Cantigny Thursday. Only played it once before 7 years back.

good condition except for the giant lake they are making on Woodside #3 and #4- shouldn't affect play. They need more drainage for the new construction in the park, they aren't making the lake to make the course harder, which it will. #4 Woodside was one of the easiest on that 9, now it will have water up the right side (close to the fairway) and OB left.

Lakeside/Hillside is the 18 for the day. Can't remember what 9s I played way back.

you should get a look at the construction work as you go from hillside 2 to 3.

Woodside and Hillside follow the same routing with holes more or less next to each other, for the first 6 holes.

Lakeside is on the "other side." of the entrance road.

woodside crosses the entrance road to get to it 9th hole

hillside crosses the entrance road to get to its 7th hole, I believe.

That picture is look up #4 fairway. The dirt is all the way to the fence now in what will be a giant pond. It's essentially going to require a 230 carry to take water out of play.

Did end up playing Weaver Creek in Peoria today, I liked the course a lot, and the staff were all very friendly, wish every course was like that. Course was in pretty good condition considering the spring we’ve had, except for some of the bunkers they are still working on I think. Luckily of the 6 or 7 bunkers I ended up hitting into, I hit into the ones that were in better shape. On the back 9, shot 7 over (4 over on the last 8) which for me is really good.

We played Weaver Ridge Sunday. It was as expected, a little shaggy and starting to grow in. The greens putted pretty well.

Weaver Ridge should eliminate two thirds of their bunkers. Although most greenside bunkers were fine, many of the fairway bunkers were washed out. It may be a visual treat but it must be a large expense maintaining bunkers with steep edges that rarely come into play.

... Can't believe I am saying this but I feel bad for the courses. GM at Naperbrook said financially this is the worst start to a season ever. They have lost a ton of money and had to cancel tourney's, leagues and of course so few rounds have been played. So it sucks for us to already be paying full rates but I get it. I played Naperbrook for $12 and the greens were aerated and super shaggy and by far the slowest I have ever seen. 2 days later came back (yesterday) with my $12 and it had already gone up to full price.

we paid rack rate at Sportsman's last weekend.

oh, they bought new carts. still gas powered. park district's tax dollars flushed through the pipeline. on the website shows $19 per rider.

Shepherd's is still spring rate and always plays nice unless there's a deluge. $35 to walk on weekends right now. wish they could figure out how to build a range up there. you can always bust a few across Green Bay Rd before first tee time. :taunt:

Still looking for a Saturday morning tee time. Not unexpectedly, a large number of courses looked fully booked in the AM. I may try to play Deer Creek for the first time.

Ugh. What happened to the Saturday forecast? They're now calling for morning temps in the mid 30's, with afternoon highs only in the mid 40's. Sheesh.

Just finished playing Hilldale. In decent shape but greens are really slow for that course. They started aerating the fairways today using the large holes.

I may be the only person on here who admits it, but I like Deer Creek. The greens are permanently shaggy and it's a flood plain course, so it's extremely flat and at times soggy. However, it's a great value, has lots of variety, and, despite being on the slowish side, the greens are fairly consistent. The fifth and 16th holes are legitimately difficult but there are lots of birdie opportunities there. It's a standard parkland course but, with the exception of one hole where the power lines cut across the fairway, it doesn't have too many dogtrack tendencies. Two suggestions: First, book an early time. I've walked Deer Creek by myself in 2:45. Second, don't bother playing a good ball on the first tee. The range runs along the right side of the hole and it's always covered with balls.

Thanks for the tips. Any time I play a hole that runs adjacent to a range I swap my ball for one with a contrasting color. My yellow Callaway Chromes stay in the bag on the opening hole at Glencoe, as they use yellow range balls.

I like it too. Haven't played it since 2016. I don't remember the greens being shaggy back then. Fun layout but nothing fancy. Price is right

Played Blackstone today due to the rain tomorrow. Left my wallet at home, but the manager let me play anyways and I called my credit card in afterward. That was much appreciated. Greens were quick for the spring and the course was dry due to lack of rain. I bogeyed the first five, then shot 34 on the back (my best 9 hole stretch ever!). Shot a 75 in 2 hours and 10 minutes. I started using 2017 ProV1s. Much better than other years in the wind and a few yards further than the older models. Great ball!

... Played Prairie Bluff yesterday and was a little disappointed in the conditions. Fairways are a little spotty, something I have never seen there, and the greens had been aerated with some kind of splotchy grass on the greens. Doesn't look like Poa but it is something invasive although it didn't influence putts a lot. After hitting 16 of 18 GIRs at Naperbrook I hit 14 of 15, only missing the 3rd, the most difficult green to hit with that damned pin up front. Landing area is the size of a kitchen table and if you are long getting over the hump, coming back over and stopping the ball is very difficult. So I went right at it but settled for short of the green and hit a pitch to 4 feet and just missed the putt on those aerated greens. Still all in all conditions were much better than Naperbrook.

... I was sitting at even thru 15 and hit a nice drive in the middle of the 16th fairway but the wind really picked up after being pretty gentle all days you guys know a rarity at PB. Hit a knockdown 5 iron fat, leaving a pitch over that bunker and bogie. Wind was hard right to left on 17 and at 152 I wanted to hit a full 9 iron over the edge of the water letting it drift back to the center but subconsciously I had that "not going in the water" moment and didn't release the clubbed starting it in the center of the green and the wind took it to the thick rough on the right resulting in another bogie. Big drive on 18 and the pin was almost off the green on the right, a position I have never seen it, and went right at it with a wedge but the wind pushed it right of the green and got up and down for par. After hitting 16 of 18 and 14 of 15, I missed the last 3 greens. Crazy game.

I have never heard of Blackstone.. Checked out the website, looks decent. Is it worth the hour+ drive from Naperville?

Blackstone is a $110 course if it's closer to the city, the drive kills it but as other said, worth it.
