Not really meant for welding per say. It’s a low carbon steel that is very similar in composition to 1018 (which is also a steel classified as having excellent weldability but has many uses).  I’m guessing due to their location that it’s cheaper to use and has virtually identical playing characteristics to 1018/1020/1025

that’s all complete BS. Plenty of carbon steel is significantly harder than the stainless steel used in putters.  SM490A is essentially the same as 1025 which is extremely common in carbon steel putters.
 

Feel has way more to do with a putters properties than the materials used.  I can make a stainless putter the feels softer than a 1018 putter by changing cavity depth/face thickness and over all weight distribution

Haven’t seen anyone using Sm490 in the U.S or in any other countries only in Japan! Because its hard to make putters using this material.

Again, no it’s not.  SM490 is a Japanese classification. They have the same steel in the US, but it’s called something completely different. It’s essentially the same as 1025.  Making putters out of a material like Timascus is infinitely harder.  Making any putter out of stainless steel would be more difficult.   It’s a low carbon non hardenable steel with 0.20% carbon (same as 1020).  
 

Nobody is using it because it doesn’t make sense to import a Japanese steel that’s the same as commonly available 1020/1025.  Any machinist would tell you that using titanium, tungsten, or any hardenable steel would be way more difficult to work with

How are you finding this? I was just talking to the guy there about one of these. Love the look! But haven't really seen many of his sticks around? I was looking at a gamer spec, maintenance free putter to use here in the UK in the bad months of weather. Hows the copper feel wise, I am currently in a DASS Betti

Norcal! Yeah it was a pro plat mil spec with a shaved bottom and remilled, black oxide finish with kbs shaft at 34inches

**The silver putter is a Pro Plat.... based on the cameron on the back, its not black.

Very Nice. Thought it was a Pro Plat cleaned up but was thinking based on markings it was a Studio Stainless. I gamed mine ever since '03 but mine has red in the circle, many tried to kick it but never happened. Still have but is now my backup..../cough cough...LOL  Link to Cameron website below.   

 

I finally just switched to the Select this year. First putter found to be as good as the studio stainless.  Tried many too.... too many  😃
