Rory's wedge game is shockingly bad for someone this deep in the bracket.
Rory played well sat am. He was average best other than that. Casey and billyHo each gifted him matches and Dufner was 5 over through 14 on day one. I don't remember much of Rory's Thursday match but I don't think he was lighting it up with birdies then either.

Jim Furyk is Old Man River.

Old man is number 5 in the world rankings and has a hell of a nice
bank account for it, simply put, this
guy is a player.

Play Golf.....Play Blades......Play Something Else.....Just Go Play.....

Gotta say it with sorrow in my heart...... We American golfers suck, can anyone close a freakin match out..... Geez, no wonder we loose the RC every time!

I think part of the problem is that players like Furyk treat it like a strokeplay event and go 'if I par my way in, I should win'. Matchplay golf usually awards attacking play. When you're playing against the top players in the world, there's always a good chance that they'll turn on the screws. Conservative play like that might work well on paper but if you're playing a player the calibre of Rory McIlroy, sometimes you have to go a little bit further.

What part of 6 birdies escapes you? Silly remark after the match Furyk just played.

European Tour

Wow! McIlroy cards two birdies & a closing eagle over the last three holes to edge out Furyk. Gary Woodland awaits in the final.

What are you talking about? Furyk is 1 up standing on 16 tee. Plays -1 from there and gets run over.

It is why Rory is the best player by far. The tire tracks up Furyk's back were shaped like a "B" as in Rory's "B" game. :taunt:

Yeah Jim played a good match, no doubt about it. Just thought at 17, he could have killed it off by trying to go for the flag more. He must have known that McIlroy would rally at him. I know that's easy to say in hindsight and he played by the book. The book says hit middle of greens when you're in the lead. But as we often see in Ryder Cups, the top players can often go against the book and turn on the screws.

It's more of a general point rather than for this specific match and possibly a reason why Jim Furyk doesn't do that well at Ryder Cups. He's usually the one beaten by the great shot rather than the other way round.
