I'm heading down to southern Indiana tomorrow for 6 rounds. I'll start at Otter Creek south of Indy, and then play Chariot Run, Sultans Run, Christmas Lake, Cambridge, and the University of Illinois GC on the way back. With Otter Creek and Chariot Run scratched off, I'll have played all the courses on Golfweek's Best in State (Indiana) list. Otter Creek will be my 450th course played.

Bear and I are playing Glen Erin and Blackstone on Sunday. When I factor in value, aesthetics, amenities, variety, conditioning and green speeds, both have found their way into my Chicagoland top 5. What? Janesville, WI is totally Chicago area.

I've always wanted to play Glen Erin. Might have to do that next weekend. I've heard good things.

Played arrowhead last week and this week. Course was in great shape and greens were rolling smooth however a bit slow. I'm not from the wheaton area but do they normally play slow?

I played it last week as well, and I agree the greens were on the slow side. They are usually some of the nicer greens around as far as public tracks go, I would say they roll between 10-11 most of the season.

What courses do the public golfers around the area recommend strictly based on the conditions of the greens? Makray Memorial is usually firm and fast. Stonewall and Cantigny are nice but you expect that there. Are there some sleepers out there I should check out, where the course may just be ok, but the greens are great?

This is a bit of a hike, but if you are looking for great greens check out Kankakee Elks...

TPC Northbrook on Saturday.

Midlane on Monday.

I feel like a part timer here.

TPC Northbrook..I have been on here awhile, and never mustered the courage to ask. What are you talking about? I feel like smalls on Sandlot "The Great Bambie?"

I believe he is ironically referring to Sportsman CC as TPC Northbrook.

Ah, gotcha. Thanks!

Checked out the Preserve this morning, they did a great job with the course and I can see it easily becoming one of the top courses in the area. Love the layout, love the green complexes ect. Good condition all around although you can still tell it's in it's early stages in life. Greens today were firm and hard to hold with approach shots but very slow. I can see some of those greens being very difficult to putt on if they get the speed up on them.

Blackstone is in excellent condition.

It always is. One of the few courses in the area that no matter the weather, it's bound to be in great shape.

It's not the best draining course. We've played some sloggy rounds there,
