If you sold your Edel wedges or irons why????

Recommended Posts

So I'm thinking about buying Edel wedges and irons. I like the look of both the wedges and irons and from what I've read they seem like good clubs. Unfortunately I don't have a fitter close by so I'd just be buying based on looks. Obviously there have been others out there who have owned the wedges and irons and sold them here. For those of you who have owned Edel clubs and have moved on to something else could you tell me what it is that didn't work for you? Just looking to get as much info as I can before pulling the trigger (or not).

Thanks in advance.

I am another one of those guys that got a 50* and a 58*. The 58* has remained in the bag while the 50* has been dropped to go back to Vokey. For me I think it was a weight issue. The Edels are extreme

I own an Edel L-Wedge (60*) and an Edel torque balanced E-3 putter. Before then I owned a 52* Edel and a couple of custom putters (original designs). I still have them in my possession, I just don't use them.

The L-Wedge is the best L-Wedge I've ever hit. And I just got the E-3 putter which I've fallen in love with. The thing is amazing and I think it will truly revolutionize putting. Hopefully they have a strong patent on the sucker.

I discarded the 52* wedge for a Vokey simply because I'm looking for more of a full shot wedge. I don't use a 56* S-wedge because I feel I can hit most of my shots with the 60* L-Wedge because it's so darn good. And if now, I can always just slightly open the 52* and that adds some loft to it. In the end, I determined that it was more difficult for me to hit a shot from 110-125 yards than it would be for me to figure out what to hit in place of a 56* around the green.

So I was looking for a club that was a bit of a hybrid between a full swing club and something I could use around the greens in a pinch. The Edel 52 was a bit too 'clunky' for those full swings. Around the green it's a brilliant piece of equipment though. So I went with a Vokey which is more for the full swing shots. With all of that being said, if I wasn't so good with the Edel L-Wedge, I would never feel comfortable bagging a 52* Vokey.

Thanks for the replies. If anyone else has opinions I'd love to hear them.

I was always rubber-necking until Edel - wedges for 2.5 years, irons for 1.5 years, E-1 putter for 3 months.

You can order any loft set of irons you want and the bounce is custom to that loft - that's one principal reason you buy Edel irons.

For the wedges, no full swing issues with 50, 55, 60 - very playable and maneuverable. Love the 55 and 60 around the greens.

I just bought the irons. Had the wedges for a few years. Irons look fine to me. I was told I could have the top line ground thinner or the toe shaped different, etc. I left them as is.

Coming from years of titleist irons and recently Nike VPC.

That's good to know that you can do custom lofts on the irons. How do people feel about the look of the irons from address? I've heard that it take a bit of getting used to. Is this true?

One of my students gave me the 58 and 52 wedge. After finding the right shaft for me the 58 is amazing. The 52 just really didn't make it. The 58 is great on all lies and types of shots. Have done a lot of work with the 5 iron. It is easy to hit but just his it too high for me. Will have the make me a 50 gap wedge from the iron set. The company is great to work with.

Interesting that two people have struggled with the 52 degree. Is it just too big???
Not big at all - seems same size as the other lofts.

Maybe they need a different grind on the 50-52.

No issues.

I personally don't think the wedges feel like anything else I've ever hit. Albeit I haven't hit any of the new wedge releases in the past two years (since I got my Edel's) however nothing before them could compare.

If you are a "scoop" player, all wedges feel the same. If you compress the ball, these are the best feeling wedges around.

I went to Congressional for my fitting, and went from struggling with my Vokey's (TVD M's) around the greens to having no concerns at all.

The Edels are extremely light and even the 58* has been loaded with a lot of lead tape. When I hit the 50* compared with my Vokey 52*, the Edel still flies a little shorter. When hitting full shots, I haven't found them to be great. On touch shots is where they shine. I like the turf interaction with my 52* Vokey better as well. I do have the putter from them as well which I love.

Good to know. Can anyone comment on the feel of the irons?
They are forged, if that makes a difference to you. I have Recoil 95 in my Edel Irons -- you know where you've made your mistakes. Mine is a toe hit and I know when I've hit it there. They are not that demanding .... I mean, I play them! On center hits, you know it ... feels like nothing, like other irons. I get a lot of good feedback from these irons even with graphite.

I should say that I've hit some great full shots with my 50. I would not worry about it -- it's the internet and you have no idea how other guys swing. Same with my opinion.

It's just best to get fit and have confidence in your judgment. In other words, eff the internet golfers, and grow a pair -- it's what I did.
Wow, three people not loving the 50-52 degree wedge. I'm thinking if do get a gap wedge maybe I'd be better off just getting one that matches the set (iron shape) as opposed to a wedge. Has anyone on here done this??? Also, still looking for comments on feel of the irons.
Make that 4. I went with a 52 and 58 set up when I got my Edel's. Both are Nipper Narrow sole grind, the 52 has a KBS Tour S flex to blend better with the irons I had at the time. The 58 has a KBS HI-REV. I love the 58. It is very versatile around the green, and it is the only lob wedge I feel comfortable taking full swings with. I hit it 90 yards with a good full swing, stop and drop spin and nice low trajectory. The 52 is a whole nother story. I can't seem to hit anything other than weak pushes with it, and when I do hit one flush it balloons up. I can only get about 100 yards on a flushed shot with the 52. If I'm getting g 90 out of the 58, I should be getting at least 110 out of the 52, but I can't make that happen. Super frustrating that I have a beautiful $200 wedge that I can't get to work

I think I'm leaning towards having the 50 degree match the iron set if possible. All these stories of peoples 50-52 not working has me nervous. Hopefully I'll be able to get to a fitter to have these answers for myself but that will entail a trip south of the border as there aren't any Edel fitters in my province.

I play the 50-54-58 in the digger/driver grind and I absolutely love them. The 50 is probably my favorite club because it's so versatile. I can hit a full shot with it or hit a lower penetrating shot and the turf interaction is exactly the same. The green side shotswithbthese wedges are fun also. Make sure you get the right grind and you wont be sorry.

This week, the PGA Tour is at TPC San Antonio on the Oaks Course for the Valero Texas Open. GolfWRX was on-site Tuesday to catch a glimpse into the bags of some of the world’s top golfers.

The field of 144 is getting ready to battle starting Thursday for the $7.7 million purse, with $1.386 million going to the winner. The tournament is also the last event where players can qualify for The Masters, just like Canadian Corey Conners did last year.
