Affordable Launch Monitor?

Recommended Posts

My old teacher had a discusion with the course owner and had to leave the club. He also has a pro-shop, but he needs to continue giving lessons. Wich launch monitor is affordable , accurate enough to give lessons and do fittings, and also can bo coneccted to a large TV (or a computer) to see the shot representation????

thanks in advance.

Martin.

I have an accusport vector pro unit and it does well for me.

They are out of business now but you can grab a decent used one on eBay for less than $700 a lot if times. I mean it's much better cost than GC2 or Flightscope etc at 5k+

It is a launch monitor so doesn't give club numbers but does calculate most fairly accurately.

Depends on what your definistion of affordable is. Likely a Flightscope X2 or the likes would be best. Trackman are nice, but over priced. Foresight suck compared to the others.

Foresight really, based on what? It's actually one of the best launch monitors out there and actually based on testing and comparing to others.

OP, you probably need a little more detail, budget, will fittings be done indoors/outdoors or both? If indoor, what size of an area do they have to work with? Do they want club head data, ball data or both?

Foresight sucks probably because they charge another $2.5K just for the software. Hello? Aren't we supposed to get a free software when we buy computer hardwares? Not a good business practice....

And the cheap LM only runs on Ipad? I have no idea about their marketing strategy but there are more people who are using laptops. And a laptop has a more powerful processor than an ipad..... a cheap $500 laptop runs faster than a $700 ipad....

These are different points. Saying something sucks, people will generally think that it doesn't work or is garbage. Overpriced, i agree especially when the software is another huge investment on top of the hardware cost. However, the unit does not suck. Also, skytrak has posted that they are going to PC and android, the question is when. They have to know it's limited with ipad so you would think that getting these other options out there sooner rather than later is a priority. Currently the skytrak may be the most affordable with the potential for the most upside as well. A used vector is also very affordable, however I don't believe there is anymore support so you run a risk there. For $1.5K, you don't have many options.

He will use it indoors. The pro shop is located in downtown Rosario, Argentina, and rented old house, with the front rooms for retail, and a orginal bedroom for the monitor.

He will use it for club fitting and to teaching as well, so the monitor needs to give a simulation of the shot, with all the data asociated in a 32" TV or something similar.

Looks like the SkyTrack is the best option.

Skytrak will never give club data....just FYI, if that's important for him.

Foresight is absolutely a great machine, but their cost is quite high. Software for fittings + GC2 (new) would be around $8000? I suspect you could find it for <$5k online somewhere though.

What does it provide? BS, LA, Spin, Face angle, etc?

+1 on the Vector Pro. Works in a tiny space and simulates ball flight. No support but my second hand one hasn't missed a beat in two years, and I can't remember anyone else reporting major problems either.

Personally I would hold off for a year on the skytrak until there is a bit more usage, their initial product release seemed to have a lot of problems from reading the forums.

There are some Foresight units out there in the $5000 range without software. They do have a couple of software options though and a stand alone fitting app for iPad that is pretty cheap. The data is very accurate and the device itself is very flexible. You can use it indoors or outdoors easily, setup takes almost no time at all and it doesn't have the same space requirements of the doppler based systems to use inside. You also don't need to put those reflective dots on the balls. That's something to consider if you're going to be using it on a public range.

Reflective dots on balls only needed indoors, so no problem when used outdoors, in reference to doppler units.

And as I said Skytrak will not give club data, and by that I mean any club data, which would include club face. I think it does "provide" club head speed, but it's just a guess based on ball speed and maybe some other ball measurements.

GC2/Skytrak take pictures of the ball via 2 cameras firing alternatively (to get by with a lower spec fps cam) fast/clear enough to recognize dimples moving between frames for spin calc. So.......understanding the tech, there is no club data.

Now if you went GC2 with HMT that would provide the club data, but now youre looking at $12k+.
