Looking for a country club in the DFW area.

I currently belong to a 36 hole facility in Wichita Kansas and live in a villa close to the course. I have no idea where to even start looking, definitely would rather live in a suburb with less traffic. I currently pay around 750 for membership and food minimum. Any ideas are welcome thanks

Without any idea of where you're going to live/work and what kind of course/club you'd like to join, its awfully difficult to help.

Good luck in not being crowded, but Frisco or McKinney offers two good clubs with Stonebridge having 45 holes and one is a Pete Dye course, both are nice. Also Stonebriar has 36 holes and one is a Fazio design. Also close by there is the TPC at Craig Ranch.

I'm assuming that's 750/month.

Most popular suburbs on the Dallas side of DFW are Richardson, Plano, Wylie, Murphy, Frisco, Propser, Mckinney, and Allen. SEVERAL clubs in the area. I've attempted to give my knowledge of the private clubs in these general areas below,

Expensive Clubs: (15-50K initiation, 400-800 dues)
Gleneagles in West Plano, Two courses, extremely nice clubhouse, great range, ok shortgame area. Fairly crowded, great location right off tollway
Stonebriar in Frisco. Two courses, GREAT practice facilities, extremely nice clubhouse, wait list from what i've heard. Great club overall
Bent Tree in Far North Dallas. One course. Top notch conditions, exquisite clubhouse. I've heard it's really crowded considering the cost
TPC Craig Ranch in Mckinney. Golf Club only. No country club amenities. Probably top 3 course in the area for me (i have not played Preston Trail or Dallas National).
The Lakes at Castle Hills - Lewisville/Carrollton area (close to Plano). Recently went private. Have not seen the new facilities since going private. Reputation is that it is a great country club.

Clubs from $0 initiation - $15K (300-500 dues)
Stonebridge Ranch in Mckinney Dye course is one of the most challenging courses in DFW and maybe Texas. It's a separate club from the 27 Hole "Hills" facility. You can get a great deal here.
Canyon Creek Richardson ( i belong here). You can get in on a great deal here
Prestonwood - (Dallas course and West Plano Course) - Decent courses, signficant renovations going on
Brookhaven in Farmer's Branch, 3 courses VERY crowded


All of the following clubs are part of clubcorp. You can sparingly play at other clubs in the network once you join one of these. Of course there are certain restrictions on days you can play and that varies depending on which club you join.

Much of this depends on where you want to live (obviously you want to have a convenient club near you) and how much you want to spend on an initiation fee. Some clubs in Dallas have $150K+ initiation fees (such as DNCC), and some clubs are basically impossible to join (such as DCC). Many of the courses have policies for junior membership which sometimes cuts your initiation down to the <10-15K range if you join before age 40.

I am a member of Trophy Club Country Club and live here as well. If you are under 40 your dues would be around $325 per month with unlimited use of their carts.
