Golf in Nepal

A few friends of mine are considering a golf trip to Nepal in November. Gokarna Forest Resort is specifically where we are considering to go. It was unaffected by the recent events there and I was just checking to see if anyone had been there before?

 

I know it's a bit off the beaten path, but it seems that it might be a diamond in the rough.

Just wanted to see if anyone in the forum has played here? My friends have decided to go back to Nepal at the end of this month to play and I think I will go with them. If not, I will definitely report back :)

I played four courses in Nepal a few years back

 

Gokarna and Royal Nepal in Kathmandu

 

Yeti's course and Himalayan in Pokhara

 

All were worth playing. I don't know if they were affected by the earthquake

 

 

If you do go to all the way to Kathmandu then you absolutely must go the extra 200 miles to Pokhara. The Himalayan course is unforgettable you will literally never forget playing there. It was about $50US including caddy and clubs. It took me about 4 1/2 hour to play on an otherwise empty course. It's very physically draining. The best golf experience I have ever had. It calls itself "The Most Amazing Golf Course in the World" and actually lives up to the billing. It's worth the trip to Nepal on its own. Google it and you'll see what I mean.

 

The Yeti course across town is not in the same class but has two holes across a ravine you are not likely to forget in a hurry. The rest of it is like a paddock. Overgrown and very rough the fairway was nothing but a thin strip mowed down the middle. If I ever went back I'd play the other one twice rather than play that again

 

Pokhara is a nice place there's a whole bunch to do there like hang-gliding

 

The two Kathmandu courses are good enough. Royal Nepal you should play during the week as it gets extremely crowded. It's right in the middle of town about 200 yards from the airport. Only nine holes but worth a hit if you're in the area. You probably have better courses in your neighbourhood

 

The Gokarna is an excellent course away from the dust and noise of Kathmandu.

 

Out of ten I'd give them...

 

Himalayan 10/10

Gokarna 8/10

Royal Nepal 3/10

Yetis 1/10

It's about 100 metres across and 100 metres straight down. That spit of land you tee off from is tiny
