Feedback on Maltby irons & wedges

Hi,

I've been looking at the iron and wedge sets available at

www.golfworks.com

and the looks/value etc look good.

Has anyone here purchased/tested/seen any of their products and rated them versus your big name manufacturers?

I'm looking at replacing my 2013 X-Forged with the

http://www.golfworks.com/product.asp_Q_pn_E_PMA0226

MMB Forged or the

http://www.golfworks.com/product.asp_Q_pn_E_PMA0099

TE Forged with matching wedges to gap my set more consistently.

Thoughts?

I played the OG MMB's for 5+ seasons. I tried replacing them, in true club ho fashion, numerous times. They are dented, dinged, rusted on the sole of a few clubs due to an ill fated experiment of rounding off the leading edge of the toe. The obly reason i havent continued to use them or buy an updated version is i was chosen to go on the RSI launch event and received the 2's at no cost. Im STILL considering buying a set of the heads. Just to have as it seems they may no longer make these.

Ive also played around with the TE although they were tge previous version and that name escapes me at the moment. Great clubheada, very similar at address to the MMBs.

I've also played maltby wedges, fairways drivers and hybrids in the past. Ive never had an issue with the quality. A few clubs havent performed well for me but thats true no matter what name is stamped on it.

Im a big big fan if their equipment and the man who created them.

I just found the MPF Playability chart and compared my X-Forged to the MMB-17 with interesting numbers by their standard. X-Forged rated at 373 or Classic (0-5 Handicappers) and the MMB-17 (forged MuscleBack) comes in at 714 or Super Game Improvement. Seems that based on this I could get all the benefits of Super Game improvement in a classic looking forged head, now to get the funds released to purchase before they are no longer available me thinks.

I built and have gamed the OG mmb's with project x 5.5 for the last three years and love them. Classy look and easy to hit. I was late tot the party so when I wanted a gap wedge they no longer had the mmb's but I did order the mmb-17 gap wedge and it's just as good in my opinion. Also have gamed m-series and tricept wedges and a long time ago the ke4 irons when I started getting into the game. I'm looking to build hybrids, fw and driver soon. Love their stuff.

No feedback on the irons but the hybrids are quality. Kill mine. Solid and straight.

I've played golf with quite a few guys using Malby equipment and I've had the chance to hit quite a few Malby clubs. All I can say is that Malby makes quality products that I would not hesitate to put in my golf bag. In fact, I've been considering putting together a Malby back up back for years. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

I've played 2 iron models from Maltby (Logic Pro Tours and currently have a set of DBMs in the bag). Although my experience w/ other iron manufacturers is limited compared to most on this board, the DBMs are by far the best irons that I've ever seen/hit. The design fits my eye perfectly (thin topline, low offset, and the finish is awesome), and the performance (feel, distance, forgiveness) is up there with any other iron head I've tried.

I've never tried their drivers, hybrids, or wedges though.

I built one of the sti 8 irons and love it. Will replace my Callaway x-24 irons with these. They are forgiving yet more compact visually.

I'm very curious about the Sti's. How does the offset look in person?

I currently have a set of the Maltby TE forged 4-GW in my bag, with Maltby MG Tour Grind 56 & 60 wedges. They look great, and the quality is excellent. As good as anything from the big brands. I've also built and used other Maltby products, including a set of the 2007 MMB irons (gave them to my son, who loves them). Would definitely recommend giving Maltby a look.

I built and played a full season with the TE forged iron heads a few years ago. They were beautiful, easy to hit and had a consistent, minimal offset. Good quality. They were buttery, super soft.

Here's the downside - when you build them they are yours for life. They have zero resale ability and extremely low trade in values. The other thing with their forged irons is bag chatter. The forgings are super soft and tend to get that banged up, chattered look quickly.
