Your Current Driver and Why?

I have had a change in driver since the last time I posted on this topic. I changed due to some mis-hit performance issues I had with the Fly-Z+. That Fly-Z+ was the best driver I had ever owned at that time but sometimes I got too little spin and the ball would just fall out of the air.

I ended up selling it and went on a driver search earlier this year. After a lot of testing and by accident, I ended up with the Callaway BBA 816 DBD. I like the shape and sound so much better. I actually get much better ball speeds too (about 5-7 mph more). My spin numbers are also more consistent. Overall, this is the best and longest driver I have ever owned. Nice surprise and an easy switch.

Tour Edge Exotics XCG7 Beta with a Matrix Black Tie shaft. Got it on BST towards the end of last year and I just absolutely love the thing. I can keep it lower into the wind, or I can really air it out when the breeze is behind. Plus it doesn't generate too much spin for me so I'm finally getting roll out on my drives

r15 430 9.5, diamana D+ 70. why? I went from 2900 bs to 2200. i do think that i should have gone to 8.5 as my 9.5 is turned down to 8.0 anyway and am still intrigued about trying the m1 430 in 8.5 with the same shaft.

would love to hear if anyone else made the switch i'm considering or something similar.

Switched from a SLDR to M1. Main reasons are: all of the good reviews I heard and my future brother in law works for Adidas corporate so I got it at a good price.

Recently switched back to SLDR. In the last 18 months I went: RBZ Tour -> SLDR -> G30 -> SLDR -> M1 -> SLDR.

SLDR has better spin characteristics than RBZ or G30, and wasn't much different distance-wise from M1 - except M1 has a significantly more shallow face and I tend to miss higher on the face, so I was close to the dummy mark a couple times.

SLDR with my HZRDUS is what I like to call my low spin combo, and finds fairways.

R7 Quad TP with RIP Beta X at 44". Tried all the latest and greatest. Nothing allows me to work it like this one. High, low, draw, fade. Almost like I just think about it and it happens. Love this thing!

But I did hit an M1 430cc w/ Kuro Kage X the other day that was "WOW". Still can't move the ball like the old one but the dead straight, additional 30 yards is hard to ignore. That thing is scary long. Seriously thinking about it.

Playing the Cobra LTD set at 9.5 with an Aldila Rogue shaft.

Why? Well with a normal swing I have a one sided miss. That miss is to over draw it a smidge, but only 10 or so yards. It lowered my spin, but is also forgiving.

I had other drivers with a one sided miss(draw), but I couldn't hit a fade with any consistency. I can hit a fade when I want to, but my stock swing goes straight to straight draw and my miss goes to a big draw. My M1 was similar with only a one sided miss, but that miss ranged from a 30 yard hook, to a slap hook 20 feet off the ground.

TM M2 9.5 Fujikura Pro60 stiff. Finally decided to get fit for a driver. I bought the Alpha 815 without getting fit and returned it within a week. I was losing so much distance it was insane. I went with the M2 over the M1 because the way I had the weights in the M1 the M2 was basically the same. I just can't seem to get behind all the moveable weights on drivers these days. They make me think too much. Oh, since I hit it right I should move the weight this way. I think that was too much spin, I should move this weight that way. Without the weights on the M2 I can concentrate more on my swing, and less on how I can finagle my driver to fix the problem.

G LS Currently Rogue 70x but got an AD GP en route and an Xphlexxx Agera waiting to pull the trigger. Had a G30 (Non LS) that I loved but just tended to balloon on me at times. G LS to replace it and because of spin picked up an extra 15-20 yards just by not backing up my driver in the fairway. It's firmly in the bag now until she misbehaves. Honestly its straighter than my G30, actually cuts instead of snap hooks when I put a bad swing on it. A lot more controllable.

The original R-7 quad, 8.5* with the Fujikua speeder757. Bought it when first available, and it has been employed since. Gimmicks set to square and can hit it high, low, left or right on command. Havent found anything that feels or hits better(to me).

All the big heads have no feel. If anyone can relate to what I jut said here, but still has any drivers on their mind think I should try, I am all ears. I just updated my old blades, would consider a driver......maybe.

I'm playing the Callaway DBD 816 Bertha 9* with a Kiyoshi Purple Oban 55 gram stiff shaft. Very accurate and long. I like the compact look the feel and the distance I'm getting. It took me a few rounds to get it all dialed in but it's not going anywhere now. I also have a Kamuri KM-200 with Fijukura double kick reg. flex shaft which is a beauty and this is the best feeling driver I've ever hit. I wanted to find that one adjustable driver that I could hit consistently and the DBD 816 is it. So I have 2 favorites

Currently gaming a Titleist 910D2. It was a hand-me-down from my brother in-law last year and took the place of a 909D2 that he handed down to me as well.

I am consistently inconsistent with this club, but that is more me than the club. Although, I am a bit iffy on the shaft fit for me, I am sticking with it for this season and hope with some work and practice I gain some consistency. And, hopefully before next season, I can swing a new driver, maybe for x-mas.

Got the Krank F-5 with a tour UST in the bag that I just love. The damn thing sounds like you just hit a fence post with a softball bat and goes further than I can point. I like that in a driver. I have the Old R7Q in rotation and agree, never been a better driver. That and my RS12 54* Mizuno wedge are the two clubs that I will be buried with.

Callaway Big Bertha Alpha 815 with PX LZ 6.0. Pulled the trigger on one when had two REALLY bad rounds with SLDR and got tired of not having something forgiving in my bag.

So far so good. 4 rounds with it and I am seeing more distance and accuracy than SLDR already. And this is really inspiring some serious confidence. I have to admit it's really nice to pull the driver pretty much knowing it's going to end up exactly where I intended.

Prices have already dropped and are about to again since new models are coming out.

Currently -$200 new
