FG59’s feel more solid and have a more dense sensation at impact

Tour Blade still felt amazing though, surprisingly long and forgiving

The difference in feel is a lot due to the difference in the muscle shape. With a true muscle shape like the FG-59 you are going to get a more solid (or dense) feel.

Same thing goes with the feel of my mp67s cut muscle vs the feel of, say, mp33s with a solid (uncut) muscle - the mp33s feel more solid than my mp67s.

Before my round yesterday as I was heading out to the #1 tee, a guy finishing on #18 passed me and said, "Hey, nice irons." He then pointed to his bag and his Miura MC-501s in them. They were new and beautiful. We chatted for a min regarding how nice Miura steel feels and that it's always a rare treat to see a fellow Miura owner out in the wild. Although the MCs aren't quite a full blade they were still a beautiful club.

Except for a couple rounds with my TW282 Rams and TG-898 Rams, been playing my MP37s this year. I'd played this past Tuesday and realized I prefer looking down at the Ram Tour Grinds. Obviously not a huge revelation, I've been playing various Ram models for most of the last 19 years.

Decided to put my 1980 Golden Rams in the bag for my round yesterday. 2-PW, with my Wilson PMP 58* as the SW. This set is similar to my TW282 in that I'd had them set with weak lofts, essentially one club weaker than my MP37s across the board. Makes clubbing pretty easy. LOL

I found that not only did I prefer looking at the Ram profile, I hit them better. One could chalk it up to Small Sample Size Theater, though I had a similar experience when taking my 898s on course, even with the SPB shafts that aren't quite a good fit any longer. Think I'll keep Rams in the bag for a while longer.

Got out today, 42/42 for 84. very inconsistent with wedge around greens, did have some blow up holes but good part was I found sweet spot of driver again after a year or so. Changed to an MSI 130 white shaft a few weeks ago, but days ago tweaked it with 6 grams of lead tape wrapped around ferrule and notched up to 10.5* on loft. Made all the difference. Have not seen land spots like those in 2 years with such confidence. Pretty much forgot how sweet feeling and sounding my Mizuno Type 1 can be.

Just got done playing nine with my satin BBs. Shot 42. I had best intentions of playing 18 but 20 mph wind and rain drove me to stop at the turn. I started out great with a chip in for birdie on #1 and then on #4 (a par 3) I hit a pure 6i 145 yds into the wind. Felt soooo good. ?

img-20200607-144812651.jpgPer the pic it landed perfectly pin high 5 ft right, and all you blade users know from experience that they check up better than any CB, so you can see the 2 ft roll out. I made the putt too! ?

To finish the nine I went double bogey over the last four holes. My driver was all over the place in the wind. ?

My quest for new(ish) irons continues... Came close to some 716MB's on a local facebook group, but someone pipped me at the end.

Not that it matters, can only hit the range at the moment

I might be joining you guys on the blade band wagon. I have been struggling with dispersion of my irons over the last year. Went to my local golf shop and was hitting some irons and talking to the owner, then he asked if I had hit the Wilson Staff Blade......HOLY S**! I was hitting it farther than my Ping i210s and with better swing path and tighter dispersion. It was eye opening!!

MP33 was my 2nd set of blades which I bought back in 2001. Found another cheap set on CG and played 2 back 9's. Same high ball flight and soft feel. I was surprised how it flew as long as my Srixon Z Forged. Supposedly there's a 3 degrees difference but distance was almost the same. Not sure what it is but put them back in the bag for good. I've tried many other sets with a lot of shaft combinations and I was amazed how an old classic like S300 still delivers.

It's really great to see the continual additions of blade converts to this thread. Spoiler alert: there's nothing in the design of a blade that makes it penalizing to a golfer's game, at any skill level. They are simply the best design (again for all skill levels) for striking the ball cleanly and with consistent spin. The clean strikes come from having that thin, low bounce sole and sharp leading edge. And the consistent spin comes from having that thick and sturdy muscle that is a consistent surface onto which the ball consistently compresses against. Spoiler alert: one can think of the entire blade muscle as the "sweetspot". The notion that a blade has a teeny tiny sweetspot that only the best ball strikers can hit is ludicrous. The science behind the muscle design says completely otherwise.

LOL in my professional opinion only. ?

image-2.jpegPicked up this bad boy the other day - so now I have two. How could I turn it down for a penny + shipping? Still had the original sticker on it too - 11,900yen or like $120. I'm sure they could get enough people to pay $300-$400 nowadays. It is as it says, exquisitely crafted. It has a subtle curve in the in the back flange that seems to make it a little forgiving. I've used the same old Odyssey white hot for decades now and this might get a chance one day.

So I was experimenting a bit with my S.P.B. shafted Maruman's. The Nippon shaft is a different animal in terms of optimal swing tempo. Requires smoother transition to take full advantage. High SW of heads are a factor in that too. If I switch to Sanka, I'll drop these in play, till then, Rifle 7.5 is da bomb.

Playing tomorrow, made a tweak in setup that simplifies things & hope it helps clean out some garbage play of late.

Was looking for this thread the other day... I'm on the path of getting some blades... Probably going to pick up a sub70 combo set of CBs and MBs... just got my 5 iron CB and like it alot... I think I am going to go 8-PW in the MB and see how it goes... I figure it's $350ish for the three blades, so I can get into CBs if I want to later...

S400 shafts and it will be my first ever NEW set of irons in 20+ years of golf.

Kudos to you, choosing to embark on a blades journey especially after so many years. You are making the right choice. ?

If you find those three blades just fine for you to hit (spoiler alert: because of their superior technology they will be at least equally easy if not even easier than any "forgiving" clubs), note that that very same reason applies to ALL irons. The superior technology of blades doesn't change one bit as you go to the longer ones. It's the same advantage across the set. What makes the PW - 8i great to hit applies just as much to 9i - 3i. And skill level is irrelevant here too.

When I first embarked on my blades journey I bought a full set (PW - 3i) of mp67s but then *just in case* I bought a full set of mp60s for their supposed "forgiveness" with the exact same shafts and specs as the mp67s. No matter how many rounds I played between the two sets, I always shot my best with the blades. On my bad days it really didn't matter what I played, but when I played well, it was always with my blades. It was eye opening for sure and drove me to analyze the true physics and ignore the carney sham(e) of "forgiveness" as advertised for profit.

But that's just me and most other blade users. ?

And welcome to the light!

LOL, yes. You will see. ? -> ?

Since you're not comparing the exact same number with all other things equal, remember to take into account possible relative loft and weight differences as well...lest they convolute any of your conclusions.

BTW your post drove me to analyze the Sub 70 699s. They are beautiful and I mean this in terms of design and aesthetics.

70 off the blacks at Harbor Town on Top Tracer at my range today. Swinging well. Took along Yamaha SX25 Hal Sutton Grinds with S400U shafts and Sounder SBIV with what I think are also S400. Love the feel of the Sutton Grinds. So solid. They might not be everyone's taste with the sharp square toe. Maybe the prettiest long irons I have seen though, just very unforgiving. The Sounders are kind of long heel to toe, but they are so easy to hit.

Harbor Town is a cool track. If you are hitting it straight and your irons are the right distances, it's not all that difficult (online). I'd love to get there one day in real life. I think playing the Top Tracer can translate well onto a real course - the way I struck it today felt like low 70s :)
