As will White Deer Run

Shorter list may be who won't be open ;-)

Thunderhawk won't. God they baby that place. We had the warmest fall maybe ever including some 70 degree days. Thunderhawk still closed mid-October and won't open again until mid-April

What a great day! Just finished a round at George Dunne. Course is in really good condition, considering it's February. Shot miserable 83, with double, double, bogey start and quad, bogey finish. Course was packed, but we finished in 4:20 (foursome). Didn't have to wait more then a minute to hit a shot. Polishing off couple bottles didn't help....??

I played Deer Creek (76) and Palmira (75). The weather was way too nice not to play two rounds, though the massive blister on the back of my right foot could be an issue when I'm walking 36 more tomorrow. I think it's time to swear off Adidas shoes.

Driver is on order, not here yet...

What did you order V?

Epic SZ. Dicks has a 50% trade in bonus on up to 3 clubs if you buy either Epic. Great promo as I traded in old clubs and got it without paying a dime. The downside is they have very little in stock, so even a simple order with a stock shaft had to go through the system.

Someone here bought a driver at Dick's? Amazing!

Sadly with golfsmith and golf galaxy gone by me they're the 2nd biggest around. With the 50% bonus upgrade on trade ins toward the club I wanted, which pgass claimed no knowledge of, it was a no brainer. Traded in failed experiments I picked up this winter and didn't pay a dime.

Admittedly something about it felt dirty, like exchanges winks with mrs dp4 when he's not looking.

How was Palmira? I used to play there in high school matches when it was a goat track but still had some crazy fun rounds there, went back about 10 years ago and they'd fixed it up a bit. I used to love standing on the back box of their monster par 5, tee was set back on the hill at 650 or so, not sure that exists anymore.

The fairways and greens were in pretty good shape but the bunkers have been really bad for a couple of years now. They don't have much sand in them and they're really hard. It's very comparable to what's happened to the bunkers at Aberdeen. My biggest knock on Palmira in the middle of the season is the amount of weeds on the course but that obviously wasn't the case yesterday. The tee boxes from the white markers were chewed up but the tips were fine. 17 isn't nearly as long as it used to be. The scorecard lists it at 617 but the post on the tee has it at 580 and I'd say the shorter mark was more accurate.

Deer Creek was much better than I expected. During the winter, I'm used to it either being frozen or a swamp but, with the exception of a handful of wet spots and really soggy bunkers, it was fine. There were a lot of people playing when I was walking off 18 yesterday so it'll be interesting to see how it handles the high amount of foot and cart traffic.

I opened today at Ives Grove. It's a dog track in June and July so my expectations were low, but Ives insisted on meeting them right there. It was nice to play a 7000 yard facility this early in the year though. I decided on Ives for two reasons: They insisted they would only allow walkers and I wanted to play Shephard's Crook (another place that was adamant they would not allow carts out) but was only able to book a 1:10 tee time. Naturally, I drove up and saw carts lined up on the first tee at both courses. Awesome. Shephard's was in pretty good shape, but the pace was awful. There were way too many guys who either hadn't swung a club in months or don't often play golf to begin with but wanted to take advantage of the weather. I still managed a 75 despite playing the last two holes with the sun already down.

Played Deer Creek today, it was a long day. Suppose to tee of at 10:20, got to the course and was advised that there was a half an hour frost delay. Got in line to tee off, and was advised that they were letting members of their league to get earlier tee times. Started at 11:00, got done at 4:00. Shot a 79, not bad for first time out this year, but the constant waiting to hit a shot on every shot hurt my game. Ohh well can't complain about playing in mid February.

My mindset at Deer Creek when it's busy is either get the first tee time or play elsewhere. Honestly, I get there and tee off before the pro shop opens and just pay at the turn. I can guarantee you their "frost delay" was a case of the employees not getting there on time to open the place up.

Great two days of golf this weekend! Played Cantigny Saturday (Woodside-Hillside). Greens were slow but suprisingly in good shape. Fairways and rough excellent for the time of year. Played The Glen Club Sunday overall in good shape. Really enjoyed the layout. For the money I would play Cantigny if I could only play one course.
