Looking for Feedback on Canyon Creek CC & Prestonwood CC

I've recently been considering joining a club to have access to nicer facilities and good practice area. I also figured this would be a good way to get my family involved in golf and tennis. I have young kids, so acceptance of them participating in the sports by the membership is important too. I figure as much as I spend on golf, it's not a whole lot more to have access to a club. I have a fairly limited budget, so the higher initiation dues clubs are a no go for me. These two clubs are pretty much about 5 - 10 minutes away from my house, which is a must to really get a lot of use out of them, especially by my family. I'm a single digit handicap, currently high single digits, but fluctuate down to low single digits. I would want there to be other players at the club that are in this range too. Since I will not know anyone at the club, I'll pretty much be looking for others to play with. I really don't want to be stuck playing with complete duffers (this was the case for my round at Canyon Creek).

My impression of Canyon Creek was that is was very family friendly. However, I was pretty unimpressed with the course and the practice facilities. However, the course would be adequate to be a challenge. It seems like a generally friendly environment too.

Prestonwood looked like they did not have quite as many facilities (tennis and pool) as Canyon Creek. However, the renovations that ClubCorp is doing looks like the clubhouse will by much nicer. The creeks golf course seems like it is more of a focus and nicer as well. I haven't played the creeks course, but have played the hills course. It was a decent course, but did have some quirky holes. That's not really a deal breaker though. I know with my available budget, that's what I have access too. It did look like a fairly tight course, which is what I think I need to really test my game and improve. Also, with the renovations they are doing, I can get a pretty good deal for joining.

Any insight into these clubs would be very helpful.

I've played the hills for a tournament and Canyon Creek last week. I thought Canyon Creek was not as good overall. Yes, the hills had some quirky holes, but the overall golf course seemed better. My view of the creeks, without playing it, was that it was fairly tight and tree lined with not very many houses surrounding the course. Also, no crossing streets when going from hole to hole. Either way, I think I would be OK with the courses. Neither of the clubs were bad enough to completely cross them off the list.

So Prestonwood is currently renovating their driving range to increase the hitting bays and shift the aimpoint further away from the 7th hole. Plus they are adding a bunch of trees to help block it out as well. They are also adding another short game green/area. They are also shifting the 1st tee box and the 9th green over to accommodate this. Since these areas are currently under renovation, along with the back patio area, this is where the better deal for joining comes in. They say that the renovations will be complete in October.

Anyway, does anybody have any idea about how these clubs compare for the other amenities and activities for the family?

I've been a member at PWCC for about a month now. So far I like it, but agree on the quirky holes. still have not figured out a good way to play #10 at the Hills...

    • In-hand photos of 2023 TaylorMade Stealth 2 Plus, Stealth 2, Stealth 2 HD drivers + fairways woods
Check out our front page launch stories here and here.

What you need to know: For the first time, carbon is the most prevalent material by volume in a TaylorMade driver, and more carbon equals better performance, says the company. Last year, TaylorMade debuted a 60X Carbon Twist Face. With TaylorMade Stealth 2, engineers are bringing carbon to more of the golf club — and unveiling a new-and-improved Carbon Twist Face in the process. Stealth 2 Plus (low spin, most workable) Stealth 2, and Stealth 2 HD (draw bias, high launch, most forgiving) drivers make up the Stealth 2 family.

What you need to know: Breakthrough movable weight technologies and versatile designs are the hallmarks of the 2023 TaylorMade Stealth 2 fairway woods. Stealth 2 Plus is branded as “three fairway woods in one” owing to the unique performance characteristics afforded by the 50-gram sole weight. Stealth 2 features a slightly lower profile 3D carbon crown than Stealth. This moves CG down and away from the toe with more weight in the rear of the club for higher launch and MOI. Ultra-high MOI Stealth 2 HD features an oversized 200cc head and low-profile sole, creating an easy-to-hit, draw-biased club.
