Got My New Driver! But Why!?!?

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I pulled the trigger on a brand new Cobra BC + in blue and it arrived today. Got it a little too late to hit the range (pretty sure those in the NE aren't feeling too sad for me right about now) and I LOVE the looks and feel - but I just have to ask.

Why in the world does a new driver have so many stickers and such on it? Right on the shaft so you have to work a little to get them all off.

There was:

The original price sticker.

The sale price sticker.

The final price sticker.

The shaft weight.

The shaft flex.

A hologram sticker from Cobra.

Plastic wrapped on the grip.

Plastic wrapped on the head.

A sticker on the face of the driver once the plastic was removed.

A sticker on the base of the driver once the plastic was removed.

A second sticker indicating flex under the plastic.

And finally a sticker telling the various lofts.

Now I don't know about the rest of you but all of that stuff has simply got to be removed before I am going to take it out and hit it. And I just don't quite understand why they wouldn't just wrap the whole thing in plastic and put the stickers on that outermost wrap. Or perhaps put just one sticker with all of the info.

Not that it was that big of a deal I guess but in the past some of the stickers didn't come off as easily. These peeled off without having to use Goo Gone or something - which NOONE wants to do to a brand new club!

So, I will be hitting the range with it Wednesday. But this message is for all of the retailers out there as well as the OEMs. C-mon man - make it easier for us to plug and play. Let's max out on say five stickers and leave it at that.

Oh, and did I mention that I LOVE the looks of this driver. Blue really looks awesome!

Because if not, someone would have started a thread saying they don't provide enough info on new clubs... :D

Enjoy the driver, it's a solid one. Definitely one of the better releases from last year.

I'm with you, especially with the stickers on the shaft down around the head. I just leave them on. Kinda acts as a shaft protector of sorts.

Medic: Do guys who don't use headcovers on their woods, then you have to listen to them clank together while you're riding in the same cart, bother you?

Cuz I play with guys who don't remove the stickers OR use headcovers. It drives me insane!

OMG the replies in this thread are classics. Thanks for the LOLs!

Now, one cannot help but wonder. Poor guy leaves the stickers on and wonders why his 62 gm shaft never quite plays like the 62 gm shaft he used to own. Well we all know it's because his new shaft, with stickers attached, is 63 grams!

I will definitely be posting a review and some images. I wasn't 100% sure how I would like the color but I have to say the way it is offset by the white - a real classy look.

Mazz, your reply reminded me of something else. Who hasn't cut themselves trying to open a new tool or whatever that is in one of those new plastic sealed together cases? And I bought one of those special knives meant to make opening those cases easier - and proceeded to cut myself with it the first time I used it. Now I am back to just cutting across the top with scissors, wearing leather firefighter gloves, and having at it. Sort of like extrication from a car....

To those in the know on the BC +, do you tend to tee it high with this driver?

Thanks again for all of the replies guys. Images to follow!

Those theft-proof plastic packages are awful. I have a carbon steel blade set aside just for those, and still it isn't easy. What's worse than those are kids toys (I have two kids under 9) that not only have the theft deterrent plastic, but also have parts so tightly zip tied, and with pretty high grade ties, to the point you need a proper stubby nosed wire cutter to get them free.

Kind of boring images but took a shot of the new face that hasn't had contact on it yet. And the HC - wasn't sure if I liked it at first but it's like the rest of the club - unique.

Another angle showing the beautiful color. In case you are wondering where it came from there is another image.
Long story somewhat abbreviated - became a Paramedic here in Florida in 1985. Kept a promise to my mom after she suffered a stroke that I would continue my education. She died 5 days after I made that promise and I started the medic courses the very next semester.
So yes, this driver has some really special meaning. I DO love that color!

I don't have as cool a story......But my driver is black because i'm a huge fan on Wesley Snipes "Passenger 57"

People ask me, "hey Jeff, that's a pretty tight fairway, think you'll hit it?"

And i say "ever play roulette?"

They say "on occasion"

And then i drop the bomb "Always bet on black!"

So it has significance for me too

I like that color too. It looks much better than an all blue driver head IMO. Hated the headcover tho. I don't understand why you would have slits in it potentially exposing the head to get scratched.

Thanks for sharing that, great story indeed.

And I guess maybe you "need" one of these to finish up the color scheme...
