Where are you playing tomorrow - Chicago (Round2)

Coyote Run this morning. Course was in nice shape. There were a few wet spots, but they were pretty rare. Fairways were shaggy with little rollout. Greens were slow, and in reasonable shape. Bunkers could use some sand in the lowest spots. I raked several footprints in the bunkers that weren't mine. No idea why some players find it so difficult to pick up a rake.

Ack. Worse round of the season. Only managed 5 fairways today, and 5 greens. A certifiable train wreck. 40 on the front, and then four doubles and two bogies on the back. It was a very nice day, though. Lol.

TPC-NBK, started off at sunrise. greens had been cut and rolled. some of the fairways hadn't been blown when we first started so there was a bit of shag clinging to the ball here and there but nothing serious.

surprised at how few really wet spots were left. found a few bunkers though escapes were pretty simple.

paired up with a team we knew and had a good time. bright skies, soft breeze, good chatter.

home by 9:30 for breakfast.

hope everyone had a great day out there.

What a great weekend of golf. No, not how I played but at least the weather was so nice. Our group played The Highlands Saturday. It was in great condition all things considering. VNutz started birdie-birdie, had another back to back set of birdies including a sweet up and down from the bunker in front of 14 and he probably could have had at least 2-3 more. He also told me I reminded him of a character from Austin Powers...Fat bastxxx. His response to why that character was he said I hit too many shots Fat and was just a bastxxx. You know, the young man was probably right on both counts.

Blackstone today. Still a fan. From the days when you played out of a trailer to now, still improving. There are no bad holes there with the possible exception of 5. A 200+ yard par 3 with such a narrow green is really a par 3.5. The greens were rolling fast, almost like mid summer. Few wet spots, well, that's what she said. Pace was great. If I need to criticize them for something, wash the range balls and let a small bucket be more than 17 balls.

We're 2 weeks out from a Sand Valley/Sentry World couple of days. Looking forward to it.

Very different courses! I am doing the same in July before they close for a few weeks for the US Women's JR tournament.

I realized recently that the fellow golfer in my office is part of your regular group. We just had a quick weekend recap and he told me about your HOE round, but most times I see your posts and know where he played over the weekend before he even tells me!

I got in 16 holes at Sunset Valley yesterday. It’s my first time since the re-design. I’ve played there a lot over the years (I used to coach at HPHS). The re design was obviously needed, the improved drainage alone makes it worth while. I have to say, I’m bummed by some of the tree removal. Especially around the 6th and 7th tees. They also removed the giant willow on 10. I’m sure it was for a reason, but that tree framed the hole nicely. The new black tees make the course play significantly longer. For new greens, I thought they’re really nice.

I like to think that you will be pleased with the courses. At a minimum the food and beverage selection at both locations will be very good. Maybe we will fatten you up.

> Very jealous. I know golf digest rankings can be picked apart, but I for one am very interested to see where Mammoth Dunes lands in their next public rankings. I'd be shocked if it isn't in the top 15 with the high praise it has received from just about everyone. They have the $105 rate until the 15th or so, then they have another tier, not full price until June. Thought about trying to go up this Saturday but plans fell through.

Rankings came out. Both SV courses in the top 30 - Mammoth 27, SV 18. Cog still at 51, it may never move, I find it hard to believe there are only 50 courses better than dubs in the country. I know more goes into Golf Digest rankings and they aren't the end all be all, but I enjoy looking into this stuff.

Headed to Harbor Country this weekend. We’re playing Beeches, which I’ve never played but which looks okay, and Hawkshead, which I enjoyed last year. In Spring they have a walking rate. It’s only $10 off but $35 for that course is solid value.

Played Green Gardens (gold course) yesterday with bil. It was like we had the course to ourselves. I had not played this course in years and I have to say, they really have stepped it up. Course was in very good condition. Played like crap in the front 9 but at least got my sh@t together in the back 9 (54/42).

Isn't the gold mostly the old course at the gardens? I pretty much learned to play there - lots of good memories. LOL!

Ah - okay - you just don't see much mention of the Gardens anywhere. BTW, I was one of the guys from the GEA; you got me into your brother's group at Cog. Guess that fell apart but your brother was a good guy to get a round in with.

The Cog group went from 1991-1018. Had a good run. I'll let my bro know we bumped into each other on this forum.

I can attest to the greens at fox bend in Oswego rolling at 11.5 - 12 on the stimp for the CDGA mid am qualifier. Pretty darn fast for my liking. I need to get out to sentry, blackstone and stonewall orchard - three I'm trying to get in this year

This will shock you coming from me but I'm serious. Randall Oaks is a fun layout with a nice mix of holes. The park district has done a bunch of drainage work over the past 5 years to significantly improve the overall quality of the course. The conditions are generally 8.5/10 at a minimum if not better. It's one of the regular courses in our group's event rotation. We're not talking Medinah #3 here but a really good park district course at a pretty decent rate.

I like the front 9 at Oaks, but the back is pretty meh. Agree on the conditioning though. The times I've played it the course was in excellent shape, especially the greens.

Played on Thursday night for league at Randall. We were on the back nine. 15 fairway was flooded. Pro emailed us in the am and said they got 2+ inches overnight. It was a last minute call to play our round cause we’ve already had 2 of 6 weeks cancelled. Unfortunately all the courses have had to deal with all this water so far this spring.
