Trying these out on Sunday. Shafted them up with $ tapers. Lofts are extremely strong. Price was decent and they have some interesting attributes

I see a quite a bit of JBeam stuff for sale in the local golf shop, but it's nearly all drivers, fairway woods, and hybrids. I've seen the odd wedge here and there, but NEVER any irons, at least certainly not blades.

Interesting look. Kind of a squat, compact head. Nice find👍

Wow, I’m surprised the long irons on those TMs are hollow and foam filled. I had assumed that is a recent thing.

They never really grabbed the market. I remember at the time being a bit putt off by the thicker bodies of the hollow long irons compared to the other irons, especially when hitting off the deck. They were good for tee shots though, so you can see where the idea for driving irons came. They were definitely ahead of their time, and I'm really quite happy to have these back in the fold.

Happy New Year everyone!

Finally playing some decent golf after todays round and of course I do it before I go back to work... The rest of the golf has been so bad...

Been adding a soft satin finish to my irons, really liking it but I'm doing it by hand so it's taking awhile... Will get some pics up tomorrow.

What are you using to produce the satin finish, and how long does it take per head?

Yeah, I've only seen 1 driver in the wild, outside of that, I never see them. Today, I had 2 of their wedges, and 4-P in play. Ive had the 50°/56° in play for a few weeks. After today, these irons will be in the bag a bit longer. They're rivaling my Masda fast blades, in pretty much every category. I'll mess around with them again next Sunday to make sure this isn't a fluke honeymoon, but they were exceptional today.

100grit sandpaper and its about 10mins per head. I went with the smoother 100grit which I'm glad I did, gives it a nice soft satin finish and reduces the glare which is pretty much what I was after. Next step is to remove the paintfill and either leave it blank or possibly a white or soft grey paintfill...

I like that soft satin more. I've wondered about doing it with a wedge or two, but I wanted to find out what I was letting myself in for!

I practiced on my gap wedge before I moved to the irons 😆 The Vokey chrome is hardy stuff... But it's pretty simple, just go in one direction for a couple of passes with good pressure and you're sorted.

But I am liking the way its come out, it's a nice soft satin but it reduces the glare a huge amount... will try get a better pic on the course this weekend.

Yes, I don't like an over the top satin look, but that slightly satiny, glossy look is jus right. I've a couple of wedges which are a bit too shiny for me, and that satin look is just what I'm after. Thanks for the explanation.

My main set recently has been Blueprints 6-PW. I love them and will add at least a 5 iron if I can find one at a decent price. I had been using 945s, which I also really enjoyed, but I sold them to fund the BP purchase. I recently wanted a backup set of blades (of course) so I bought a set of mp32s in 3-PW.  They seem to be in average condition but were really cheap.  They will arrive soon.

The 32s have the original S300 shafts, which I will try but don’t expect to enjoy much. A few years ago I picked up a set with R300s that did not suit me. So I am going to try a shaft experiment and would like some advice. The two spare shafts that I have around the house are XP 115 S300 and the KBS Tour 120. I’m going to compare the 5, 6, 7 irons with the S300, XP 115 and the KBS Tour.

My question is do you think my preference for any of these shafts will depend on which of the irons I put them in? So if I have a strong preference for the XP after playing it in the 7 iron, do you think my opinion would have been different if I had put it in the 5?  I generally feel fairly confident with my mid irons including the 5. Or would it be a better experiment to try each shaft in the same head over the course of several days? The problem there is that my fickle swing can turn evil on a moment’s notice so results on day 3 could be inaccurate because my swing decided to misbehave that day. If you were doing this as a one-day test, which shaft would you put in each head 5-7?  Thanks

I'm probably not a good source for ideas as I rather like DGS.  I'm only switching away from it to go graphite before I'm absolutely forced to.

My experience is best test for a shaft is 500-1000 balls. Shafts pull. They might be right or wrong but spending time, allowing "the pull" to happen is best answer. Go with #5i. The seven is flat out easiest club in the bag.

If you don’t mind, please expand on “the pull” concept.

You swing to a shaft, the shaft is what it is. You meld and change to it. Obviously it ought to be compatible but no matter, you move to it and it never moves to you. Issues of transition speed, amplitude and tempo are affected sometimes for better sometimes for worse. Once tested an "X" shaft, thought, 'my gosh this is awful', swung them for a month, swing adjusted, started doing better things, now I love them and credit them with improved mechanics, greater distance and dispersion. Most valuable tweaking I've done is figure out gross weight, SW and profile that I am comfortable in. Tough part is answer does not come in a day.

Thanks for the explanation. If that shaft you tested had been a regular flex, would your swing have adjusted over 1K swings and would you now say that you love regular flex? Or if it just isn’t right for you, you won’t ever adjust to it and you won’t hit it consistently well?

Oh my days what a set!! I have been on the hunt for a smaller profile head with stronger lofts this might just fit the bill.

How do you like them so far? Could you share any pics of the PW if possible please?

I was at 118g shafts for 15 years, I went to 132g and enjoyed renewed dispersion and distance gain. So it seems there is an envelope, a window where one is happy and yeah it's possible to be wrong for a long time too, lol. My intuition says that swing tempo and rhythm are key parameter, a base to jump off from but from there you may go either way. I found that watching cluster of impact is a solid way to score things. Major point is it does take strikes to find happiness. Faldo used same exact shafts for 11 seasons in his prime. Changed the heads, kept the shafts. Says a lot.

They look awesome jonesy. Going for a Honma satin? Or a FH1000 satin?

Thanks @Kingcat990! I reckon it's closer to an FH1000 kind of satin, a lighter satin finish. It's just enough to reduce glare but still has a "gloss" to it.

Just picked these up for a great price as my backups. Range time is not super friendly to my Miuras so I don’t want to wear them out.

Might do the satin treatment you’ve done! Do you think the 100grit is preferable to scotchbrite pads? That’s the technique I’ve seen most use.

Always liked the looks of those! Great purchase!

Honestly I think they would give the same finish, I found the sandpaper to give a result faster than the pads with less effort (or the equivalent here in SA at least) so I'd go with that option.
