Shaft install cost - Golf galaxy

cvvorst

Recommended Posts

I want to preface this thread by saying that the guys in my golf galaxy are for the most part nice, semi knowledgeable people who I get along with.

I had the club makes reshaft a club. They took a shaft out of my tour edge cb5 and installed a different shaft. The total bill for this was $29.

I saw this and asked them to confirm they got it right. They looked it over and said it was right.

Does this sound right to everyone?

I asked if there was a discount if I brought in a full iron set to have shafts swapped, I was told the wasn't.

If I wasn't already planning on getting a shaft extractor, I certainly will be now!

Wow. Never realized it cost $18 to do that. You can buy a giant thing of epoxy for half that. I literally stood there and watched them install it, took 45 seconds.

Club repair is just like changing your oil in your car. Club repair isn't rocket science it's easy to do but most people don't want to go to the trouble to do it themselves. We charge 25.00 for a shaft install. I get guys all the time that b**** and moan about the price. I simply ask them can you do it? When they say no I say that will be 25.00

Yep, it is fairly easy, but it requires many tools the average golfer does not own.

To add to your post, most people have not made the investment necessary for the tools to perform the job properly; club vise, shaft extractor, swing weight scale, gripping station, hand tools, tape, epoxy, etc.

These things cost money, and some of them cost a lot of money.

+2

Also can only blame myself if things go wrong. But basically a must have for club hoes or regripping/reshafting/loft/lie changes would leave much less funds for the actual equipment

I have worked on by own equipment since wooded drivers and no way would anyone charge less than $30 to remove and reinstall another shaft. The time consuming part is cleaning the head for installing the new shaft.

It is not any quicker per club to do 1 vs 8 irons at a time, same time just multiply by 8.

It never makes sense to swap shafts if you have to pay some one to do the work. If you have a used set sell them and buy another used set with the right shafts.

I'll so tired of the argument that it only took them x number of minutes to do it. Yeah, because they have done hundreds of them. So, you should pay LESS because they are better? How much time did it save you? You're covered if they break it. Sounds reasonable to me!

This happened to me the other day. Fixed a lady's computer, remotely. She didn't tell me it was slow, etc. Told me about a different problem. Found malware and removed it all on about 30 minutes. Rushed a bit, because she had an appointment. She then b!tched about the amount I charged ($99, standard virus / malware removal) [end rant]

Golfsmith offers a 20% discount on 6 clubs or more for re shafting. I had this done this past Friday. The price they have posted at their stores is 18.99, however if you search "golfsmith reshaft cost" it will lead you to a page where the price is 19.99 per club but a 20% discount on 6 clubs or more. I brought this up while at the store and neither the club repair tech or the manager had any knowledge over this, so after they searched it up and found it. They said they would honor it and I ended up saving around 25 dollars.

Now thats expensive. $99 for a 1/2 hour, that's almost on that Lawyer time...she should have saved herself a little money and bought a new machine.

Part of the reason I asked was because I've had iron sets reshafted for under $100.

It seems I've offended some of you by asking if the price was fair, which is odd considering that's what this forum is for...

I'll stand by what I said. A job that takes under a minute shouldn't cost $18. Since it does, I'll be doing it myself in the future. (or looking to see if I can find someone cheaper)

I didn't complain to the guys who did the work, I'm not lodging a complaint with the company, but I do have an opinion. If that's still allowed?

I don't think anyone was offended, we just understand the costs and what is fair. $18 for a specialized service really isn't that crazy but you have to look at the whole picture not just the micro level. You have to pay the person doing it, pay for the place to do it, pay for the equipment to do it, then add in profit for the store(yes, retail store are for profit establishments). There are more costs involved for anything done in a retail establishment and you pay for it
Accordingly.

For those who only do these things once or twice it's a small price to
Pay, if you do it a lot then it makes sense to invest in the equipment to do it yourself. Then you also have to look at the time spent to do it, your time is also worth a certain amount. (Varies by the individual)

Lets see so do a reinstall in 45 seconds. One step my be 45 seconds applying epoxy and putting shaft in head, but you are forgetting shaft prep time, and hosel cleaning time.

Why would you have not gone back to the shop that charged you $100 for a full set of irons to be re-shafting? They are probably out of business due to such low rates.

After you start doing your own club work, you would never take just $100 to re-shaft a set of clubs. Sure $100 just to install a set shafts which is very easy, but cleaning and prep after the pulling is the time consuming part.

The guy who did my irons tried doing retail, now he's gone back to just doing club work, but he got rid of his brick and mortar store front. I didn't go down to him because it was a single club and galaxy is within a quarter mile of my office.

I already found another place that will do the same thing for half the cost anyway (another big store) Should have done my homework I guess.

Again, didn't mean to get the guys who work in these shops all riled up...

Let's see, buy a new machine, equivalent or better than her current (i5 processor, 4GB RAM, win 7, 500GB HDD). ok, that's about $500. Now, have someone transfer her data, since she doesn't understand files / folders, ok, that's $50 or $100. Now spend 4 hours or so installing her programs. Maybe set up mail in outlook.

$99 remote support sounds like a bargain to me. She got it all fixed and made it to her appointment. I told her if she had anything else strange come up in the next few days, I would do another session at no charge. Since I had to rush, so she could make her meeting.

Sorry OP for the thread hijack.

  • 4 years later...

I do shaft repair etc. and charge 20.00 for reshaft. People have no idea what it takes to do, it can be presion work. Went to class at college and then to golfsmith school to learn the little things to do it correctly. All the little things that can be done wrong can make a huge difference in feel, shot performance, and if it stays together. I've been at this 30 years, 2 complaints. Not a bad service record, I fixed both free of charge. If you think you can do it yourself, go for it and when they are different lengths and none are the same weing weight, feel like crap and don't perform, come see me you want a professional job, go to a pro have it done and have the time of your life, or go to burger king, you get what you pay for. No one has ever pulled a shaft cleaned the head measured the shaft cut the shaft checked the swingweight let it dry and put on a grip in 45 seconds, I can't even type it that fast. To exaggerate is one thing to lie is another.
