915 D2 Rogue Silver

Today I had a fitting for the 915 D2 driver. My current driver is a 910 D2, 10.5 degrees with a stiff adila RIP alpha shaft. We tried a few shafts at the fitting but the best numbers were with the Adila Rogue Silver (110 MSI) 60 X Stiff in a 9.5 degree head to keep the spin rate down at around 3,100 RPM. Based on the fitting, the fitter has recommended I actually go for the 70 X Stiff instead to reduce spin/dispersion further but he didn't have one to trial today.

I've looked at a lot of articles on line this afternoon and based on every one there's no way my 100 mph swing speed should be compatible with an X stiff shaft. Does anyone on the forum have any explanation for what seems to be an outcome that is at odds with science!? Do you think I should just ignore the science and go with the numbers?

Interesting question. Maybe the rogue has low torque or is not as stiff as other x stiff? how did you hit the 60 X?

Really liked the Rogue 60X and it had the best numbers of the combinations I tried. The Rogue 70X he recommended is 6g heavier than the 60X and also has lower torque (2.8 v 3.1) which is why he said he was confident it would reduce my dispersion even more despite not having seen me hit it.

I just received my 915 D2. It has the Rogue Black 60, S-flex. That shaft seemed a little whippy to me, more like a soft stiff, but I hit it great - high fades which is what I prefer to play. It is definitely weaker than the Tour Green I was fitted for last year in my 913 D2. I liked the specs on the Rogue and wanted a shaft with a lower bend point but I was a little nervous about the feel (softness) of it when I got it. I really thought I'd be blowing this thing all over the place when I took it out to the course. However, it was incredibly consistent, whether I swung it smooth, or jumped on it. So it may be that your "X" plays more like an S+

Swing speed really doesn't matter for shaft flex, at all. Swing speed just effects feel. A shaft that is 'too' stiff for your swing will feel less active. Some people like to feel the shaft bending more, some like it to feel it less. If your distances change with flex, your swing has changed, it's not the shaft.

The 70 may or may not reduce your spin. If it does it will be due to weight, but there is a pretty small difference... Torque, like flex just impacts feel, not dispersion. A few years ago lowering torque was the in thing to do, to decrease dispersion and all kinds of other awesome things. But turns out it doesn't. Low torque does make a shaft feel boardy though, which almost no one likes. Which is why the current hot shafts on tour have significantly more torque. The most recent hot shaft, the KK XT, is basically a D+/Whiteboard with way more torque.

I'd be very hesitant to buy an expensive shaft without trying it, even if it's just a weight change of the same shaft.

I think I would be inclined to just get the 60 x if you didn't hit the 70 x.

Yeah that's what I thought just s strong stuff shaft feel almost. I play a pro force v2 86 g x stiff and there is like no whippy in it lol it's like a telephone pole. Not sure you want something that isn't that far stiff but a happy medium if that makes sense??

  • 2 weeks later...

I am in the market for a new driver and have been reading up on the 915 D3. I typically just read reviews and simply buy clubs without trying them out which has worked out for me. Minus buying a new set of irons I haven't really made a big $$$ purchase. So when it came to looking at a new(er) drive I liked everything I read and even went to the nearby PGA store to hit it. There were only 2 guys working the simulators so I simply just asked to hit the Demo club while they tended to other customers. First shots were all over the place because it was the first time hitting into a simulator off of turf. Swing speeds were 107-115 range and dont recall exact numbers but rpms were low and getting 15-20yrds of roll. Getting back on topic, now that I am close to purchasing a driver I am curious as to which shaft. Didnt pay attention to numbers on the demo but know it was black and stiff flex (9.5). Current shaft is Proforce V2 (stiff, 76g, 2.2* torgque). Looking on the site, the shaft that closely resembles mine is the silver. Im not really capable of spending a couple hours in a simulator with work and everything. Thanks for any ino.

    • Sony Open Pics from January 11, 2022 Part 1
I was able to get out to the Sony Open today to take a few pics.  I guess due to Covid precautions they kept the spectators pretty far from the players.  Also due to camera restrictions they've put in place, I wasn't able to bring the big lens like I normally do. Hopefully they'll ease up on the ropes and I'll be able to get more pics tomorrow!
