Please help with driver shaft

Hopefully you guys can help me!

 

I am 33, 5'10", and have a swing speed of about 116mph. I have been swinging a Taylormade R1 with a Ad di 6x shaft, which I am likely replacing with a 915 D2 10.5.

 

Issues:

1) I have a very low launch angle, 4-7 degrees, even though the club and shaft should be launching far higher. Driver head set to 10.5 and Ad Di should have a higher launch.

 

2) Consistently inconsistent with the driver. Recently developed an occasional pull/duck hook miss...or a banana slice.

 

 

I like the feel of the load of the Tour Ad Di, but bought it on a whim a year or so ago and don't know if its the best shaft for me.

 

 

I put the ball out there more than 280-300 regularly, but would love to find the fairway much more frequently.

Do you know where you are hitting the ball in the face of the club head? If you are catching it low this can result in a really low knuckler.

Where is the ball in your stance? Needs to be close to the instep of your left foot for a right handed golfer.

Well your head and shaft pairing might be a culprit as well as the loft and the height of the ball on the tee. A launch angle of 4-7 is way low for a 10.5. I am actually using a 12 degree now and my launch angle is at an 10-11. The Ad di should not be added too much to the low lauch although it is a mid launch shaft. Maybe the ad dj might be better for you to try but I would recommend a loftier club. The hard thing with the R1 is you are limited to loft of the club so you might need to switch to something else. Dont be afraid to loft up especially with the low spin mid launch shafts.

With a SS of 116, you should be hitting that combination sky high. Have someone well qualified look at your swing. Something is not right with it.

Ball is off the left toe. I typically get the ball toe-center of the club face. I have quick hands which doesn't help with the inconsistency.


I have been to a couple of teachers for video analysis. Worked on keeping right shoulder lower and staying back a little on the ball, but although it has gotten the launch up, it leaves the left miss still there since the hands still try and keep up on the serious lag.

I definitely need to get a swing fix and know the club isn't going to solve the issue. I hit and have really always hit my irons well, but would be great to get a shaft that helps.

Of the stock shafts for the new 915, the Whiteboard and Rogue Silver, I would assume the Aldila would be best. Thoughts on others to consider?

For inconsistent strikes, the best recommendation is to go shorter in playing length, that can help some.

For quick hands and that high swing speed, it might be worth it to try a heavier shaft. Unfortunately, for the two stock x-stiff options, the weight is about the same both (Rogue silver 60x is listed as 72 gm, the D+ 70 is listed at 73 gm) so that wont help the decision. Neither one is "better" then the other, the better shaft is the one that fits your swing better.

I think it is more a swing issue. You really need to get that launch up and I dont think you can see a big enough change from a shaft. But good luck man! YOu got great numbers! Also that consitently inconsistent is bugging me...

It sounds more like a ball position or swing issue than an equipment issue. Have someone take a look.
