Had a great range session today, best in years. The fix? Complete the shoulder turn, that's it. Guess I was leaving something on the table..Even the #3i was decent. Get deep with shoulders, get shallow & in front with arms. Kapow!

 

Starting to swing with some real discipline of the hips too and that makes going deep on upper turn easier to manage. My M.O. was crash hip into ball line, flatten shoulder then get arms way behind, extend & flip my way to impact. Was not today, nor was I struggling with good path face on longer clubs. Wasn't even tired or sore after 120. I'll probably have 4 doubles tomorrow anyway, but today was fun.

The ones that always catch my eye are the Srixon and Wilson blades. But I haven’t hit either. I am curious if anyone has experience with the current Ben Hogan Icon blades. They look great and I did like the PTxPro irons when I demoed them a few years back. At $865 for 4-P it’s hard to beat the price. Someone is selling a full bag of current Hogan clubs on the BST for $1500.

I have not but they are near knockoff's to '99 Apex. Carried those for several years, really great irons.

Of the current blades out on the market, does anyone know which model(s) have the highest VCOG? Shallower player that can hit the ball to the moon and looking for something to help bring my peak height down. Current in T100s's bent 1 degree weak and unfortunately they launch a good bit higher than my wedges, 2 iron, 3 wood and driver.

Probably the TM P7MB, they check in at .864".  The P7TW are .865", but that's just noise IMHO.  

 

The Callaway blades with the weight are .832 range, I believe.

 

If you're willing to look a bit older than current, the old Hogan Ft Worth 15 blades, from the "new" Hogan, are over .900".  Highest I've seen in recent blades.

Hi KingTitus. I have a pretty shallow swing and have put the Callaway Apex MB's in the bag due to the narrow sole. I have had them in the bag for a few months now and they are working out superbly.

I would also be tempted to put a set of Blueprints into the bag as well.

I have to admit not being too overly bothered with the look with the screw in the back but at address they fit my eye perfectly

Anyone have pics of MP-32s in raw finish?  I have a set that is somewhat dinged up and am thinking of making them raw, but I love how they look and want to be sure it's what I want to do.  Thanks.

Old Nikes got a well-earned retirement, when new clubs arrived last month:

 

 

They are +0.5 inches and +1 upright and i have to say they are frigging great clubs.

I've been noticing recently the weight of my MP37 set with Recoil 125 has-been affecting me towards the end of rounds.  Decided to drop back to my Golden Rams with NV105 shafts, see if it made a difference.

 

And it has, but in more ways than the above.  The first thing that was obvious was that I'd been dragging/pulling the shafts through the swing.  Making the same effort with the NV shafts had me pulling the club through faster and missing left.  A few rounds later, that effect is no longer in play.

 

Other interesting side effects...  the shafts are slightly softer, but my dispersion is actually better.  I've hit several shots from 150 yard range to within 10 feet, a couple to tap in range.  I've also been hitting these slightly farther than the MP37s, in spite of them being 2* weaker lofted in 4-pw.  Find that interesting.

 

Been playing our white tee boxes primarily this year, but recently have played the blue tees.  They're approximately 400 yds longer, and are worth about 3 shots difference.  With the iron change, I've put up a couple of good scores, shaving a full stroke off my index, in spite of the mistakes I've been making in the latter holes.  Was 2-over thru 14 holes Friday, finished bogey-bogey-par-double; yesterday was 1-under thru 10 only to go 7-over in those last 8 holes.  Oh well.

 

By saying that, I've probably just cursed myself to a poor round today, right?  LOL

 

Maybe it's not the shafts, but the return to the glory of Ram Tour Grinds?  🤔 😁

I've been getting back into long irons recently, and am in the middle of an experiment of sorts. I've a RAM TW Grind 1i that has a Dynamic Regular shaft in it. Now, it plays OK, but the shaft's a bit short for a 1i (39.25" or so), and the grip wasn't properly installed, so the butt of the shaft is not flush with the butt of the grip.

 

I recently picked up a Mac Muirfield 20th 2i head only, and decided to pull the shaft from the RAM 1i, trim the tip slightly, and put it in the 2i head. I've tested it out in the 2i socket, and reckon I can take off about a quarter to a third of an inch and still have it fit in the neck, and it should produce a 2i playing at about 39.25", which isn't long, but will fit in well with the 3i from the Muirfield 20th set (which is 38.5" if I'm being generous).

 

I reckon it should make it easy to elevate, while still providing enough heft. Hopefully have this finished by next week. Haven't taken pics of the 2i head yet, but it's Baby Blade levels of "compact."

 

Not sure what to do with the 1i head. I might go with a steel shaft, but I'm quite tempted to put in a carbon shaft to make a "bomber". Really like the shape of the 1i head, and want to play it with my persimmon and modern sets.

First round in the books with my Apex MB 21’s with LA Golf L series shafts and I am far from disappointed. Dispersion, spin and peak height were right where I was hoping. Nothing better than being 215 out on a par 5 and flushing a 5 iron to 8 feet. @craz-e I appreciate your input. These heads are amazing.

They're crazy easy to hit. I don't understand it. The ball speed I get is consistently through the roof.

Favorite part with them today was the fact that I pulled 2 shots about 20 yards left of my target and they still carried the perfect number. Made getting up and down easy. So happy with them

Put the 2i in play yesterday during a 9-hole persimmon and blades round. Hit it twice, both times off the deck. First time I got it a little heavy, but with roll out it still went about 180 yards, which was fine because I was laying up on a par 5. Second time, I caught it flush and it went dead straight for about 210~215 yards, which I was pretty pleased with because it was slightly uphill (not a lot, but whatever slope there was may have killed the rollout, because I got very little run).

Speaking of yesterday's round, what do you make of this hole?

 

It's a par 4, playing 370-something yards yesterday (into a breeze), and downhill as you can see from the pictures. The closest of the bunkers on the left side of the fairway is about 215 off the tee. I think they were put in to stop balls bouncing off the fairway and into the forest, as the ground slopes down towards it. Over the cart path is either OB or a hazard area--used to be OB but I think it's been changed to penalty area recently.

 

Like many Japanese courses, there are two greens, and yesterday we were playing the left green, which as you can see is hidden off the tee. 

 

I hit a 4i off the tee to try and stay on the right side, which would give me a line to the green. However, I pulled it a bit and also the slope took it down to the left, leaving me a shot either over or around the trees. I tried to go round, but left my shot out right. Pitched on, missed a makable par putt and took a bogey. 

 

I hate this hole. I am pretty sure that when it was built, the trees on the left weren't there or were just saplings, so the idea was to hit over them. Now that's not much of an option.
