Where are you playing tomorrow - Chicago (Round2)

Got out to cinder ridge this afternoon and was pleasantly surprised. Teed it forward with my Dad so it was a lot of 4 irons off the tee so I am not sure how it would play from the back but other than being a little rough around the edges it's a solid course. The greens were a little on the fast side for some of the pin positions and my old man WAS NOT happy with someone in the trailer park on the front blasting George Thorogood

Oak Grove today.

Liked it so much, I'm going again tomorrow.

My scorecard was a complete hit or miss.

Filled with pars and eights.

There are a few really cool holes that make you think about how you're going to attack them.

It's only a 30 minute drive for me so this one is going into my regular rotation with Hawk's View, Fox Lake CC, Lake Lawn, and Nippersink.

17 awesome holes and then #11.

'Fun morning at Harborside. I teed off with another twosome on the Starboard course, and we managed 3 holes before they called us in for lightning, and the approaching storm. After an hour rain delay I headed back out, but the twosome was nowhere to be seen. So, I continued the round as a single, and after playing through 3 groups, finished in 3:40. 'Not too shabby for a Sunday morning. It seems that a lot of groups took a rain check during the break, and didn't return. The course was in nice shape, even after the brief rain (minus the bunkers of course). The greens had just the right speed.

I had a very nice day ball striking, even with the winds, hitting 11 fairways and 10 greens. Three scrambles and 2 birdies, including a sweet 25 footer with 3 feet of break on #3, helped offset the 4 bogies.

Anybody planning on going the International Crown this coming week at the Merit Club? I am going to be working it, though not sure where as of yet, as it is likely to either change or rotate around. Should be a fun experience.

I'll be there all day Saturday. I was planning to take the train, but the schedule is awful. So, I'll probably drive and get there before the gates open.

I had a rare, but good ball striking night. I usually play the 80-90% rule, thinking that most of the time I'm not going to hit the ball flush so I take a club thinking that if I hit it fairly well, I'll achieve the desired distance. Tonight, I hit everything flush and scored horribly. I think I flew four greens. I should have adjusted but I haven't hit that many really good shots in a row. It's a funny game, golf.

Nothing worse than striking the ball perfectly, right?

Skipped golf league and got out at Deerfield late this afternoon. For $33 with a cart there isn't a better deal on the north side. Course was in great shape as always, greens were not fast but not slow, ran very smooth. Played by myself and got around in 2:30, was held up on the back a couple minutes on each hole.

Played the blue combo tees (6120) and had my best career round, 40-36-76. Two rounds removed from a season worst 96. Love the combo tees at Deerfield, they are very fun, but probably not too fair. There's a couple holes where the tees are too far up. Not that I was complaining when i was going for a par 5 in 2 with a 6 iron (missed it). Played the back even for first time ever, choked a bit on 17 when i shanked a sand wedge from 80 yards and ended up with a bogey. Finally putted well for first time all year with only one 3-putt and 7 1-putts, lots of close chips helped with 4 up and downs for par. 50% fairways, but 10 GIR.

Deerfield becoming a special place for me, like Bubba and Augusta. My lowest round ever, place I learned how to play and site of my only ace some 32 years ago.

Looking forward to getting out tomorrow and shooting a 93.

Played Foss Park on Monday for the first time. I don't know why it's taken me so long to get out there. Fun layout and pretty good conditions. That back side tightens up on some long holes. Had 4 birdies and ended with a 76. Will certainly go back out there again soon.... Especially with the great deals you can find online.

Tomorrow is Chapel Hill (haven't played here in at least 5 years) and then off to the Merit Club Friday to watch the ladies play. Good end to a fun first week with no job.

Arrowhead yesterday morning. Woah! Compared to the one time I played there early last year, conditions were excellent yesterday. Tightly mown fairways. Greens rolling well. Bunkers were okay. Rough was a little too long though, especially around the greens. All in all, hit it great. 16 pars, 2 bogies. That 10th hole is ricockulous. Tightest fairway on the course with OOB left and Jurassic Park right. Hit a 3 wood off the tee that land right side of the fairway and bounced into the crap.

Village Links scramble later in the afternoon. Ripped it long all afternoon. 12 birdies and an eagle on the 15th. Greens were recently spiked and were very spongy. Not ideal putting conditions. We hit a lot of shots close but had about 4 downhill 10 footers and missed them all. It was a big outing for the DuPage County mayors/managers. Great day other than there were NO FRICKEN PRIZES for the golf! WTF?

Back to the grind.

I assume you're referring to #1 on the east 9? I hate that hole. I think it's harder than #4 at Lost Marsh. It really should be played with three 7 irons, but noooooooo, gotta try to max out the tee shot. Kerplunk.

Parking for the UL Crown is at the College of Lake County ($5) and kids under 18 are free.

Have you run across a shuttle bus schedule? I believe the main gates open at 9 am, so I assume the buses will start running at 8:30 am or so.

I haven't but I assume it's at least a half hour before the gates open. I'm going tomorrow and gates open at 7am.

No worries, the milk cartons with CL on the side are a big hit.

Lefty laughed at me when I hit 6h, 6h, 6h and was on the back fringe. It was really good math.

Played George Dunne this afternoon right after a pretty big rainstorm had just rolled through town so it was 77 degrees when I pulled into the parking lot, it was 92 when I left and I looked like I had been trekking through the jungle. Busy but not George Dunne busy if that makes sense, played the front in 2 hours flat and than the front again to avoid the crowds in 45 minutes, probably the fastest I've ever played golf. My game just came alive and I hit every fairway and green, finished at a nice 42-35 which is soooo welcome as I have been struggling big time lately. I didn't see a soul my second time around the front 9 and am reminded what a nice; albeit a little roughed up of a course George Dunne can be.
