Where are you playing tomorrow - Chicago (Round2)

I'm going to be out in Kirkland, IL next Saturday afternoon, so I figured I'd play a round out that way. It's located between Rockford and Dekalb. Any favorite courses out that way? I was looking at Sycamore GC, but they don't allow singles to book. There's also Hughes Creek GC in Elburn. I guess I could always play a round in the Rockford area (Sandy Hollow), or possibly the Byron area, and backtrack to Kirkland. Is PrairieView, Silver Ridge, or Lost Nation worth the trek?

Sycamore is basically up and back..boring.

Sandy Hollow is always in good condition...no range...short-ish...but a fun round.

However...go play Prairie View. It's Carolina golf, with a great range, awesome conditions, nice variety and you'll enjoy it.

Played Poplar Creek today. It's a decent course but it's way over priced. It was $69.00 and they would not give a break for walking. Add range balls and it was nearly an $80 round. 2 groups in front were back to back 2 somes...and they would not pair them up together.

5+ hour round...

Definitely the last weekend round there.

Lame on the part of poplar

Had a great outing at Chwvy Chase

Course was playing fast and firm

I find it to be a challenging layout, but fun

Shotgun start but I'd definitely warm up at a range before tweeting it up

Holes 1-5, with the exception of 2, are a challenging stretch

Played Prairie Bluff in the afternoon. Course is in really good condition - my game, not so much. Shot 79 with double, bogey, triple to start the back 9.

Played Prairie Bluff this afternoon as well and also put up a 79 *cue twilight zone music* but I played the front twice and finished triple, double (greenside in 2) and bogey :black eye:

Not sure if it's my own bad luck or poor management or both but the last 3 times I have been out to Prairie Bluff I make the turn only to find 2 or 3 new groups between me and the group that was ahead of me... played the front again all three times, wide open all 3 times. Not sure why they would be sending people out on 10 when the front is wide open.

What time did you guys play Blackstone at yesterday? I teed off at 6:16.

I'm used to the greens at Blackstone when I putt on them, but the most challenging thing to me is chipping on them and hitting shots out of the sand. Hard to hold them.

We had the 12:10 tee time. We actually didn't get there until 12:15 because we got stuck behind a huge John Deer tractor on Marengo Rd. but it was wide open after 12:00.

A mostly pleasant round at Lost Marsh today. The course was in very good condition. The greens were a bit spongy, but were rolling surprisingly quick. I did notice that the areas around the greens were quite ragged in places. Missing the green did not guarantee a nice lie in the rough. The winds were light, so scoring was green lighted. Pace of play pretty much stunk at 4:40. Given that we teed off before 8 am, I don't understand why it was so slow. If a group wants to play slow, casual golf, then fine, tee off after 9 am.

A much better day ballstriking, with 12 fairways and 14 greens. No birdies and no scrambles, but a very solid round. I burned the edge on at least 5 putts, so the putter was more or less working. I think I'm finally getting comfortable hitting a fade off the tee, in addition to my regular draw. 'Definitely coming in handy on some holes.

Played Stonewall Orchard today, course is in good shape. Greens running in the 12s in preparation for the web.com qualifier on Monday. Shot a 79 after getting use to the speed of the greens.

Those greens are always incredible. Love that place.

I usually play Deerfield or Sportmans during the week, those green usually play a bit firm and fast but nothing like how it was at Stonewall

OMG George Dunne was in crappy condition Saturday. Pins were apparently not changed since Thursday. The greens had lots of shrapnel all over them and were bumpy. The bunkers were atrocious. They were super fluffy and we had balls plug rolling into them! In the fairway bunker on 11, I was in the middle of it and could only hack a sand wedge out about 20 yrds! Such a great morning to play golf and they present that shyte. No wonder everyone is leaving and playing elsewhere including the diehards I play with. They're playing Ravisloe more often now. And they also have these crappy new tee markers with a buffalo on them representing Billy Caspar. FFS! Also heard they just spent an inglorious amount on a buffalo sculpture to put outside the clubhouse.

Playing Harborside Wednesday morning in a scramble.

Don't know if it's been settled yet, but I've played Hughes Creek previously and it's probably not what you're looking for. The backside has a couple of fun little holes but for the most part it's pretty forgettable. The front 9 has several holes that are really crammed together and are borderline dangerous; we were nearly hit 3 times the first 6 or 7 holes. 3rd tee is the worst as it's located left of the 2nd fairway, right about where tee shots would be landing, especially if guys bail out afraid of the water right of the fairway. Not well planned.

I was pretty much settled on Prairie View, but it appears that they have an event on Saturday. The latest available tee time is 8:18 am, and then nothing the rest of the day. 'Weird. 'Not sure I want to leave the house at 6 am. I'll have to give them a call to confirm.

Edit: Yup, they have an outing, so I'll likely keep looking.

What is everyone's favorite range? Hard to beat St Andrews.

My favorite around is probably Blackstone as they have true green like targets to aim for.

I rarely pay attention to range quality though, I usually just need a place to hit the ball and get a feel for my swing again rather than trying to dial in at targets, which is probably why I end up at Fresh Meadows or Oak Brook most of the time. Two of the flattest, most undefined ranges out there.

You rarely pay arrention and usually leave a few clubs on the range. "Hey where's my 9 iron?"

It was 3 clubs, the 8, the pw and the gap wedge. Don't short change me.

Like I said at beers after the round, I was already envisioning the new clubs I would get...

Wholeheartedly agree with V. Played the course once, just to check it off the list and not likely to play it again. The course says it plays around 6,500 yards but it seemed way, way shorter than that. The first hole you're hitting blind to a green surrounded by water/reeds. The second hole is a shortish par 5 and with hitting a second shot basically blind, you can make some new friends if you hit it well (sorry V). Their mosquito abatement program was severely lacking and I probably donated a pint of blood, not through my choice.

The highlight is the bar which reminds one a bit of being up in Wisconsin.

Does anyone know of any good "twilight" memberships in the west suburbs? Moving to Naperville from west loop, and will be able to get out in the evenings now, but looking for a membership so I can just get home and go play 6, 9, 18... whatever I have time for.

My wife and I made the same move and we are not at Charles and Chicago in Naperville. Welcome!

I believe Bolingbrook has a twilight membership. Mistwood might also. However, it depends on where in Naperville you are moving to. Personally, from my home to Bolingbrook is easily 20 mins without traffic. I don't believe Tamarack has a twilight membership but it's cheap enough to snag a few holes.

Thanks, I am actually in Lisle, misspoke a bit. But Bolingbrook is a good deal, it is 11 miles away, 20 min drive so not too bad. I am living on seven bridges golf club, they don't have a range which is a deal breaker unfortunately.

Not sure how far from Ruffled Feathers you are, but they offer this "Arcis Players Club" membership. For $40/ month you get unlimited range and free afternoon golf ( must pay for a cart).

Love the course, play there quite a bit. Do you know with the pass, can you walk?

Not sure, but I would guess no walking (or at least they'll make you pay for the cart even if you don't use it). Still seems like a pretty good deal - play a top notch course (conditioning notwithstanding) for probably $20 or less and get to use the range for free (well, $40/month).

Chit load of Maltbys - TS2 irons, KE4 TC Driver & 4 wood, TSW 54* & 60* wedges, PTM5 Mallet putter

Played George Dunne yesterday. Haven't played in a long time and forgot how many bunker there are. Found alot of them in my round of 94. Some of the bunkers (esp. the fw bunkers) had very little or no sand and the others were had an abundance of sand. Despite this, I think it is a very good/challenging course.

I had pars on 6 holes but also took a 9 on a hole in the back. Ouch!

Nice, Buddha. 'Gotta work on getting the tee shot in the fairway. If you get your fairways up to 7 or 8 you'll be breaking 80 on a regular basis. Have you tried teeing the ball lower, and possibly choking down a bit on the driver?

I have recently started trying to not fight my natural fade, so at least my miss is consistent to the right. Lots of time, it is just a slight slice, the ones that miss. For the most part, I'm not missing the fairway by much. I just recently started teeing higher after a few real bad driver rounds. Could consider choking down.

I see that Golf Digest released their 2017-2018 Best in State lists today. Exactly 1 public course in the top 25 listing for Illinois. I've been lucky enough to play 4 of the courses on the list....wish there was more public access to the most revered courses in the state, although one has to wonder if these clubs are pulling some strings to get on these top course lists.

I'm playing Prairie Landing this weekend. One of my favorites in the area.
