What Did You Shoot Today? (Continuation)

81 for the first round of the year. Long game and irons were great wedges were bad and putting was horrendous. If it wasn't for the 6 three putts it could've been a pretty decent first round of the year.

Shot an 80 yesterday. Even 40/40. Driver and putter did well for the most part, but wedge game just didn't cooperate. Seemed like every approach was 103 yards and I think I might have hit one good shot on the day from there. Wedge let me down around the greens too. At least I've got it narrowed down to a single club to work on. Highlight of the day was hitting out of a fairway bunker from 142 yards and sticking it to about 4 foot for one of three birdies.

I feel like I'm on the verge of being able to play some really good golf.

ย

I'm playing a competition this Sunday. Played 9 this evening for practice. My goal was to put full focus on each shot and try to hit every fairway and every green. You're probably thinking "What do you normally do?". In the back of my mind that's what I usually try to do, but not with the intensity of focus that I put on it this evening.

ย

Started the round with a birdie on the par 5 1st and thought I was off to a good start. Then managed to put three in the pond guarding the green on the par 4 2nd for an 11, the highest score I've had on any hole in a long time.

ย

I decided to see if I could compose myself and bring the rest of the round in with a decent score. I managed to play 3-7 with 3 pars and 2 bogeys. Unfortunately I missed the green on the 8th, then 4-putted for a triple. I followed that up with a par on the 9th.

ย

So I played 7 of the 9 holes in 1 over, and the other 2 holes in 10 over. Keep in mind my tournament index is 23.6 coming off last year. If I can focus on Sunday and minimize the damage, I might be able to bring home some hardware.

76-74 this weekend, things are starting to come together nicely.

ย

Epic is for real. There is life after c-taper's. I am starting to actually develop a "short game", at least something that resembles one...

91 on Saturday.

ย

86 on Sunday.

ย

Both par 72.

ย

1 tap in birdie at a par 5 on Saturday. Happy about that along with my driver both days.

ย

FWY and short game/putter was on and off both days. Gotta def work on both before I play next.

ย

Also, what app is that with the scorecard and stuff? Looks cool. Never tried one before.

74 and 75 this past weekend. Driving the ball like an animal, approach shots need some fine tuning, putting and short game are fairly tidy. Also tossed in a 35 from friday afternoon as well, forgetting about a 34 that was hanging out on the shelf from the fall... darn 69 combined popped up and there go the couple of shots i had been getting to start this spring.... ugh.

Not today, but I took yesterday off for my birthday and posted a 71 from the back tees at Torrey North. That's by best score on either Torrey course. 6 birdies, 4 on the back. If I had started on time (bogeyed first 4 cuz no warmup cuz long story) I would probably have been in the 60s. Everything was working.

played yesterday and got 110, with 12 penalty strokes. I've started keeping two scores one with penalty strokes counted and one without that way its easy to see how many shots you lose when you lose your ball. I ended up with 110 instead of a 98. My low score is a 92 so I am happy with anything close to bogey golf

Last night - 9 hole league - shot 36 with a double, and missed 2 very makeable birdie putts. Not my best ever score on 9, but I don't remember ever being so dialed in. Even on the hole I doubled, I hit my drive well, but got a bad bounce that cost me 2 shots in the end. Hope last night is a trend rather than an aberration.

96 - one shot off of my best of 95, tied the best score I've shot at my home course. Trending handicap dropped another half stroke. Had 3 pars in a row which I don't think I've ever done before. I've shot 8 rounds under 100 in my life and already done it 3 times this year. I now expect to go out and shoot in the 90's which is such a different and great thing for me. I know that there are some rare to never 100 breakers out there, but if you work and play you can get into the 90s. Since I've been really playing golf (about a year and a half) my average score is at 106 still, so I've posted a ton of rounds over 100, but I've seen some good progress.

I played 9 holes and cursed way too much today. Course was muddy (all drives plugged except the one that hit the cart path) and bumpy (greens punched recently). Boring details below.

ย

1: Great drive, but ball below feet, skulled it, good up & down: Even

2: Pull-hooked an 8-iron into the wind, duffed a chip, misread next chip, missed 4-footer on bumpy greens: +2

3: Pull-hooked drive into trees, punched out, hooked 7-wood into water, dropped, putted up, barely missed putt, +4

4: Weak toed driver, hit 4-wood short and right, pitched long, 2-putts for bogey, +5

5: Hit 7-iron too far, putted to tap-in range for par.

6: Decent drive, skulled 7-wood approach into water, re-hit shot and missed green right, chipped short, chipped stone dead for double. +7

7: Great drive, pulled wedge approach, chipped to inches for par.

8: Lucky hooked drive missed water by 8 feet and hit cart path, perfect gap wedge to 5 feet, left putt 1" short, par.

9: Another short, toed driver, pushed 7-wood 40 yards right into water, dropped and hit fat wedge, chipped way short, 3-putted for 8, +11.

Mega Burn on the skin, burned on the greens as well... 37 putts, including a 4 putt (on a par 3, ouch!) and a 3 putt. Sad face...

ย

All new/unfamiliar clubs (more in the New Purchase picture thread coming soon...) so a bit inconsistent, but came around on the 17th with a bombed 260 yard drive, into the wind, and then a solid 140+ yard 6 iron, again into the very strong wind to within 10 feet, only to see my putt pull a 180* on the lip of the cup for a two-putt par...

ย

Few positives, all of which of course, will bring me back out to the course...

Played yesterday as a single and shot an ugly 83 (39/44). Amazing how mental I am. They failed to tell me that I was teeing off directly behind a sixsome so I immediately ran up on them on 1, as soon as they cleared the green I topped a wedge while they watched. Bogey. They then let me play through on 2 so I of course was all over the place and rushed the hole for another bogey. Then played 3-9 at +1 for a decent front of 39. Coming up 9 fairway I ran into another group of "older gentleman" who proceeded to NEVER let me play through, so it was a back nine of hurry up and wait. Got myself so flustered with them that I played horrible, despite having all the time in the world. Oh well, it happens.

Shot a typically poor post work 102 yesterday. Just don't seem to be able to play that well after work. Oh well, one day I'll figure out how to play half way decent in the evenings.

94 - best round I've ever shot by a stroke. Went out in 44 which is my best 9. Then had 2 quads on the back for a 50. Hit very few fairways and only 2 GIR. Just didn't have anything really bad happen and did have a bird. Trending HC is now down to 24.1 from 28.5 to start the season.

ย

edit - forgot that the round was super slow as there was a HS match in front of me and I was a single. The last group in the HS match was ultra slow and they left empty water bottles on the tee boxes on 2 of the back 9 holes, where there are trashcans not 10 yds away max.

With temps in the mid 40's, a light drizzle coming down, and a forecast of snow tomorrow, I had the entire course to myself today.

ย

Trying to make sure and turn the ball over led to a couple punch outs on the front nine and a four over 40.

ย

Back nine went back to just trying hitting it. Eight GIR's along with unfortunately 16 putts for a solid one under 35 the back.

ย

I'll take 75 from our back tees any time I tee it up. And because it was solo I don't have to add a 1.3 differential. ?
