It doesn't expand nearly as much as that

Ive tried it on a putter, its ok but the bond is sensitive and it gets really hard and it does expand a lot.

I used it on a 7 iron for s and g's, head came loose after 5 swings

I wouldn't use gorilla epoxy either. There is no data sheet so you have no idea how strong the stuff is and what working temperature it will tolerate. It's most likely okay, but why take chances?

Agreed. What epoxy do you use?

There is, and it's 180°, 3300psi tensile. Easily on par with tour epoxy.

Holds as good, or better, than PING's factory epoxy -- fyi...

Some do not like it's viscosity, but I've mixed up a few, and if you mix properly, it gets nice and workable. Sets up nicely.

Gorilla epoxy is better than Brampton 5-10 min stuff....I have used alot of different epoxies and only ones I have issue with is Brampton 5/10....so I think most epoxies are pretty good...it's not as critical as some may think.....certainly don't need a data sheet to get some decent stuff

Loctite stuff is good....usually the longer the set time the better and you can use heat to speed up the set time....I use 24hr stuff and heat it....ready in 30 min to an hour

The GolfWorks Maximum Strength Quick Set Epoxy

Recommended By The GolfWorks Staff!
The GolfWorks Maximum Strength Quick Set Epoxy is the strongest “5 minute” epoxy available, specifically formulated for metal wood and iron club assembly. Standard “5 minute” epoxies are only recommended for putter assembly and temporary emergency repairs. With a full cure lap shear strength of 2900 psi and a usable cure time of 15-30 minutes, the Maximum Strength Quick Set eliminates the need for unreliable one part cyanoacrylate adhesives and is much more reliable than standard “5 minute” shafting epoxies with average lap shear strengths of 1500 psi. Maximum Strength Quick Set is black in color with a mix ratio of 1:1. Thumb plunger for dispersion is included with 50ml cartridges.

Do you have a link to a datasheet? I looked but couldn't find one.

For golf clubs you want to look at the lap shear numbers. Tensile strength numbers are always higher. 3300psi lap shear would be good.

I looked because I thought I did have one, at one point, and so I wrote them to see if maybe it was a figment of my imagination that I had one stored on a HDD somewhere. We will see if they have one formally, or not.

All that being said, I shafted up an 8i with it. Not sure on 8i swingspeed numbers, but my 6i is usually 94-99mph. Never moved, never waivered. I'm steep to the ball, and a hitter. Take pretty good divots. Bend C-Taper shafts at the hosel. It stayed put for 6 months until I reshafted all the heads with new shafts. The 8i took about 10 seconds more with the electric heat gun than the other heads what were epoxied in with Tour Set.

Very unscientific, but quite honestly, if it held an iron head in with my crappy, fast and violent swing, it's probably adequate for a large population of folks.

I've since used it on a driver shaft in a SLDR setup, and it holds that together too. 112-119mph driver swing.

Only thing I do not like is that it says it's only water resistant, and not for submersion. Not sure if the tour stuff is waterproof, but I only use the Gorilla stuff in a pinch.

Ping's are tricky to reshaft. There is a lot of clearance between the hosel and the shaft, except at the bottom of the hosel (tip of the shaft) where you have to drive the shaft down onto the head to get it to seat. I've done a bunch of Ping reshafts and creaking noise is very common. You want to use high strength epoxy that's reasonably thick. Runny epoxy is not recommended. I use 3M DP420 or DP460. It has a lap shear strength of 4500psi and is medium thick.

I have a buddy that uses the Gorilla epoxy and it works fine. I use some 3M stuff that beats anything Golfworks sells. I get it from a top 100 clubfitter down the road.

In my job I deal with various polyesters and epoxies. There is no doubt that you can purchase epoxies that are technically better than shafting epoxy in terms of strength..

That said, shafting epoxy is dirt cheap and made for this specific purpose and using another epoxy is both uneeded and not worth it. What is better? If an epoxy has a higher strength or heat resistance than what is needed to shaft and unshaft safely, then is it really better for the purpose? We use the strongest glues necessary for our purpose, using something stronger is a moot point. Why would you not also consider shaft removal when building clubs? It isn't like heads are flying off all the clubs I have shafted using that purpose specific epoxy, and again, it is dirt cheap as far as epoxies go so if price is not an issue, and strength is not an issue, what is the point of using something else?

Most so called "shafting epoxy" is just common epoxy. You need to go into some special grades before heat breakdown issues arise. If anything run of the mill epoxy will break down too easily. There are stories about people leaving their clubs in the car only to have the head fall off at a later time. I don't like blaming heat but some epoxies significantly weaken at only 150F, and that's a common temp inside a car on a hot day.
