Best courses in Twin Cities, MN

Haven't played Minneapolis Golf Club since the bunker work was done, but my pro was out there last week and said the work was very good.

All I know is that it is nice to be talking golf rather than talking snow.

Played The Wilds for the first time for their "pay the temp" rate a few weeks back. Nice course and it was in good shape. Pretty tough layout (I think the slope was 156 from the tips.) We walked it, which was quite a hike on some holes. Lots of hills, -especially the front 9. The back 9 was a little easier to walk, but there were a LOT of houses on the back, which takes away from the experience. It was worth the discounted rate, but I would never drive all the way down there again and pay full price. Very good test of golf overall though.

Played the Refuge last weekend and it was in good shape. No winter kill to speak of.

Mr. Divots,

I totally agree on The Wilds. It's a great place to play once in the spring and once in the fall on a pay the temp deal -- especially if you can get it for 55 or so -- but the regular price is way too steep.

I'm heading to Minnesota next week, I'll be staying in Lindstrom. I'm going to try to play twice while I'm out there. If you had to choose two golf courses to play what are they, I understand there are a couple courses just over the border in Wisconsin that may be worth checking out as well. Any help would be appreciated!

White Eagle$$$ and Troy Burne$$$$ are just across the border in Hudson Wi. Both are great courses. They are also close to an hours drive from Lindstrom. Some courses you may want to consider that are closer are Tanners Brook $$ in Forest Lake or StoneRidge $$$ in Stillwater. All kinds of choices in the metro area.

What price range and how far are you willing to drive?

Some "goodies" in MN metro area:

Troy Burne

Stoneridge

Chaska Town Course

Rush Creek

The Refuge

Willingers

The Wilds

Try the Meadows at Mystic Lake.

Big course from the tips.

I agree. Played it in a stiff wind and it played long. But the casino looming in the background on so many holes is kind of distracting and not appealing to me.

I like Rush Creek. Not really a lot of houses to speak of on it. Stoneridge is a good one in that regard also. Troy Burne is a solid pick too. Good luck on Hazeltine! :partytime2:

Take a look at Bunker Hills GC. It's not that far from where your staying. The course is in great shape and it's not too far from where your staying. This course used to host a Champions tour event before the TPC Twin Cities was built. No Houses!

Good call on Bunker. No houses and lots of tall pine trees. Play weekday though if possible. Weekends can be brutally slow there.

Tanner's Brook is up the direction of Lindstrom in Forest Lake. Semi-links style, no houses, greens are usually good. Not expensive.

Thanks for the responses gentleman, I do appreciate it. I've made up my mind on one of the courses and that's Troy Burne, it's looks pretty challenging and I'll probably never make it to Wisconsin again, so I might as well play out there once.

As for the second choice, you guys have made it pretty tough to choose just one. If you had to choose from the following list, which do you go with?

1)Bunker Hill

2)Chaska

3)Stoneridge

4)Rush Creek

I'll be out there on Tuesday and the forecasts look good, can't wait to see what Minnesota golf is all about.

White Eagle was my personal favorite until we moved from Woodbury in 2007. I also like Clifton Highlands. Great course for the money. I like Troy Burne as well but the condition of the course sometimes is questionable for the price. Give Bristol Ridge and Kilkarney a look. Speaking of my old home of Woodbury, Give Prestwick a try. I also think that my old home course at Eagle Valley is one of the best muni courses that you can play. Very challenging course as well and a beast to walk.

I love the Ponds at Battle Creek. I live 2 minutes away from there and use their range often. I just wish it had 9 more holes. Usually great conditions and tough from the tips.

Other suggestions have all been great. I keep playing a few new courses each summer so I will soon have played them all.

I see a lot of mixed reviews on The Legends. I played it and I personally have it as one of my faves in MN. I've worked/played at Olympic Hills and The Wilds. They both compare, but OH is private so between Legends and Wilds I don't see a comparison. Legends has fewer houses, better greens crew, better clubhouse and best of all CHEAPER.

I am excited to play Chaska though as all of you have been raving about it. Loggers Trail has been on my list too!

I'm afraid we're still 3.5+ months out from a MN golf day :(
