Greentree Accurist Lee Trevino Irons

Recommended Posts

I'll try again with some photos and the last effort backfired! But I spotted these at my work mates garage clear out and just had a crack with them, boy the felt lovely. No idea of the shafts flex but I suspect they are stiff. Was wondering if anybody had owned a set in the past and if they were of any decent standard, but they feel and look good.

I vaguely remember seeing these in second-hand racks when I were a lad.............

After trawling through the thick sludge of memory (and a bit of t'interweb research), I found this snippet from the Parish Histories of Dunbar, Scotland.....

International Golf Holdings[background=rgb(255, 255, 238)] began life as Scotcraft at the Winterfield workshop beside Kirkpark. It became Greentree Limited in 1971 and transformed again when it moved into new 17,000 square foot of accommodation at Spott Road in 1972. It then employed 64, including a number of apprentices. In 1978, the company collapsed, making 50 people redundant.[/background]

It's doubtful that heads would have been forged at Winterfield, so it's probable that the factory was an assembly and finishing plant. Most of the UK heads in the 70's (Dunlop, Slazenger/Hogan, etc) came from Bonds Precision Foundry of Cumbria, and were cast, rather than forged, but still very high quality at the time......Sadly, Trevino himself didn't use Greentree clubs himself, instead preferring a custom set of irons which he picked up in Australia around 1969.....though when he played in the UK they were stuffed into a Greentree bag............hope this helps!

Cheers for that, just wondered really as I was shocked on how well they played. Good for practice as its great when I go to my normal irons after with a bigger sweet spot! But I just love older classic clubs

So, I was searching google images for the above; Accurist Greentree Lee Trevino irons, as these were the first clubs I ever tried, in ‘99 as a 12 year old.

They were up in the attic, purchased by my late father, complete with a mouldy bag from the 1980s and some wooden woods.

I’d not long started high school, and a friend played golf. These clubs were all I could acquire to play my first ever game. Needless to say, it didn’t go particularly well. As a boy, using blades, and having never swung a club, I certainly didn’t get that feeling of puring a shot.

I eventually sourced some Donnay clubs in the early 2000s, and for the next 10 years, played the occasional game. The Donnays were cavity backs, so at the very least, I hit the odd decent shot during that decade of the odd game a season.

Fast forward 20 years and I’m now a member of a few different clubs in Scotland. Playing off a handicap of 2, with an absolute obsession for the game.

Often a love of golf arises from humble beginnings like mine, but I would love a go of those original Accurist irons, now that I know where the centre of the club face is.

I just came across a bag of clubs my father had, Accurist Lee Trevino Greentrees, 1 & 2 woods, 346789 irons a PW and a SI.

Also in the bag, a MH 3 wood, a senior player mark 2 5 iron, a Ben Hogan exploded and a Wilson Patty Berg Cup defender PW.

I dont play, yet, but do these have any value? No good to me.

If you list them on ebay they might fetch between £10 and £30 for a part set.

The Hogan Exploder might get some interest if in god condition.

Below is a picture of the irons for PaoloHC

It's not all about the score.
