Another ho hum start to the season at George Dunne. 73 with birdies on 10, 11 and 12. Greens were running slow but true.

Ran into ChicagoLefty there after the round. He was looking quite fit.

I had visions of going low today....

-4 after 9 holes then proceeded to sh!t the bed.

Finished 1 over. Highlands was pretty dry all things considering.

Greens on the slow side but putts were makeable.

Walked a round at Glencoe this morning. It was nice to shake off some of the winter rust. The course was spongy, and damp in the early morning, but playable. The greens were running about a 6. Ugh. I think I got the ball to the hole twice all day. 'Poor day driving the ball, but it never got me into serious trouble. My iron play was spot on thankfully.

'Nice to be back out.

Playing HoE tomorrow morning. And plan on being Buzzed by the 2nd tee shot...

Thursday the HoE site said they were opening April 12. Thought that was a crazy long time but never occurred to me that they put the wrong month! Haha play well

Yeah GolfNow and their website was messed up from what I heard.

I had to book the time by calling them.

There was nobody out there today. Perfect day.

Played Coyote Run yesterday and shot a 78. Was -1 after about 11 holes, then my game fell off. The course was in pretty good shape for this time of year, and the greens actually were not too bad. Got 18 in, in about 3 hours which was nice.

Springbrook has taken over 200 trees down. Very different course now.

Wow. Wind damage? Disease?

There were several dozen downed trees at Glencoe. The wood looked healthy, so I imagine it was the rash of wind storms we had in recent weeks.

Got 9 in at Springbrook on Friday. Walking only. Only time this year i'll play it due to the draconian singles attitude.

Course was as expected. Fariways not cut, random trees down everywhere, greens aerated and super hairy. The amount of goose droppings everywhere makes for a lot of pick and clean.

Honestly, didnt really care. To play golf this early, this was expected.

Half the parking lot at George Dunne is filled with 20' mountains of wood chips. On the course I noticed only 1 big tree felled. Lots of trees there I guess.

Hit Ruffled on Friday. No tee markers were out. Greens were very slow. Not my favorite place to play, but conditions were good overall for the time of year.

A lot were related to the emerald ash bore but they took out some non-ash trees including a set that had at least 2 pairs of nesting hawks for the last few years. There are even more marked for removal.

The willows do have a shelf life and a couple were on the edge of a pond and certain to be down with the next storm/erosion.

Got shut out this weekend, but no complaints really. Took the kids to the Dells for a little getaway, and go figure the 3 days we spent inside at the waterpark were the 3 best days of the year thus far. Was planning to sneak out Sunday and get a round in, but the weather nixed that. Hoping the weather holds out for the first round of the year this coming Saturday, but that might end up being a very cold and mushy round.

Side note: planning a water park trip which exhausts yourself and your children on the same weekend as the spring forward time change, really bad idea.

maybe they need a bell like on chalet #7, which is used by group on green to alert other players when they've cleared the green.

I do second (third?) tree removal as being required at Big Run.

speaking of which, I've been following the renovation work at Oak Meadows.

I'm not sure how much tree removal will be done on the "old" Oak Meadows holes 1 and 2, as well as 17 and 18.

2 is especially tight with overhanging branches.

it should be interesting as they are nearing completion of salt creek restoration work, and will soon transition to course work and shaping of the new holes

I don't know how much work is being done to that section as it's a little set off from the rest of the course, but driving by there it certainly looks like a lot of the trees in the middle of the course are torn out, looks pretty open when I drive by.

Be nice if Big Run did a little tree trimming. Holes 1, 9, 12 (especially 12) and 18 could really use it.

Hole 5 needs to have the tree in front of the tee box removed, if you are playing back it's not only a tight shoot to drive through but it really forces a lot of drives into the bunkers.

I say get rid of the damn tree on 18 altogether :).

Blow that course up and make it a parking lot for all I care. Hate that course, I couldn't break 90 on that course even with a 5th of bourbon in ma belly.

No, no, no!!!!! I played my first round EVER at Big Run 10-11 years ago. Some 120+ strokes later I was hooked! That was when they actually had a starter, GPS in carts, and a sign on 11 to limit yourself to 4 putts. Oh, the good ole' days.

Big Fun, I mean Big Run, is a Chicagoland classic. Yes, some of the holes are ridiculously hard. The fairways are too tight, and some of the greens are insanely severe. I think we get jaded because new courses are more polished. If they gave the course a hair cut, trimmed some of the trees, it would be great. For under $50, you can't beat it.

Big Run. Let's do it! Highly recommend a few hours in the bar beforehand though. It will keep us in a good mood.
