feels a lot like the old 904HB.

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

Gotcha and agree it does just a little tighter.

Update:

Stopped to hit some balls and I like what i'm seeing out of both clubs.  Distance was impossible to tell as it's 40* outside and i'm just hitting range balls but I should have both on course later today.  I have to say the Mavrik Pro hybrid is insane and such a sleeper.  The onset it has just screams workability which is rare for a hybrid.  If you haven't tried one and looking for a hybrid do yourself a favor and try it.

Yes, my 10TX and 9TX are both tipped 1/2".  My grip of choice is starndard GP Tour velvet Plus 4.

Side note: Have some rounds coming up so I can see how things perform where it matters, the golf course.

Good question: It's hard to compare iron shafts vs wood shafts but i'll do my best.  They're both cut from the same cloth in terms of how they behave for me. Both hold up to speed and whatever you can throw at them.  The Ventus Black 10TX is stout and probably less playable for people than MMT 125TX.  Ventus has a little more of an active feel to it but it's also physically longer so hard to say if that's why or just the profile.   Spin wise the MMT is designed to maintain spin while the Black's goal is to keep spin on the lower side.  MMT 125TX sounds stout because of the TX moniker but they aren't telephone poles and very playable for most people who try my irons that don't have the same speed.  Again keep in mind my "speed" is around 116'ish give or take a few mph on course so it's not like i'm some gorilla with 130mph swing speed.

PSA: writing this before my morning coffee so it might not make sense.  😬

Do you have any full blown driver shootout style testing planned for 2021, or thinking more of these one-on-one type comparisons?

I passed my G400 LST on to a friend, and now I'm in driver no man's land.  I tried a G410 LST, but as much as I wanted to like it, the consistency was not there.  I think the head was just too heavy.  Even a CB shaft didn't help.  I tried it with a Ventus Blue 6s, and my Fubuki J 50x, but neither gave me what I was looking for.

I think once we get a decent weather day, I need to find a spot where I can hit the new stuff outdoors, and take it on the course.  I'm really intrigued by the TSi line.

As of now I don't have any plans for a shootout style testing.  Because I prefer testing on course, it's hard to test more than 2-3 heads at a time.  You can only stand on a tee box swapping shafts and settings for so long before groups catch up to you haha.  The G400LST was a great stick but I've seen the opposite.  The 410LST was more stable for me and seemed to spin a shade more.  Also remember you can always swap a lighter rear weight to bring swing weight down. I usually do that with all of my Ping heads so I can add melt and get my desired swing weight.  I haven't gotten the TSI3 driver on course yet but look forward to it.

SIM 2 Max is a good stick but seems a little more draw bias than SIM Max.  One thing i wish TM did was make the drivers flatter in lie angle or at least the ability to make it flatter.

Curious what the out of the box head weights were for both SIM 2 and SIM 2 Max. I've heard the head weights are coming in a bit light.

TM needs to come out with a tour sleeve that goes flatter with any adjustment.  Currently any adjustment from standard goes more upright.  I dont think anyone uses the upright lie on those heads....

agree.  The heads are crazy upright already, I can't imagine anyone going more upright.  I'm not NBA tall but i'm 6'2 and they are too upright for me in a stock setup.
