What Did You Shoot Today? (Continuation)

After playing the goat track with terrible greens Saturday, I made it to my home course this afternoon for a quick 9. My eleven year old daughter tagged along and drove the cart. Without so much as a warm up swing I shot a 2 over par 38. I had 3 bogeys and a birdie. Made 2 long putts that really helped. I sure do love putting on fast, smooth rolling greens. Played the 9 in 1 hour.

Shot an 81 yesterday on my short local muni. Rating is 68, par 70, slope 117. Had to start on the back 9 first and was 3 over. Started spraying my drives on the front which got me into trouble and carded 2 doubles on 1 and 2. Got my head back in the game and was 8 over going into my last hole, then realized that a par would get me a 78, which would be a personal best... Pretty easy hole too, straight forward 350 yds, ob left and trees on the right, but between the rough and the fairway you have about a 50 yd wide landing area that is playable from. I wind up for a big hulking drive and hit it ob left. There goes par... Hitting 3 from the box got to my head and I carded a triple for the hole. Oh well, there is always next time. 1 birdie, 9 pars, 5 bogies, 2 double bogies, 1 triple bogey. 8 GIR, 32 putts, 5/13 fw. I really need to work on my tee game.

95 without anything over a double bogey. Pathetic. No pars on the back nine.

98, right after my index fell below 14 for the first time in a long time. 7 and 6 on par 3's on the front, two 4 putts, no lost balls off the tee, one OB shot out of a bunker. Not sure I could have played worse the closer I got to the hole. Just atrocious.

Good news - 8:30 tee time this morning, right back at it...

Turned a couple of very potential rounds in the 60's into 74's.

Friday came to 17 (#18 handicap hole) at 2 under. Couldn't really figure out how I wanted to play it with the wind, so promptly made a crappy swing, hit it in the lake and made double. Then 18, pull my tee shot a bit, but hit it well. We searched all around the trees and concluded it must have gotten stuck up in a big spruce. Back to tee, another doubl(and then someone finds my original farther up, with very reasonable shot.

Saturday was just the putter being off. 10 very realistic birdie chances. Made one.

But I won't complain too much, both scores were good enough to make a little cash.

85 today, first time I've broken 90. Nothing exciting just boring two putt par and one putt bogey golf.

Seven pars, five on the front including four in a row which was a pretty good feeling. I putted very well, had one three putt but that was because of a bad decision.

Looking forward to shooting 102 the next time I play!

I'm on a 2 week family vacation while my clubs are sitting very lonely at home, so I'm living vicariously through all of your round descriptions. I'm not in a rush to get back to work, but I may have to find a thrift store and buy a putter or wedge and a couple of balls for the hotel room.

I hadn't played a round of golf in over 2 months and have barely swung a club in that time. Baseball season is nearing the end (coaching 2 teams) and I finally had some time to get out. I went to the range once last week and it was pretty sketchy. I played a really tough course on Friday night (74+ course rating). I wasn't keeping official score (hitting extra shots here and there, taking a drop instead of back to the tee, etc) but I would have probably shot around an 83/84. I hit a lot of good shots but also hit 3 or 4 absolutely terrible shots that were long gone (3 foot grass off the fairway there, not even worth looking for most of the time). It felt really good to get out but I was quite rusty.

I played again yesterday and was a little more serious. The driver was left all day and I missed quite a few iron shots long and/or left. The short game was pretty good and that kept me in the round. All in all, I was pretty happy. I shot a 75 with 2 balls in the water and missing more than half of my fairways and greens. I missed left with the driver 7 times (I guess I don't learn) and missed greens long and/or left on 8 holes. I was hitting the ball a lot further than I was expecting. I'm not sure if that is a swing thing or just not playing in this kind of weather for a long time and my yardages are all off. It was 56* and soggy the last time I played.

What did I shoot today? How about myself in the foot?

Worst ball-striking day in I dunno how long... Driver didn't get going until I stopped keeping score (score card below courtesy of the caddy) toward the end of the front nine...

I just can't seem to break 90 on this course. Tough tough day...

My irons and wedges are currently being re-shafted, so I borrowed the clubs rental G25's with Pings light weight stock shafts. Proceeded to fire a 38 on the front. Made 2 doubles on the back, was 7 over going into 18 a 450 yard par 4 that plays into the wind. Good drive and pulled my approach into the right bunker. Here I was thinking let's get out of trouble and limp in with bogey. Pured my bunker shot and spun right in the hole for a finishing birdie and 78!
