Lowry was robbed, played really well. Fowler pulled off a putting performance for the ages there. How he holed all those putts I do not know.

Adam Scott is knocked out of the chance to play the weekend.

Dustin Johnson is out after missing a putt to win by an inch. Pretty harsh. The format can definitely be improved, they say that you can still go through if you lose a game but Lowry and Johnson have won a game and lost another by one hole are out with a day left?

Dustin Johnson still has a chance to advance. If dustin wins tomorrow and Matt Jones beats Charl there will be a 3 way sudden death playoff.


The reason Lowry can't advance is because Fowler has the tie breaker over the other players in the group by beating him and Harris.

This system sux. You root for a guy and he wins his 2nd round, but it is pointless becuse an other guy wins and makes 2nd round obsolete. Point beeing, the guy who played and won his 2nd round has really played for nothing. And 3rd round will be even more pointless.

I actually really like the new format, as they say it allows you to watch every player in the field for 3 days. Those saying it's unfair that a guy can be mathematically eliminated from the weekend on a chance hole-out or whatever, i mean that happened all the time in the old format too

It's like the world cup, you get an unlikely draw, or a goal in the 89th minute that leads to a tie....it can cost you

I think this way is better then the old way, to be honest

Being able to watch every player or 3 days alone makes it much, much better. Go back and look at how many people tuned out during the week when "their" guy lost last year.

There are going to be quite a few dead rubber matches tomorrow though.

I am fine with the group stage system but if you have a league/round robin format then I think you need halved matches. I would also consider changing head to head to holes difference for tied players but that's just personal preference.

Doesn't do much for the fans but if so at least the players have a reason to show up

If you win the next two and your opponent in the first round wins only one of two, you are both tied at 2-1. The tie breaker is head-to head. Pretty simple really:

[i]" At the conclusion of three matches, the player with the best win-loss record from each group advances to play traditional, single-elimination match play bracket with rounds of 16, Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals and Finals on the weekend. All matches are played to conclusions (no halved matches), including during pool play.

· Ties are broken in pool play as follows: If two players are tied, their head-to-head match result determines the player to advance; if three players are tied, there is a sudden-death, hole by hole stroke-play playoff following the conclusion of all players’ in the group third-round matches to determine a winner (groups will be slotted together in the starting times and these playoffs could occur at different times on Friday)."[/i]

IMO no one is putting better than Spieth right now. it's not even close and none of those 1 putts were easy gimmes. That has got to be one of the most unreal putting exhibitions I've seen in some time.

Problem with that is why should I (player A) be affected if player C is cruising on his way to an 85 and loses 9&8 to player B when player B was going to be around about level?

Hate to see him playing poorly again too but hopefully this will cause him to stay with the shorter putter. I am against anchoring being banned (another subject) but he needs to stick with 1 method and stop waffling.

Even if you figure Spieth just parred holes he didn't play, he shot 65 - 64 in his first two matches. Throw in nearly automatic birdies on 18 and you'd be looking at 64 - 63.

It's just not the putter. He's dialed in with the driver and the irons this week. If he plays like this tomorrow, Westy doesn't have much for him.
