J13's WITB: Update- FUJIKURA AXIOM

Recommended Posts

Picked up a dozen XV's and so far so good. Been playing with the tp5x and really want to like it but the high flight and low spin in the short irons means i get 3 or so shots a round which I catch the "flyer" characteristics and fly my target by 20 yards. Not good.

ER still in the bag?

Nope, in the BST. Weight wasn't right and when it comes down to it I just putt better with blades. Played a 9 hole round the other day and tied my low score of -5 (31) with my Odyssey Protype 2.

Anyone who needs less spin will love it but im' someone who needs more spin with irons. Glad to hear it's working out for you so far.

Interestingly I'm one who needs less spin on most clubs. Just the combination of not being able to flight down the tp5x consistently with short irons and the less spin just creates that dreaded shot a few times a round. XV seems pretty similar with a tad more spin with short irons but I'm able to keep the trajectory down and fly the ball to my intended number much better.

So far I have 2 rounds with the XV and haven't had any of those shots. I consistently had 2-4 shots a round with the tp5x that flew 15 or more yards further than expected.

Not being able to keep irons especially wedges down was a big problem for me. In terms of OTR balls the TM TP5 was GREAT in this area. Better then the XV and maybe better then any other ball on the market. If I had to switch balls it would be the TP5 in the bag. I will be testing it more as the summer goes but the short game control is outstanding.

The TP5 was definitely better than the X from 120 to around the greens, I just battled with how high it went off the other clubs, launching 7 irons into the stratosphere is fun an all until you're playing coastal golf. It does feel awesome off the putter though...

Any other putters up for testing or is the protype staying?

I didn't have the high ball problem with the TP5 like the Tp5x hmm. The Srixon XV just seems to be a perfect blend for me and for what you can buy them for on sale it's the best ball on the market pound for pound.

Putters - EvnRoll ER6 didn't make it and is in the BST, tried a Scotty Cameron Futura 6M, Odyssey 7, and a few others that just don't work for me. The conclusion i've come to is i need to play a blade not a mallet. With blades i think my speed is much better, I make more 1 putts, and my line is almost always better. I'm sure we could slice and dice it to figure out why but i don't care that much :D So needless to say all future testing will be done with blades. For now i'm in the middle of my Club Championship so im holding off on testing unless it's conclusion in 2 weeks. Putters on the radar are 2 SC's and the newer slant neck Odysseys coming soon. :pimp:

I seem to be the only one with the TP5 going high problem from what I've read, so pay no attention to me :D I might just have to give it another shot...

Definitely hold off on the putter testing if you are in the middle of club champs! Good luck!

I've always enjoyed the blade style putters more, they just set up better to my eye. Would any of those slant neck Odysseys be of the Toulon variety? They make some classy looking putters that I'd love to try...

I saw you tried the Odyssey Toe up #1. I think I read once that you picked one up in a shop to roll one and you litteraly chunked the putt and put it right down.

I could be wrong, but if not, what made you give it another go? I've often been tempted, but have yet to try one on the course.

That is correct. What made me try one again was my stroke changed and rolled a used one in a shop and loved the balance and feel. I didn't have the same issue but the hosel attachment just gets in the way of my eye line and the face is hot. Speed was always off with it as it is with most 'grooved' faces. I know a normal faced putter skids the ball a bit but maybe that's not a bad thing for people?

Ping G400 LST (mini review)

Hit the Ping G400 LST 8.5* head today with the Tour X shaft.

Sound - Much much better then anything Ping has made

Feel - Same, great feel

Distance - Great distance it was almost keeping up with my Epic SZ

SS - Was getting about 1mph more SS over the EPic

BallSpeed - Was still getting around 2mph more ball speed with Epic

Overall Ping hit a home run with these but not sure they will overtake the Epic tidal wave. Ping fixed the sound and feel after years of auditory abuse on us poor golfers. The LST was keeping up with the Epic and seemed just as forgiving in a slightly smaller package which is impressive. Overall I doubt it will be taking the place of my Epic SZ as carry / total distance has remained unbeatable. If your in the market for a driver do yourself a favor and put it on the short list. Honestly if your testing drivers I would grab the Epic's, M series, and ping. Leave everything else on the shelf as they won't hold a candle. ;)

Actually always had both just preferred the GBB until the GD TP shaft went south on me. Been back to the SZ / Agera for a month or so. Better combo for me on the off days.

Ping did a great job and anyone in the market for a driver should test it. I'm glad they finally got the sound under control.

How's the epic hybrid?

Love it. A true replacement for the 815 hybrid. Not sure I'll switch because I really like the 815 but Callaway did a great job with it. It's a little longer loft for loft which may or may not be a good thing depending on who your are and what you want.

Totally agree with the g400lst assessment but I don't know if I can drop the coin when I have a epic sz with elements chrome and m1 with hzrdus yellow as it is and the m1 has been a bomber for me

Narrowed it down to the short slant neck / Flow neck blades. Testing underway :D

So first money game in this little experiment and it's all but over. Been playing with the Scottyu Cameron Circa 62 and although I like it I haven't been putting any better. So after messing around I decided to play the Tour issue Odyssey Versa 6 and proceeded take the cash and shoot a -6 (66) in the process. I even left 4 putts dead in the heart about 3" short so I could have gone lower. Hit almost all of my lines and speed was pretty good considering the greens were a little slower due to rain. Can't say I'm not going to test the others but I was 2 off the course record and this was the first time I ever touched the putter. Happy days are here again :D

BTW in the picture is

Thanks. It was especially nice since I've been playing like a dog. Never know when something just clicks. Golf is a funny game.
