Where are you playing tomorrow - Chicago (Round2)

Recommended Posts

I'm going to play Pine Meadow, mainly because time's limited and it's close to home.

And they don't aerate until the 25th of September.

Thunderhawk is verticutting today and tomorrow, FYI

Mt prospect aerated with small tines and topdressed (3/16" holes maybe) monday and tuesday this week, but the practice green rolled pretty well yesterday.

2:07 pm tomorrow if anyone wants to join...

Speaking of verticutting, the Port course at Harborside was verticut recently, but the greens still looked and rolled very nice if not a bit slow. No 3 putts but could not get off the tee consistently and limped in with an 82. Not sure what the Starboard greens are like, I was supposed to go off on that course as a single but the starter told me the Port was wide open and it was for 9 holes then came across the slowest foursome of old men playing a scramble I had to shoot past them, wound up playing with two nice, older black men that were fun to play with. I made 3 nice up in downs in a row after joining them they were pretty impressed with.

Refresh my memory. Does Cantigny allow walking on weekend mornings? I'm looking at an 8 am tee time on Sunday (Woodside/Lakeside).

I was at Cantigny yesterday practicing. Haven't played the course yet this year, but the range was in pretty rough shape. Let us know what kind of shape the course is in! Hard to imagine not good, but I have never seen the range so chewed up.

Lots of rain will do that

I feel like that is the only way to play there. Stands have to be up. That had to be great.

Yeah, it was a blast. Conditions were perfect. Here's a view of 18.

Headed to Cantigny tonight. They have a $40 rate for all you can play after 4pm. Not terrible.

Bman, any reason you can't get out on the Links Friday afternoon? Doing 2 on the links and 1 on the Woods is much more preferable.

White Hawk in Crown Point (Red/Silver) Sunday morning - never played there - looks like a TOUGH track.

Got an invite to play in a charity outing at Riverside Golf Club on Monday. Might have to go - another track I’ve never played.

Stopped by the Vernon Hills Golf Galaxy around lunch time today to hit the Titleist TS3 (should have them in stock on September 28, if anyone cares). They also mentioned that they are getting a second trackman in a week or so.

Also, right now they have a promotion where if you buy new grips they waive the service / installation charge (I.e. no labor cost).

The Silver nine at White Hawk has got to be one of the hardest nines in that part of the region. Played all 36 with a buddy back in the day, kept getting pissed off at what looked like good shots that would catch these "false sides" on greens and wind up on the collar leaving a tricky chip. Mentally exhausting. I didn't even play the last few holes on the Silver because it was nearly dark and was worried I'd lose my last sleeve of Pro Vs

I tried to search back if you posted at the time, but any course recommendations out there? I'll be in Scottsdale in Dec. I've grabbed some lists but wondering your thoughts.

The courses at We-Ko-pa are the best in the area in my opinion.

I've played pretty much every top course in the Phoenix area. We Ko Pa's two courses would be my top two choices. Troon North's two courses are a close 2nd. Southern Dunes in Maricopa is top notch. Boulders two aren't bad.

Love the course. Played it twice, once a week after the tourney. Awesome experience with the stadium up and course in perfect shape. Seems like people in AZ feel like it’s overrated but it’s one of my favorites. Maybe just because it’s not a true desert course.

Thanks. I'll probably play 4 mornings. WeKoPa for 2 seems like a must. I was looking at Southern Dunes and Greyhawk but maybe Troon is the answer.

Finally made it out to The Preserve. Great layout! Nice practice facilities. Yeah the greens were a little beat up, but considering how wet and hot the summer was, it’s hard to keep them in perfect condition on a course that gets as much play as it does. Round was a little slow, but mostly because of the difficulty of the course and the tall stuff right off the fairway. Only negative to this course is that it’s right over O’Hare’s flight pattern.

I really like the Oaks. It’s a cool design, with six par 3s and 5 par 5s. None of the 5’s or 3’s are super long so all the length is in the 4’s. It feels like it plays longer than the 6700 that’s listed on the card.

So how good was the decision to let Wade Davis go look now? I already thought a Marrow/Davis closing combo would be great, but I don't give a rats a** how much it costs the Cubs are loaded and letting Davis go was a big risk that is turning out to screw them. Damn..

You mean the Wade Davis of the 4.5 ERA, 6 losses and 6 blown saves? He got by on smoke and mirrors at the end last year, and for $17 mil a year that's too much for what he's doing right now. Morrow hasn't quite turned out, but I don't fault the logic, he was a steal until he got hurt. The move I didn't like in the pen was letting Hector Rondon go, at 5-6 mil a year. He's been solid this season. Now they're screwed.

The dude is pitching in Colorado AKA launch city! He has had 4 bad outings basically all year, each giving up a bomb. You take those away and he is totally solid again.

Why do you or I care about what Wade Davis is making? He is a great closer and the Cubs are swimming in cash, PAY THE MAN! This isn't Oakland I don't give a rats a** what it costs PAY THE MAN!

The 5th starter is very overrated and not a concern because you get into the playoffs and that guy isn't pitching anyway, you need the relievers and multiple ones. Didn't like the move then and certainly don't like the move now.

Our group's season has the second to last round scheduled tomorrow at Orchard Valley...or so I thought. On September 4th I booked tee times at OV through their website for 9/15. They sent confirmation emails for each of the tee times. On Wednesday 9/12, I called and confirmed the reservations with the pro shop. This afternoon I received an EMAIL from them saying "We have received and are processing your cancellation request for your tee times at Orchard Valley Golf Course on Saturday, September 15, 2018."

Wait a sec...I didn't cancel anything. Panic set in so I called the Pro Shop twice...no answer. I called the Head Pro...no answer. I called the GM...no answer. I called Golf Now, twice and they couldn't get anyone to answer the phone either.

I received a callback telling me they have TWO outings for Saturday and the options were to start at 5:45AM (sunrise is at 6:31 so we'd be playing in the dark to start) or they could possibly start us in the middle of the course at our tee time and that it was going to be a 5.5 - 6 hour round. No apology was offered, no acknowledgement of their errors...it was blamed on "a new Point of Sale System." Really? At least it wasn't "The Dog ate my tee time." The person I talked to also said they never sent an email cancellation either so I took a screenshot and sent it to him. His response..."well, I didn't send that." If we hadn't received that email we'd have showed up and had no tee times and would have been boofed.

It would have taken a considerable effort to be treated more poorly than I was treated. So incredibly disappointed that they didn't even offer a round of golf or even say they were sorry. I had the pleasure of golfing with Billy Casper in Bermuda about 20 years ago and have met few finer people in life. I can only imagine how disappointed he would be to have someone treated this way by his company.

Sadly, most people don’t associate Billy Casper with being a two time major champion or generally nice guy. Instead, they think of poorly-managed golf courses that stack as many tee times as possible on top of each other, pull crap like you just experienced, and offer no real effort at anything even remotely resembling customer service. All of those courses are staffed with patronage idiots who think words like “manners” and “tact” represent completely foreign concepts. There’s over 100 other public courses in the Chicago area, most of which are run far better than OV, GDN, Highland Woods (home of the secret tee time) or any other Billy Casper facility. I’d take my business elsewhere.

... To cancel a week before would suck, but the day before? How they did not just comp you all a round is beyond me. Unless this was booked thru golfnow. In that case, especially if you are a VIP member, I would take it up with customer service and they will definitely give you credit for some future rounds.
