Yup. He's one of the owners. He is up there everyday hanging out and interacting with people. His brother is the head professional up there as well. Such a great guy. Jim Robo Cop Thornton was there too! Saw him hitting balls. He's the club champion from what Jay said.

Scramble tomorrow at Ravisloe. We shot 54.

54 is the score to be announced as we walk in the clubhouse. Later when all other cards are turned in, we realise our arithmetic error and the sub-50 scorecard is posted....

Played Strawberry Creek in Kenosha yesterday. That place is incredible. Not a blade of grass out of place. Greens rolled fast and true. Owner Jay Hilgenberg was incredibly nice and chatted with us for a while. If I lived a bit closer I'd be a member for sure!! Just awesome.
Great pics. There is a lot of other good holes out there. You did get some good ones.

Its a fun course with lots of options. I was talking to my friend that is a member out there and he wishes they had a split tee (blue/gold) set up.

Yeah a good challenge from all tees. Blue gold setup would be good. Couple of those par 3's are long and with the wind they were playing 220+ yesterday. Fun stuff!

The two par 3's on the backside always seem long. I think into the wind on 12 I hit a 7 wood, short. Holes 10 - 12 are a good challenge. If you make it through there without much damage, there are only a few other spots on the backside that could cause problems.

Hole 5 got me good because of a horrible tee shot... Besides that mess of a quad, life was good.

I'm playing Carriage Greens CC in Darien, IL on saturday, anyone play there before?
A couple of times, on my do not play list. Used to be a lot better but the past few times I've been there it's been really run down. I think their focus now is on weddings and banquets rather than the golf. Shaggy fairways, even shaggier greens, water in bunkers weeks after rains.

They renovated it last year. Haven't played it this year but played it last year and it was in good shape.

Played with RoboCop in a charity event about 8 years ago. He can play a bit - was still all ripped up back then and could move it a ways.

Was a good dude.

Other then the fact I got my second ever hole in one at CG, I have nothing good to say about the course. Is it the absolute worst I've ever played? No - that distinction belongs to Country Lakes in Naperville...
Did get out to Old Oak this afternoon - part of an outing/tournament/boozefest, whatever you want to call it. Shot 76 - enough to get low gross, which felt like being the tallest midget, but I digress. Course - tee to green - was ok, but the greens were shaggy. It didn't help that we played in the afternoon. Will be back there next Friday for another "tournament". Hopefully the conditions improve...

Played Glencoe yesterday after work with 3 friends, shot a 91, 3rd round this year over 90. A week removed from shooting 80 and 83 on the same course.

So, i went home and on a hunch I decided to take a look at my scores for the past couple months and see what my scores are when I play with friends vs when I play with strangers vs when I play with my wife. The results are unfortunate, but exactly what I expected.

When I play with friends my scoring average since July 1st is 87.33.
When I play with my wife I score an average of 83
When I play with total strangers or by myself my average is 80.63.

So I obviously lack the mental capacity to focus when I'm out there with my buddies. I think I'm gonna start phasing my friends out of my golf life to an extent. As much as I like hanging out with them and having a good time, at the end of the day I have much more enjoyment in my solo/stranger rounds than I do struggling to break 90 with my buddies.

I'm the same way, zer0. I can play a relaxed round with a perfect stranger and go low, but when I join a friend it's a train wreck. I try too hard.

The only time I stink it up with a stranger is when they're playing really slow, and the group behind us is on our tails. I get it in my head that I have to hurry up to pick up our group's pace, with bad results.

Country Lakes is better known for some of the "special" events that used to take place on the course about 10 years ago. They used to put tarps around the perimeter of the course so you couldn't see what happened on certain holes.

This link is NSFW but an entertaining read.

When my buddy owned a bar in Orlando he used to host a stripper golf outing every year, but it was held on a secluded course with no houses around. Plus, its Florida where anything goes. No stripper caddies, but every couple holes there'd be some naked girls on the green. Also, naked beverage cart girls. My one buddy paid $20 for a "cart ride". You drive the cart while the naked stripper sits facing you on the steering wheel. The path was so bumpy that he ended up with whiplash from getting slammed in the face by her crotch repeatedly.

It's been going on longer than that. I had a high school match there in 96 where one of these was going on. The minute our bus pulled in the lot you knew something different was going on. It was a Make a Wish outing. Girls in little clothing, often nothing were everywhere, and the neighborhood kids knew it and were out and watching. They put the outing out just ahead of us so they were on adjacent holes right next to us. It was crazy, probably the highlight of the season for out team. There are guys from the team that I can still say "I'll make a wish" to and they'll immediately know what I'm referencing. I got flashed on a hole, then promptly birdied it. Good memories.

Doctors appointment today at 3 at University of Chicago, think if I can get out of there by 3:30 I might be able to make it somewhere by 4. Don't want to play Jackson Park. Do I have any other options that would work? I'm thinking Harborside, could probably get there in time to tee off and finish. Any courses I'm forgetting?
